I've just realised that on Wednesday 20 years ago I attended my first football game. St Kilda vs Brisbane at Waverley.

Just having a look at the 2014 draft again. We bemoan our luck with Paddy at no 1, but there aren’t many hits there. Petracca is ok....just. Brayshaw has his troubles. Pickett at 4. Gone. De Goey at 5.....yep. Moore F/S at 9. Heeney academy pick at 18. Touk Miller late 20’s. Even in hindsight that isn’t a great draft. Almost more luck than anything. Steele at 24 going about as good as anyone. Lots of busts.

What an incredible day of sport over here! I'm guessing most of you would have been in your beds, but both the Wimbledon final and the Cricket World Cup final went to sudden death!

Djokovic beat Federer in a final set tie break 7-6 1-6 7-6 4-6 13-12 in what was probably the greatest match I've ever seen. Federer had two championships point but ever tenacious Djokovic would not concede. The tie break in the fifth set was just sensational and tense.

In the cricket, the scores were all level after 50 overs - 241. England scored 16 in the sudden death over; New Zealand had 14 after 5 balls; on the final ball they went for two, only to be run out on the second run!

You couldn't get two closer matches in any sport; quite amazing.

Oh yeah, well done England, cricket world champions. I know how you Aussies will be sharing our achievement

Richmond's Higgins hospitalised with brain bleed
Richmond small forward Jack Higgins is in hospital and facing an indefinite period on the sidelines after scans showed he had suffered a brain bleed.

Second-year Tiger Higgins is understood to have suffered headaches following Richmond’s VFL game against Werribee on Sunday.

Scans revealed the 2018 goal of the year winner had bled from his brain. The cause is unknown.

The Tigers are expected to release a statement on Wednesday morning with more details.

My wife gets annoyed if I don’t pay attention to what’s she’s saying when I’m reading bigfooty, which is fair enough.
