The countries who have favoured a more economically open model have had mass second outbreaks. I don't see how anyone would want that. The UK has been getting bigger case numbers in the current outbreak than the first one. They are going have to lock down again and it's going to hurt a lot more than ours which was done earlier and ripped the band aid off quickly. Businesses are going to be properly f’ed if it it keeps on devastating communities.
Based on that then nsw are stuffed. They have been semi normal open for a fair while now. 40k to the footy this week. Racecourse with crowds. Nearly every type of business semi normal open yet have the odd few cases even double figures over the last few months. Why no outbreak?

Colder weather? Europe and the US are getting much bigger numbers with the weather dropping. Quarantine definitely was the start of it but the governments mistake was trusting private enterprise, which is the model conservative governments everywhere push for.
Did the other states do that?

Really sad that people are still arguing about this.

Quarantine was effective but unfortunately the virus is incredibly contagious and even the smallest breakdown in the system can result in an outbreak.

The facts

About 90 per cent of Victoria's current COVID-19 cases can be traced back to a family of four who quarantined at a Melbourne hotel, an inquiry has heard.

Dr Alpren said the Rydges outbreak started with a family of four returning from overseas on May 9 and moved into the hotel on May 15 after displaying coronavirus symptoms.

By May 18, all four had tested positive.

A week later, a hotel staff member and two security guards were diagnosed with COVID-19. It is not clear who was the first of the three to contract the virus.
By mid-June, a total of 17 workers at the hotel and their close contacts had tested positive.

In his witness statement tendered to the inquiry, Dr Alpren said the family was "approved to walk outside their room, during which time they were accompanied by security guards".

Nursing staff also visited their room on May 18 after a contamination issue. But no cases have been identified from either of the events, Dr Alpren said.

"Transmission could have occurred directly from the family to staff or through contamination with virus of surfaces in the hotel with which staff then had contact with," his statement reads.

And don't forget this

Could be at some point. I doubt it's over any time soon. Next winter you would think people will have dropped their guard and international travellers will trickle it in.

Of course it’s never over. I don’t think people think it is. We just can’t continue to wait and what are we waiting for anyway?

Yes some did.
Which states used only security guards and then they recruit them from what’s app? Did they have the numbers we had in quarantine. We’re the rules the same like going for walks in public? If that’s true we were unlucky or they were lucky. Did their premier say that no one should protest about blm initially?

They had the contracts on line. The private companies had full responsibility for training and safety but when they outsourced their responsibility and didn't follow the rules it was the government that ****ed everything up. If you have to hold their hands the whole time they might as well have done it themselves. That's why private enterprise is shit in these situations. They look at what they can earn instead of the best outcome.

To me it's like smashing your car drunk and blaming the government for making you do it. Private enterprise is meant to be nimble and efficient, in reality it tends to be greedy and doesn't follow rules. The same people that complain about government over reach and a nanny state then whine when the government don't have a hand in stopping people from hurting themselves.

Yes no other state had the same issues. You know what its like to me. Its like suggesting victoria was just unlucky and we have worse people than any other state. It sounds like a saints supporter blaming umpires, commentators, the afl, the ground, mother teresa instead of blaming the club.

Ah, still blame gaming.

Who else is looking forward to seeing cars drive on roads today really fast?

Team 18 as it's our brand here, not lucky enough to go up to Bathurst to man a tent myself and give tools to tools, but what can you do.

Stay way from walls fellas.

The “woeful” hotel quarantine program that led to Melbourne’s deadly second wave is not just a Victorian problem – the other states were just fortunate, an Australian member of the World Health Organisation’s COVID-19 response team has claimed.

NSW had the ruby princess which and the cabbie who worked for a week all over sydney.

NSW got very lucky with this.

Some of their internal systems seem to have been more solid than ours but I think a big part of the problem here was that we didn't realise how early it could blow up because NSW had had a pretty easy time of controlling it. A lot more time, staff and money have been spent all over Australia on it since we had it explode on us. Borders have been stricter and even private enterprise has taken the whole thing more seriously.

We should at least have a relatively open summer before we have more to contend with all again and hopefully a vaccine is ready by then. We might get some luck to off set the sacrifice of this ****ing tiresome lockdown.

I'm not a huge motor sport fan but Bathurst is a tradition like the GF. I usually only watch the highlight on the news though these days. Motor sport is definitely better up close too, you don't get the sensory overload on TV.

Passing interest myself since you still need to be fit to be driving around, and since I was in paddock bombs and learning to drive at 8 since farming, hey going really fast and dodging things is great fun when it comes off.

But yeah, I felt V8's were better than F1's simply because you see more of them and it's not as if you're having as much bulk to make those same split decisions.

Ever since we became the brand for team 18 though, well just off the cuff, meeting on Wednesday with them for an hour and casually "well normally we have a few truck, but since Covid I just bought a camper home as why not" and you have adapted portable command post.

I also wouldn't have minded just buying a mobile home just randomly.

Victoria had to update an entire system which is never good during a pandemic,

I dont see a vaccine happening anytime soon though but for Australia elimination should be number 1 priority.
