US media is more liberal centrist than Australia and the UK in general but they have a much more conservative and right leaning politics. Strange thing that.
I feel the US media is more "woke" and more "HR department of a wall street bank" style of liberalism over the more classical style of liberalism that most of the world says is liberal.

Anyway this forum is giving me the shits, takes 10 minutes to load a bloody page. I'll see you guys later on

Let me get this in before I head off - this channel is pro Trump but they give a fair account of events unlike the left.

My overarching view is that the current political systems across the world do not work and we need new systems. But that's a separate discussion to who I think is better for the country. In 2016 all the talk was they were going to war with North Korea. Didn't happen. Then they try and impeach the President and find absolutely nothing. Now they blame racial tension and general division on him. It's hilarious and even funnier people sit in front of their telly and lap it up.

Look at how the media in that country has riled people up to such a point that they are basically in a civil war now. It is disgraceful. My issue is actually the misrepresentation of the facts and the purposeful misreporting of events. It is them who have divided that country. You can talk about silly things Trump has said but it's a weak argument. They talk about racial division caused by Trump - last I checked he wasn't the one who passed a crime bill that incarcerated millions of african americans. What he did do though is pass criminal reform and improve employment across the country for minorities. But nobody talks about that.

Now there's the rally around defunding the police. I just have to laugh. I would agree they need to ban things like chokeholds obviously but a few bad incidents and apparently the entire force needs to pay.

They have hounded and hounded and hounded him for years. They only report on the news that backs their agenda. You don't hear any impartiality. If they just told it how it actually was then the entire country would benefit.

As for the Democrats, they think the American people are stupid. "You aren't black if you don't vote for me" , remember? Constantly pandering for votes by interviewing morons like Cardi B, someone who knows absolutely nothing about politics but has 20 million fans that hang onto her every word so obviously a good way to get a few votes. Biden playing Despacito off his phone and dancing to it in front of a stage at a Hispanic Heritage Month event. It's a disgrace.

But in saying all that, from today's results it looks as though the American people are sick of being treated like that. In the face of unprecedented scrutiny, Trump still wins. For me it's more a win for anti establishment than anything else.

I would say social media is much more what has lead to devision than trad media. Trump is clever in that he courts the conspiracies and fringe beliefs. The Russians also have manipulated racial tension. Trump could have been a statesman and tried to dowse the flames but for popularity he does the opposite.

SM is really dangerous because you only see a tailored view point which matches your own and you have no counter argument. It's leading to two tribes mentality.

The financial system is broken but Trump is just another pirate thieving from the public purse. He's no saviour, he's just another politician telling everyone that he isn't one while supporting the billionaire economy and cutting all social safety nets for the poor. I'm surprised you follow Labor in Australia but Trump there, he's like the antithesis to a left wing social democratic centrist party.

The media have made Trump like they made Hanson here, they tried to smugly laugh him off while paying him ridiculous amounts of attention, Then the people voted for what they watched for 12 hours a day.

More in comparison to ours. They have a tradition of journalism that is a little bit left of right. Here we are slightly right like the UK. The left in the US hasn't worked out that we are in a culture war where there is hard views. They are still trying to put up Tony Blair style centrist dullards when the people want someone with a strong political view. They should have put up Bernie, when they put up an African American they won. they went back to the centrist beige and lost.

The US looks set on burning itself to the ground at the moment. I can't see how they come out of this in any functional way now. Corporate US will roll on doing their thing while the country falls into infighting.

What's up with trump threatening to go to the supreme court to block the uncounted votes... just lip service or an indication he's concerned about how the change the outcome?
Concerning that it seems like he's primed his more extreme followers that any loss is guaranteed to be due to a rigged election, and then the riots start.

A lot of people have been predicting that exact out come.

Yeah I've seen a bit about that, I'm just wondering whether this position from Trump to discredit any possible loss is essentially encouraging this behaviour. He seems to know how to rally the fanatics. Also have to think whether it's damage control because he's nervous?

Sorry to burst the bubble of the gloating Trump supporters on here but Biden could easily still win. Hence Donald’s hissy fit of a speech tonight.

Boringly, it could be as late as Friday before they call it.

Wisconsin's Blue!

Hold onto your MAGA hats.
Hmmmm. Going exactly as I thought.

Red Mirage, Repubs voted in person heavily skewed dem mail ins, Trump declare victory and make mail ins invalid.
Cities boarded up, National Guard on standy by.
America greatest country in the world.

FMD.

He is leading in all the important states and by considerable margins too, especially in Pennsylvania. If he wins two of the four big states left, he will win the election. PA looks a given now and so does Georgia. So I think he is in a pretty comfortable position.

That's why I'm trying to work it out, why does it sound like damage control so much when he should be comfortable? It was a baffling statement on its own but the motive eludes me.

Haha

PA will come in very closely (postal votes lean heavily democratic). And some sites have GA going blue. It's going to be tight.

If Nevada and WI stay/go blue then Biden only needs one of MI, PA, GA.

The biggest issue with modern politics is the moment you reveal which side of the fence you picked the other side hurls abuse at you instead of trying to figure out why you voted a certain way. It's the whole "I'm right and you're wrong" attitude. We overall have become intolerant of people with a differing view.
It achieves **** all. People just keep thier opinions to themselves and really only reveal them at the ballot box at fear of being orchestrated.

A logical thing to do is to actually figure out why people voted for Trump and on the flip side why people voted Biden.
There's a clear split between city and rural and it's the same trend we've seen here and elsewhere. The priorities are different.
For someone in a rust belt state it might be 1: Jobs, 2: Climate Change. Where as someone in California it might be 1: Climate Change 2: Jobs.

It's not like both can't be done at the same time.

Evidently it's much easier to manipulate people when everything is Us vs Them with no compromises

Just have a look at the newspaper to get a good hint (actually don't look at it preferably).

Country people don't want to pour lattes or maintain wind generators. There is a push to preserve traditional industries in the bush even if it's not profitable.

Part of that is a fear of the unknown and self interest. Things like coal mines and whatnot have been the lifebood of towns as they've provided stable employment over the journey. Times of course change. It's not like they don't have a genuine concern. That's where good leadership needs to come in, you need to make an effort explain the issue and have a solution.
Far too often these days instead of making an effort the politicians go "Couldn't give a **** about you" and it leaves people feeling abandoned.

So I’ve been missing for awhile . I really needed a break just to recharge my batteries. I was starting to take everything as a personal attack which wasn’t good . Sometimes things build up and you need to take a step backwards and take a good look at yourself . My mental health wasn’t the best and everything was getting to me . Thankfully Rabbit58 helped me get back to liking footy again and of course making the finals helped .

Im much more relaxed again and glad to be back on this site . As Saints fans we have a lot to look forward to over the next few years especially and I want to be part of this site again .
Thanks for your understanding.[emoji106][emoji837][emoji836]️[emoji835]️🟥[emoji833]️[emoji834]️

Proabably paranoid but after an attempt at impeachment and hounding smear campaigns I can't say I wouldn't feel like he did haha. As it stands now would much rather be in Trump's position than Biden's. Not sure this thing gets done tomorrow either. Has to be the most important election in my lifetime for sure.
