America’s Next Authoritarian Will Be Much More Competent
Trump was ineffective and easily beaten. A future strongman won’t be.

Terrific post!!!!!The problem with the disenfranchised middle class is that they don't understand the historical context of their nations rise to becoming an economic superpower.
Their manufacturing industry rose to all new heights during WW2 when America spent 3 years deciding it was more profitable to supply the Allies than it is to join the fray. This industrial dominance continued in the wake of Europe's destruction and lasted near 50 years while Europe rebuilt and the manufacturing Asian nations rose to prominence.
The disenfranchised working class have lost their manufacturing jobs, climate change is forcing the increased demand for renewable energies at the expense of traditional mined resources which has seen massive job losses in mining, manufacturing and engineering.
The reason why the Republicans see greater support from the disenfranchised working class is part intertia, but more importantly it is because the Republicans have turned a highly complex, nuanced issue and shoehorned it into a simple enemy... "It was the coastal elites who sold you out".
These people need to realise that the world has moved on. The road coach industry is dead, the railway industry is nothing compared to what it used to be, the gaslight industry is dead, the milk man is gone. This is progress, these things happen.
The Republicans are selling a lie that they can bring back the mid 20th century and it continues to get swallowed up. The democrats need to a vision, they need to sell a future that these people will take up.

I think he's probably right, Trump is going to throw a few grenades on his way out as well. I still think Biden will have a mountain of work just to try to regain control. Jobs are going and unrest will continue to build.
Thats only if they can get the mental prick out of the white houseDon't care now. I can ignore the US for at least four years, no orange idiot lying in my lounge room every time I turn on my TV.

Trumps strategy in this election has not been to win outright. He is exactly where he and his team expected to be and he will run his game plan out.
1. Cast doubt on the legality of mail in ballots prior to the election.
2. Encourage Republican voters to vote in Person.
3. Ensure that marginal states show an early Republican lead that gets eroded by mail in ballot counting.
4. Call for recounts where he can, then mount a legal challenge to prevent some ballots from being counted.
5. Refuse to concede the presidency and create a disputed result in key marginal states. He is going to focus on Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada.
6. Ensure the dispute lasts beyond the safe harbour deadline (December 8th?) thus creating the constitutional crisis he needs.
7. Throw to Congress to determine the presidency with the backing of a stacked Supreme Court.
The real question is whether his GOP facilitators and the Murdoch media machine will stand by him through this process. We know his gun toting, right wing, evangelical, QAnon, deplorable base will be highly energised nationwide if he can create a disputed result in key states.
Biden/Harris claiming the victory without a concession is very unusual and speaks to the democrats intention to stop following convention, and get ahead of the Trump plan by removing doubt around who won the original vote counts.

In your opinion Biden will hold China to account more than Trump? That’d be a pleasant surpriseA stable US is good for Australia. China has us by the balls and Trump couldn't give a sh*t about anyone but himself. It's actually more relevant to us than just TV viewing. There is a sense of relief as far as I'm concerned.

It's been an entertaining week in politics.
Trump was an awful President, it's great he's gone, but unfortunately he has caused massive division within his country and it will take decades to resolve.
Whether Biden can bring people together remains to be seen I guess, but it's better than the other option.
Who thought we'd actually see the day where the leader of the free world would refuse to accept the people's vote though? It's going to be a crazy few months over there.

“We” is not who is in question hereI don't see how "holding China to account" is really possible. We have no economy without them buying our resources, and people love buying cheap plastic Chinese crap. We gave them all the power in the relationship, now we just have to live with that.
Frank UnderwoodWhich one would you rather?
Frank Underwood
Theyre complicit. Theyve shown their hand. How Trump acts in this time (as well as previous times where he committed to policies that did not happen eg Health Care Policy) straight after the election and those who support him now can be judged.
