This is an article that resonates with me ... Biden will win but where to from here for America.
Counterpoint:

Only three US presidents have lost re-election since the 1930's.

The popular vote margin will be a lot bigger in 2020 than 2016 (obviously democrats winning both).

Biden will likely receive around 7 million more votes than Trump. Projected to be in the 5-6% range.

Democrats have won the popular vote in 7 of the past 8 elections.

They have even won with a 77 year old grandpa that Republicans claim has dementia and can't string together coherent sentences.

Obviously, the democrats have a lot to work out, but it isn't that bad. With every Iowa (white working class state gone republican) there is a Georgia. Indeed, it seems only a matter of time until Texas turns blue. The map is changing, but to suggest they will struggle winning elections moving forward is a bit simplistic.

Indeed, another point of view would be that it is really an urban vs rural divide. Cities and urban voters are only increasing. Unless Republicans start reflecting urban voters values, 2016 might just be the last election they win for a very long time.

Well, here’s where the luck is needed.
Dems have lost the senate, have failed to secure one state chamber, and lost several house seats.
When they re-district next year, things will become even more tough for Dems.
They have been destroyed across the nation.
Muppet progressives like the imbecile AOC have cost their party massively.
I could care less about Trump!
Funny that you think re-districting and gerrymandering a country so that you are able to win even while not winning a majority of votes is a good argument for that party.

So the Trump team accidentally booked the wrong four seasons. Instead of booking the hotel they booked the Four Seasons Landscaping company as the background for their press conference. You can't make it up. Anyway, this tweet sums up the situation perfectly:

Arkansas is changing very quickly.

First Virginia, then Georgia. NC in play, Texas in play, and Arkansas believe it or not.

At least he's managing his exit like he managed his presidency. That's one Apprentice that will be getting the arse.

Maybe, but there is only so long that you can go on winning with a minority of voters. Eventually it will catch up with them.
I agree. Will be interesting to see where it goes from here. If I had to wager, I’d say this result is more an outcome of the “Orange Bad Man” narrative pushed by most everyone.
A republican leader with similar policies and less of the brash personality would see a landslide victory in my opinion.

The electoral college will make sure that never happens regularly and I can't see it changing.

I don't know, his outsider narrative is what appeals. Everyone hates politicians and their formality and lack of action, they need to find a strong man with the same political disregard and fringe beliefs. It's going to be easier for the next guy but they might need to find an exisiting player perhaps like Tucker Carlson or Ben Shapiro.

You also need the ability to bring a constant news cycle to everything you do with out looking like you are copying everything he did. It will be hard for the next guy when I think about it.

Maybe. It may also be that this orange bad man is the most charismatic leader in US politics and someone with similar policies and less of the brash personality is not going to turn out nearly as many people.

You've got a lot of people supporting the democrat moving away from the big cities to avoid the higher cost of living.
There's a lot vacating CA and heading to AZ and TX

I think the farming states nearer the west coast will change first, especially with legalized cannabis which boomed for Colorado.

Perspective - my son's (who is 12) best friend died a month ago....it was his mate's birthday today.

We spent the afternoon at his grave with a lot of his friends followed by a catch up for his friends sharing pizza and playing a game of footy at a local park, celebrating his birthday. The boys were boys enjoy playing footy wishing their mate was there.

Be kind to each, remember what is important, enjoy each day.
Hope everything is okay mate.

Read your post the other day and then took a bit of time away from this thread but also just here in general. Feel like I can contribute positively now. Work in progress for me but I need to continue to be better at stopping myself getting caught up in the back and forth when it comes to very polarising topics because (and this is just me) I take it personally when I know I shouldn't. At least that's how I tend to read it.

Just gets too frustrating. Two complete opposite sides of a spectrum arguing with each other over points that the other won't concede. It is pointless in a way.

Something that will never change my view on the current political climate in America is how much we talk about it in here, so for me personally there's no point for me to continue discussing it. I already get enough of this rhetoric in the papers and on TV every day.

My final comment re: politics - I will not respond or take issue with anyones opinion regarding it, and will be the last I will say - Want to close the book on this and feel like I need to clarify my position as to not give off the wrong impression to others that may have thought differently;

First and foremost I am a swing voter, I look at both policies and then decide on who I agree with most. That is regardless of election, regardless of party and regardless of country. I think IMO that is the most logical way to form a view. This election specifically for me was more anti-Biden than pro-Trump. We as a society are inundated with left wing media coverage so for me I look at centrist and sometimes right wing news to get a better balance and perspective.

Regardless of candidate though what I am more worried about however is mainstream media and how they control the narrative. In 2016 they said Russia was involved in the rigging of the election, but now in 2020 fraud never happens. This is not to say I agree with the statement but this is just a small example of how at the end of the day the candidate the media wants in, gets in. And it happens almost every time. I cannot remember the last time a candidate won an election despite disapproval from mainstream media. Please tell me if I am mistaken.

MM's divide and conquer strategy has been their MO for the past four years to what I can only see as trying to remove one person from office and put a new one in. Maybe it actually goes deeper than that, I guess we will now find out. One of the biggest issues in America right now is racial division. Ask yourselves - does the mainstream help or hinder the efforts to quell racial tension in America? Do they report on all serious crimes, or are they selective? For me - Firstly, they will be selective in their delivery of the news. They will report 95% of the time on white on black crime. They will continue to push this narrative and then when something like George Floyd happens - a disgraceful murder that has no place in any society - the foundations for the public to erupt have already been built. They have been slowly drip-fed a misrepresentation of what is happening in their communities and because they control the narrative they have power over the viewer. They don't mention that more white Americans are killed by police officers per year, and they don't mention the black on black or black on white crime. And if they do, it pales in comparison to the coverage that helps push their narrative.

Lastly, please don't perceive me as one of those pro-Trump lunatics on social media. At the end of the day we will be fine if Biden ends up in office, and honestly as long as there's no wars erupting I'm cool with that. My issue with the current way of things is bigger than Biden v Trump. Power structures beyond them need to be broken down and we need to find new ways to function as a society. Regardless of what you think of Trump I think he has challenged many of these structures, and if proven to be true regarding this fraud fiasco, it will open up pandora's box on the inner workings of a system that needed to be changed a long time ago. We are in a new time, and we need new practices, new structures, and new framework under which we live.

Again hope you are okay V and if anyone wants to respond to anything political I've said here please just PM me because I won't be responding in this thread on this topic any further.

Well said George.

Apologies if anything i said was too strong. Personally I love the banter but can see why others might not.

I personally have a lot more faith in traditional media compared with the conspiracy theories promulgating Facebook/Twitter/YouTube but that's just me.

At least we can all unite behind the saints and hopefully can be glad we live in Australia. There are far more important things in life than what is happening in US politics!

I'll just leave this here from president George Bush which is a good summation. And before anyone starts bringing up Bush vs Gore - I'm sorry, if you can't see the differences yourself then I don't think I can help you.

Highly recommend it.

Who would have thought that holding a huge bike rally at Sturgis with a huge crowd not wearing masks during a pandemic would turn the whole thing into a super spreader in South Dakota , or is it North Dakota lol? All those thousands and thousands of bikers ad fun for the week or two , then went home to their states taking the virus with them . [emoji849]

Morning George thanks for the post, I was wondering if you had taken off to play some golf with Trump.

Your post is out of the kiss kick kiss communication playbook, well written.

I took my young bloke out for lunch yesterday for a parma where he shared with my wife and I that he had a girlfriend (after some prompting from my wife), I can not recall having a girlfriend at 12 and I am happy for him after a s..t month or 2but will warn him of the dramas ahead. Also found out that said 'girlfriend' is a Geelong supporter so I started recalling the invitation that I issued for her to come around for a meal.

You and I disagree on some stuff and that is fine, ie I do not believe mainstream media is 'left leaning'. Racial tension already exists in the States as it does here. The George Floyd murder occurred in a community I lived in and they are aware of the embedded systemic racism. Here I would listen to Stan Grant or Adam Goodes to hear about systemic racism, not the mainstream media including the Herald Sun and Eddie. Being NAIDOC week it is a good time to discuss this. Stan Grant Racism Debate

As I said in the post you quoted the last couple of months has given me perspective about what is important, we should be able to discuss and share information while supporting each other.

cheers
