I think Trump was created by the mainstream and if it wasn't for their obsession with him he'd still be a novelty former TV star. They made him famous but they take as well as give.
Trump was created by the abject failures of the two corporatist, donor obsessed parties that have disenfranchised the worker and the millions of poor

No you're right - but it does prove how easy it is to mislead people by "omission".

Sorry - but half a fact is not good enough in my books.
Maybe you need to read it again.

I didn't say he had the most votes from minorities.

I said he had the most votes from minorities for a republican candidate.

No half facts in there at all.

Not sure if this is the thread for it, but huge news for the club tomorrow regarding state and federal funding for a massive project which will genuinely make a huge difference to our presence in the south. The good times keep on rolling!
Hey!!
Thia is the American politics thread where we argue over two candidates that prob belong to the same lodge

Away with your excellent dribble of information

Regardless of the reality ...when you speak like that it sounds sexy and makes you sound super intelligent. :thumbsu:

We are building a fortress down there aren't we.

Club hasn't been this well run in any moment of my lifetime.

Jonnyray sooking that he has a perma ban on this thread.
How bad a troll must you be for George to give you a perma on this bloody thread

LMAO [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Noice George.

We should post all our ITK stuff on here
It was ages ago, I think it was during the Vic bushfires. It wasn't me either haha

Don't need to - in response to Gringo talking specifically about Afro Americans - you said that they voted for Trump in "historic numbers".

So I pointed out you omitted to mention that African Americans voted for Biden in even larger historic numbers.

Misleading by omission. Half a fact!!

Calling out racism and labelling people racists are two different things. For me calling out racism is an event and is absolutely fine, I am with you there. Call it out. For me a racist is someone who has similar repeated behaviours. I think there can be people who say or do something racist (once) but aren't actually racist - they may just be ignorant. This is completely off topic but look at Goodes' comments regarding that child. I wouldn't say she's a racist but her actions were racist. Not sure if I explained that well enough LOL but hope it makes sense. Understandably that was a child and in this case they are adults - but it brings me back to my original point - we are speculating on their intentions.

If we have the ability to understand people make mistakes and can learn from it then why paint them with a brush like that. If they do it once unknowingly, learn from it and don't do it again then I think that is very different to someone who repeats their behaviours over a longer period of time / doesn't learn that their actions were offensive.

It seems people are happy to label someone racist based on speculation and no prior history - that is fine. I am not prepared to do that.

Goodes called out racism, 'the child' is not the victim for making a racist comment and being called out. Yep her comments were racist and Goodes was the one who was harangued for calling it out. Goodes reached out to her even though he was the one the comment was directed at.

Yep lack of nuance there I agree with that. I am sure Goodes has copped more racist comments than the people making them ever will. Goodes should not be painted as the villain. And then called a gorilla by a President of another club.

Lol, that wasn't the argument I was making. I was giving evidence to show how popular he was compared to other republican candidates in the last 60 years, as minorities usually vote Democrat. Biden is not a Republican so why would I mention him. I was making a point of comparing Trump to the prior candidates from his own party, had nothing to do with Biden. I specifically said amongst republicans in the last 60 years.

I know I agree with all of that I am saying she made a racist comment but you could argue she isn't a racist person. There's a difference I think when you include ignorance.

Eh, I guess I can agree with that.

I just look at how news is reported and it becomes obvious there's an agenda there. They never report the full story, only the story that pushes their anti-Trump narrative.

And I know the right has a pro-Trump agenda generally speaking - so this is why I read both sides.

Or is he addicted to the fame of the news cycle so he acts in more and more erratic ways to keep himself front and centre. Trump is like if Warwick Capper decided to become an autocratic despot.

Had enough of the US elections - actual random discussion time.

Anybody else reading travel books to make up for the lack of travel. I've been revisiting some old trips through Asia.

Just finished "River Dog" by Mark Shand which follows his trip down the Brahmaputra River from Tibet to the Bay of Bengal.

Now reading Rory Stewarts' "The Places In Between" which is about his solo walking trip across Afghanistan.

Thanks for the mental image of Capper in office in nothing but leopard print underwear.

Definitely but like Hanson, the media were happy to report him as a clownish fool who no reasonable person would ever vote for. Their smug disapproval had the opposite effect.

Even better seeing Kennett say it was because he bagged Dan Andrews that the Hawks didn't get money to gild their tip site...only for Dan Andrews to act like he was an irrelevant cockroach.

No but it's a good idea. I was really keen to get to Armenia but those crazy ****ers couldn't make do with a pandemic and started a war.

Yep but Goodes should not be harangued for calling out a racist comment - he should be commended. The person making the racist comment is not the victim.

Look at how the media report things in America. Trump is a polarizing figure but the mainstream are the experts at dividing people. If you don't think they are just a propaganda machine for the Democrats then I don't know how else I can convince you.
I think everybody needs to understand that irregardless of where you stand it looks like the propaganda machine is working for the other side. Some hate on the CNN and others hate on Fox. Some hate the Huffington post and others hate Breitbart, and so on ad infinitum. There are very few media outlets that don't lean more one way than the other and the torturous task of sifting through the manure to find inspiring opinion has been left up to us. It's why I like forums like this because hopefully others are helping with the sifting and we can digest all manner of subjects, toss them up and lay out our opinions and maybe walk away with an adjusted perspective.

Let me premise the rest of this post by saying that this is only my opinion. You needn't make it a reality.

I believe Trump is a disingenuous politician. He has no vision, and no holistic agenda for America. He has campaigned on a host of single issues (gun rights, China, the economy, abortion, immigration, policing, religion, marxist-lennist socialism, antifacism, anti-vaccine, global warming) that appeal to a cross section of vastly different voters and united them to fight against a fictional opposition (the lying violent radical socialist left).

Trump does have an enormous grotesque appeal to the media. Probably the largest on the planet. And he has been able to use that to deliver his message to the single issue voters in America. Vote for me or lose your guns. Vote for me or watch crime escalate. Vote for me or watch the stock market crash. Vote for me or watch the suburbs get run over by gangs. Vote for me or watch the Mexicans take your jobs. Vote for me or watch Muslims inject terror into our lives. Vote for me or watch the number of babies dying in abortion clinics sky rocket. Vote for me or watch the Democrats turn America into Cuba. Vote for me or lose the right to celebrate Christmas.

And he has used this popularity at the poll to connect corporate lobbyists directly with government. Corporations no longer have to lobby politicians. Trump virtually seated them in policy making positions. He has used his time in the whitehouse to gorge on government funding. And while he has delivered on many of his intolerant promises he certainly hasn't made America great, nor has he done much for the quality of life of the ordinary working class American.

Infrastructure, health, education, fair work, climate action have all fallen by the wayside. Why? Because money. Lots and lots of money. And that is starting to creep into Australian politics.

Thoughts on Biden?
