Speaking of empty buildings - anybody prepared to bet that Crown doesn't get its licence for Barangaroo Casino.

Odds should be about even money but its probably 1000 to 1.

I hate Crown, but big surprise casino operators are crooked....who would have thought.

One of my mates does security for Google, it literally is just plugging holes all the time but you can usually easily find when and where it was hacked and usually with some certainty about the probably origin of that attack. I imagine they would have the best teams working to find any possible hack attempts and uncovering them. The US government hopefully has some serious security provided by their IT companies. They still get the world's best working there.

Yeah, but Google’s infosec is way better than Australian banks, or US banks for that matter. And these election software companies are way worse.

I was watching the global weather forecast this morning and noticed it's getting hot in Oz once again. I think Alice Springs was at 35. A lovely, balmy 7 degrees here; my kind of weather.

i think 35 is on the lower side for Alice too. Was 34 in Melbourne yesterday...

*applies half a litre of sunscreen*

Was first printed in 1966 and after a small initial run (1000 copies I believe) it was stopped and the printing plates were broken. It was subsequently brought back into print with a number of the more explosive revelations removed. Fortunately the original manuscript was found and the full version republished.

Essentially it is a history book - Goes from Industrial Revolution through to the Vietnam War but also introduces "the network" and their activities.

PDF version is available free online

It was 32c in the early hours of the morning last week.

The predictions for summer have been contradictory here. In what’s meant to be a La Niña it’s a worry we’ve had 8.8 ml so far here in a month that averages 60ml.

It's easier being locked in in winter here that's for sure. Luckily for you that's 365 days a year in the UK. Alice is always hot. It was nearly that hot in Melbourne yesterday and back down to 22 or something today.

Far too like the British weather in Melbourne. I could survive your climate, but WA and NT would kill me.

You'd probably prefer Tassie. It's like an upmarket version of UK weather, the cold isn't quite as cold and the hot days are swimming weather. It's weird, Sydney is a very nice climate, it reads different than it feels, they can have a 20s degrees day and you can get around in a T-Shirt, Melbourne has more chill in the air so it's usually unpleasant at 20. The hot days in Sydney don't seem as painful because the days are pretty even too. Melbourne is like a rollercoaster climate. You just get used to scorching and it gets cold again.

Two sides of the same coin. Both neoliberal and imperialist. The Democrats are slightly better, but it's a case of the lesser of two evils.
Watch today's K rystal and Saagar. His radar is return of the swamp.
Listen to whom Biden is putting on in the Kellyanne Conway role [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849].

Trump didn't drain the swamp, just introduced a new species, but the old ones are back with a vengance.
Pelosi loses 26 out of 26 tossups in the house and she is speaker, fawned over by the next appointed aire.

We have had days of 47 deg with a hot northerly in Melbourne. Routinely 38 to 42 in summer.
Brits freeze in Melbourne, our houses are set up to air and dont seal properly.

Going to the North of Australia in May which is dry season. Travelling from Darwin overland (Gibb River Rd) to Broome.

Depths of winter, 28 to 32 most days

I'm very much out of the mainstream when it comes to American politics, being a Eugene Debs, Henry Wallace, FDR, George McGovern guy. That strand of American radicalism is gone, condemned as communist etc. Forty years of Reaganomics has killed America, and it's a virus which has infected us all.

And they have been trying to export that model around the world ever since as well. You'd like Yannis Varoufakis, he's a pretty good voice in trying to push back against that model of business and the wealthy paying no tax and the citizens facing austerity measures model in the EU. He can sound a bit socialist at times for me but I don't think a shove to the left would hurt too much. If you aim slightly left you get Biden, a buttered white bread sandwich politician that is trying to look like he appeals to everyone while appealing to no one. I guess you guys got Corbyn and it didn't work so maybe we do want bland centrists.

I'm very much in tune with Varoufakis: he knows his (proper) Marx brilliantly. Syriza was a fantastic cause, though it was ultimately crushed by international capital. I'm an ardent democratic socialist, in keeping with the tradition of this part of industrial England. I'm a member of the Green Party here, which wants to replace market capitalism with full democratic control of politics and economics. Those who hold the levers of power demonise this as crazy etc, but of course they would. My idea of leftism is the mass movement democracy of James Connolly, Martin Luther King and Rosa Luxembourg, whereby mass movements can achieve progress, and force is an absolute last resort against brutality.

America is weird most of the conservative christian politicians want 1950s values but somehow forget that in the 50's America had some very high taxes and strong infrastructure being built.

Eisenhauer would be a "far left commie" with his policies on Taxes, Education, Infastrucutre and general health and well being.

Very much so. In the 1950s fringe groups such as the John Birch Society and other far right groups during the 'Red Scare' accused Eisenhower of being a Moscow agent! Today the Republican party has moved so far to the right that Eisenhower couldn't possibly run for office in that party. But the centre of gravity has shifted far to the right in all countries - just look at the Labor Party in Australia. Anyone who challenges neoliberalism, let alone capitalism, is denounced as extreme and dangerous.

Well good, now they can just stop offering to remember my passwords for me all the time.
Seriously -- keeping my passwords for everything in the cloud, what could possibly go wrong.
