Just out of interest CHBench are you actually Victorian? Because if so you seem to be one of the few who speak sense about Victorian cricketers :p

Judging by the perseverance Punter showed with Krejza, compared with his reluctance to bowl White I reckon he wanted Krejza in from the first test but was overruled by the selection committee

Sure am a Vic. I don't know that much about Cricket but I can tell who's a crap cricketer and who isn't and Victoria seem to have an overload of crap cricketers. Warney is the only player keeping Victoria's 'international credibility' a float.

I think Punter has given White the arse. Clearly showing his stance on who he would rather keep in the team. Only 10 overs from White yesterday. Hopefully Merv and Co can realize the unbelievable lack of worth he brings to the team and sends him back to the Junction oval for a long long time.

White is useless. Selected before Krejza because he's handy with the bat. Has done nothing to prove his worth. Besides get Tendulkar out a few times.
Was good to see Ponting have faith in Krejza when he was getting belted to all ends of the ground. Even the commentators were having a go at Ponting for keeping him in.

Memo to Merv and co. stay away from the Vics. With exception of Dave Hussey. Please.

Hodge = Fail
Mick Lewis = Epic Fail
Cam White = Miserable Fail
Chris Rogers = Meh

Katich has been good. Actually attacking for once.

BTW Richmond do have a general discussion board. It's private, only Richmond supporters can see it.

Hodge was decent, just he's not a #3 in the Aussie side, Lewis was freakin hilarious though "yeah we're gonna spank the Kiwis WOOO!" Lewis comes on and we flunk, thank god you retired! Also dunno why you're including Rogers, I mean the guy only swapped to Vic this year from WA so his average would be WA average, no Victorian cricketer claims his past although we will claim Klingers even if we moved him onto SA. :p

Siddle has been decent, although he'd probably take the Watson spot without the batting power so overall useless for the team he was part of, White, is a poor mans Roy honestly don't know why he was included since I figured they'd use Pup for that role anyway and play a frontline spinner. (probably went off it with McGains injury)

D Hussey, honestly can't see him in a test team, 1 day and Twenty/20 yeah but can't see a place to slot him in at in the test team which is the problem with Vic cricket, the shorter form of the game they do well enoguh in for individual talent (Nannes is rather similar to Tait in slinging but a left hander and quite useful, Wade is an up & coming wk might be a future replacement for Haddin if he has a lull somewhere) just none of them are relaly game breakers in the longer form outside of McGain (who's like 90!)

Add Bryce McGain with Dave Hussey's name please. Mind you, Jon Holland has shown some promise in the shield games.

What do we think about SR Watson? Has he done enough to hold a place in the team for the home test series?

At this stage it has to be White out and Stuart Clark in, but I'd still take Symonds over Watson.

Thoughts?

Symonds is possibly my favourite Australian cricketer, like him better than Watson, but his domestic form has honestly been disgraceful. On form you'd even take Hopes ahead of him, he just does not look interested and can't buy a run in the shield. Watson's spots safe for now I reckon

Don't mind Watson, he's one of the batsmen that could bat anywhere and is a decent enough bowler when used sparingly, also was never a fan of Roy int he test arena as really Pup's the all rounder you'd probably want since you can then have a designated batsmen, generally Roy onyl saves himself with the fielding efforts and when he does get going (a bit like Hodge and that double hundred, when he gets going he can play otherwise all he has is fielding efforts and starts) would almost be tempted to try Marsh in a mid order position over Roy.

His dismissal today was a joke. Always struggles to stand up when the pressure is on for mine, much like Damien Martyn did earlier in his career.

I can get why they keep persevering with Watson, but I'd probably have Symonds, Noffke (who I think deserves a shot) and Hopes ahead of him

Meh, unless we bowl India out for under 250 tomorrow, which judging by the series so far we definitely can't, it's not like we can win from here anyway. Should really have won the first test which would have meant we retained the trophy.

This has got to be one of the most boring days of cricket i've ever seen. What've we made, 100 runs?? India's tactics didn't help that. No one wants to watch that, even cricket mad indians don't turn up to watch that crap. There's only 13 there.
Back to the soccer for me.

True, he has plenty of soft dismissals, but he's still far along to be in there for some manner of stability as soon as he gets his head around how the pitch is playing, can't really judge him that much when Pup & Ponting have had just as much soft dismissals this series.

I said elsewhere on a different forum that after India won the last test the series was dead since they'd play for a draw and kill it, so their actions today in packing the off side and bowling wide on off didn't surprise me that much, what surprised me was that the Aussie batsmen were still taking leg and as if India are going to bowl like a hundred wides in succession. Seriously, they packed the field and outside off, take off stump and reverse sweep it since Kahn would be outswinging anyway with the random inswinger, taking leg you're just asking for the game to be killed.

Persevering Saint , you sound like almost the same type of batsman I was, although granted there was 1 game I scored 44 my average would have been about 7 with the bat. :p Loved frontline /1st drop pace though with little punks trying to front foot bouncers on the first ball of the day, I mean during training even us bowlers got drilled in "get your goddamn eye in for the love of god we don't want you all screwing up what our batters do, just rotate the strike" for the openers to be all "lol wave tha bat around" actually got a few hit wicket dismissals that way through people freaking out.

Then took up indoor for a season and that's all about the swing bowling and my batting average greatly improved to like 20 odd (since it was like 9 years outdoor, 2 years break 1 year indoor, 1 year AFL, arthritis damn you sport!)

Anyway, waiting for the 1 day series with India since the last test since you can't really kill a 1 dayer or twenty/20.

My addition to this conversation...I once scored a duck from about 17 overs. From then on I realised cricket wasn't my forte!

EDIT: But at least I lasted for 17 overs!

Simmo in for White .

3 pacers in Watson, Johnson and Lee.

Krejza, Symonds, Kat and Pup to bowl spin.

Thats if we are playing on a spinners deck.

Swap Watson for Clark/Siddle if it is a quick deck.

Looks like we need a cricket thread here.

Not looking great at the moment. Can't see us winning this test from here unless India collapse today, which is unlikely given our current bowling attack.

Think we just need to get a few more West Aussies in the team like Marsh, Pomersbach, Ronchi, Heal and Magoffin. Problem sorted :thumbsu:

Clark isn't out and out pace though, if anything he actually works better on an uneven track because his consistency brings out varying results, whereas if the pitch is basically dead and just quick he'll come on nicely, would probably bring in Bracken or Tait/Nannes on a quick deck to either mix up the pace of the track or exploit it with slingers who skid on off the deck as opposed to hitting the deck hard. No idea why either weren't considered on a dusty track considering how well swing bowlers consistently do on it as evidenced by Kahn this series, Aussies are lacking anyone who can swing the ball consistently despite having the talent.

Any passion for a Punters Club thread?

I assume you mean a Horse Racing/Punting Club thread rather than a Ricky Ponting Club thread? If it's horse racing I only really bet on the Melbourne Cup so I probably wouldn't have much use for it.

Still not looking good in the cricket, we can't buy a wicket at the moment. Might be time to send an SOS to Warnie.
