Thoughts are with you and your mate's family mate. Its a really tough time as you all try to make sense of it.

For something we don't like talking about it effects far too many of us far too often. Maybe it's time we do start talking about it.

Thanks for the kind words and thoughts for my friends, and sorry to bring the mood down, I just thought it doesn't hurt to bring this type of tragedy to the fore so that we do remain vigilant and watch out a bit for those around us.

I did Movember this year. Its not just for prostate cancer research anymore. They also raise money to help mens mental health and suicide prevention.
More blokes should do it. You get to look a bit silly with a big porno moustache for a month and raise money for a good cause.

My god, so sorry mate. It's the ultimate nightmare for a parent. I hope everyone involved is eventually able to lead a normal life again. My deepest condolences.

Agreed mate, youth suicide is a major issue in this country, we just need some people to recognise it and start to work on prevention.

Please excuse me for an insensitive question, and this is open to anyone to answer, but when we talk about 'suicide prevention', what do we imagine, in terms of government and/or community initiative? I realise not everyone can be saved, but I'm interested to know different people's ideas on what can be done that isn't currently.

Not sure what would be the answer, but a start would be having a focus on students' mental wellbeing in education. Explicitly developing students' resilience and providing them with a repertoire of coping strategies that they can use into the future when times get tough.

A good start is for society to re-evaluate it's priorities. tackle the cause.
