My sister put her new Samsung (on release) through the ashing machine, all we did was dry it out at the heater, go to a telstra shop and claim warranty.

New Phone!:D

Do the dodgy, you know you want to.

Finally living up to your name L2M4G, Will keep that in mind next time. ;)
Was bound to happen one day, ive dropped it so many times already was always going to land in water sooner or later. Now the challenge is to not let the family realise i don't have a phone. Certain fail.

That was the first thing that came to my mind.
But the nerds at Apple put this "water sensor pad" in 4 different places inside and outside the phone, barely seeable. Anyway, when these little sensors turn pink, means it has come in contact with water, and voids the warranty. (And of course i paid the extra for extended warranty too ) So if you're phone is stuffed and these "sensors" are pink, they won't do anything for you. There's no fooling Mr Jobs.

The Samsung had a water sensor as well, I think the whole thing was that if you dry them out the sensors actually reset since you dry out the moistness that just draining and cleaning would leave. Got nothing to lose really if it's totally boned, and if you know where the sensors are it's even better as you could always just try it out superheating one pad to see if anything changes.

One day I was sitting on the bog, sending a text to a mate. Somehow the phone slips...plonk...

I scream, jump up, stick my hand in there without a thought, only to push the phone further down the pipe!

Scream again, grab it, pull it out.

Stick it on the heater, good as new.

That was like 4 years ago. :p And it's still goin.

Couple of things that has going for it over my V9 at the moment, durability and battery life...something most people would rate pretty highly. *stares at V9 charging, with scratches all over it*

Can't believe you reached into the toilet. :D
I think it might be time for a new phone, did i tell you im selling a 3week iPhone half retail price? No scratches.

This is my plan of attack:
Right now i have the phone sitting in a lunchbox, buried in rice, sitting over the heater vent. (Apparently rice absorbs all the moisture) It's been there for a good 7 hrs. I just took a peek at it, there's condensation completely covering the camera lens and rounding out the 4 corners of the screen.
Since i didn't pay attention in Yr 7 Science, will that condensation eventually evaporate or....? (Doesn't matter if it doesn't, cause i could just get the electronics teacher at school to dismantle it and wipe away, thats if it still works.)

Actually i think i just had my first win, the external water sensor located inside the headphone jack which was pink is now white again. Thanks to a nicely placed grain of rice, which absorbed all the pink colouring. So if that obvious condensation evaporates, the Genius' at the Apple Store would have no idea it was affected by water and just think it shat itself, and then in turn they would hand over a new one since im covered by warranty. Yuss! :thumbsu: Getting way ahead of myself.

God i should've just went to school. Lesson learnt.

Lawl, at the time it was a new phone, about 3 months into a 24 month contract. I think I took the right option.

Haha, good luck with it CHB.

Condensation comes from evaporation for one, so I don't think it will evaporate away... :p

Screen damage can be explained away with moisture in the air as you could simply say you were using it in a humid place and the rapidly changing temperatures from pockets to humidity to air con triggered an adverse reaction in the confined spaces of the phone.

As for condensation, yes and no. there may be residual markings on the screen itself as glass is in effect crystalised and polished water, since condensation coes through the forms of a gas then a liquid the formation of crystals could react to the composition and leave residue while the liquid residue itself is removed.

Ultimately though, if you do decide to take it in for a warranty replacement, as long as you have a believeable excuse for any damage to the screen as far as condensation goes the only thing that is covered is the water sensors and if they show that the entire phoen has not been submerged then they'd have no choice but to believe you.

Is there a shortened version of that post? :p
No no i get it, thanks for that and everyone else's advice. :)
I'll see how the next few days go, the fact that the lunch box is coated in evaporated water is a good sign.
Now its all about timing, my patience is wearing thin but i don't want to short circuit it. I'll try and wait until Monday morning at least. Try.

Its ****ing ****ed. ****. :(

I need one more piece of advice, should i tell the parents and find out if they have home and contents insurance (if they do i get it replaced for free :)), but run the risk of them not having it and then getting an absolute hiding for breaking a $900 phone already.

Or should i dig up $250 from no where and buy a refurbished one, without them knowing a thing.

Im thinking maybe I should suss out Dad to see weather we have insurance, without mentioning the phone. ( he has no hope of catching on to anything.)

Yup, it can be done.

3 straight nights, trying to fall asleep without an ipod, you get a lot of thinking done. Ive got this planned out.

When asking Dad, I'll replace "my Iphone" with "your Xbox".
"Dad, know how you Xbox is stuffed, yeah anyway, you could get it replaced for free, do you have home and contents insurance?" Boom, theres your answer.

If we don't, im just going to have to ask Nan for some money. :)

Im using the Xbox to sus out weather we have home and contents insurance. Cause you know not everyday your 17 yo daughter asks if you got home insurance just for no reason. He doesn't understand the technical specifications of things, so he won't ask how, why etc. Straight up yes/no answer. Probably doens't make sense in writing.

I've read that certain insurance policies cover water damaged items (people have had water damaged phones replaced). Just a matter of if we're covered.

Im not liking your sarcastic grammar, tone it down shintaro.

Ive got everyone on the edge of their computer seat. You can feel the tension.
