It doesn't sound great, to be honest: bureaucratic, something of a lottery for many, and not a universal system. Sounds like those without much money must rely on the goodwill of public providers but don't get the best treatment guaranteed. Seems to me some clinicians can treat it as a business, by seeing wealthy patients, whilst the more public spirited make sacrifices to treat those who don't have much.

I much prefer our socialist system of free to all at the point of delivery, no matter how expensive the treatment. We have private medicine, but everyone is covered by, and pays for, the NHS, and anyone who takes out private insurance does so as an extra cost. Private hospitals have no accident and emergency departments, but are solely for elective surgery.

We used to have that and our tories tried to send it to a US style system but now we have a dumb half in system where neither works well. Our elective surgery for the poor is really bad now and people will wait a long time for basic stuff.

It’s far more advantageous to ordinary people than going down the American route which the liberals like to push.

Yes much to my disgust everything not nailed down has been privatised and deregulated and what’s left the liberals are trying to privatise as well.

I feel like the pendulum is about to swing back here, energy and in particular gas is going to become a national scandal of epic proportions. I believe the inevitable enquiry will open the flood gates and open peoples eyes.

The gas we sell is the most shamefully corrupt scandal ever and it's never mentioned and no government will act to stop it being given away for near to nothing. It could be changed with the push of a pen but we don't. Turnbull was asked to investigate in 2016 and nothing was done despite us getting $800 million compared to Qatar getting $26.6 billion for the same amount. We can buy our gas back wholesale in Japan and ship it for less than what we buy it for to supply domestically and have shortages.

It's literally one of the most embarrassing things you could witness and no one ever hears about why our energy costs are so high. A family friend who is a senior partner for a major auditing company said he'd worked on some of data and says he just can't work out why it's not on every newspaper and television news service everyday until it's changed.

The dumbest privatisation projects are where we pay for the company to run the services and then also pay to buy all their infrastructure for them as well. The companies get profits from the public paying for the service and double dip the government and get given the networks for free.

Funding is tricky.
If you just throw money at a health system they quickly find ways to spend it all, not necessarily to the betterment of health.

A real example a customer was telling me , was trying to supply the electric actuators for Hospital beds.
The budget had been reduced and the hospital equipment maintenance guy had approached him to see if he could get a better deal.
His products were competitive, "but what about the service contract "? He was asked.
Turns out that he couldn't provide the service contract. BUT ...the only thing that ever needed looking at was so easy to deal with the Hospital were able to do it in house. Turns out that the service contract had been costing the Hospital more than the items. Less money spent on health, no detriment to patients or health.

The thing is, no-one would have looked at it , if the funding hadn't been cut.
I'm not saying that cutting funding is the best solution, but in the modern world it seems that everyone just looks at numbers and targets, and doesn't dig into details.

Education is the same, increase spending to make the kids smarter, they buy a heap of tech... and still don't address the basic issues of literacy and numeracy.

People are greedy and always rip off the government in Australia. Often they use the size of an organisation to rip them off because they know no-one is watching. I worked for a major retailer and everyone used to rip them off because they knew the upper management didn't have their eyes open. Everything from under supplying and invoicing for more than we got to doing small jobs and charging for major ones. Once invoicing goes to enough people no one relates it to the actual job any more.

Someone is going to blow the lid right off this and when they do look out.

I look at gas absolutely outrageous, electricity another scandal etc.

Imo it’s time to follow the money find out who is getting what, who is on the board, who were the lobbyists etc, nobody signs up for deals like these without someone getting paid.

The next time some turd mentions sovereign risk I’m going to punch them in the throat, yeah no one will invest when the profits are only fantastic not immoral anymore.

Forget all those trivial issues! This losers tale of yet another fail is far more interesting! :(

Don't know if i've mentioned before but i'm quite the punter and follow the horses closely!
Finally bit the bullet recently and decided that together with my many other vices....
That basically how much can a Koala Bear?
Had to make some changes!

So right smack in the middle of the spring carnival i vow to take a month off the punt with
the exception of the Melb Cup! But being the sucker for punishment i am
was found melon first into the form guide yesterday only to reinforce to said stickybeaks
that i would remain vigilant and not actually bet at all today!

I'm pleased to say i stayed true to my word! :)

Only thing that sticks in my left testicle just a wee bit is the fact that after my vow
of abstinence, said stickybeaks still had the temerity to ask who i liked for the day....
So being of generous mind and of beautiful spirit, i told them i thought there were
2 standout value specials for the day....The Odyssey at about 18-1 early on
and then Best Solution at 16-1 for the Cup!......They of course cashed in! And How!
But being of corrupt minds and a dark turd for spirits do they share with
the wise Malaka? Nooooo!

Meanwhile i am now left lamenting my well intentioned plan for change
and find myself feeling the evil pull of now gambling like a mofo that will
ultimately see me doin all my dough on the last at the Dapto Dogs tonight!..... :weary:

That's how they get you dude, don't get sucked back in. It's easy to remember the ones that would have paid out and ignore the one that would have blown $300 for no return.

I grew up in Latrobe Valley, where the SEC was everything. The workers would pop the window out the back of the bus to bring home lengths of steel they stole. Everyone on the bus complicit.
Now we have a rotton private system.. That's what happens when you shit in a perfectly good nest.

Spotted on twitter after the Wentworth by election.

Very clever.

Let’s talk cricket lol, or maybe we shouldn’t.
What’s happened to Mitchell Starc ? A few years back he was our great hope to destroy other sides with his bowling and batting . His bowling over the last couple of years has been just ok without standing out at all . He has been getting one or two wickets an inning but no big performances . His batting has been extremely disappointing. Early on people were saying he was going to be this great all rounder . I don’t know what his average for batting is over the last two years but I would be surprised if it was in double figures .
Where do you think it has gone wrong for him ?

He seemed to be able to move the ball both ways when bowling early on in his career but seems to have completely lost that ability.

Go Saints

Folks, if one day the Mrs and I decide we'd like a bit of sunshine, beach life and Saints games, what's the process for moving to Australia? I have a notion it's difficult to get in, even for Poms, is that right? Ironic that the original white settlers were sent to Australia as punishment, now we want to live there. We ****ed up :D

But if your affluent with a nice job lined up here, then it's pretty simple!

See Australia values one thing above all when it comes to migration these days. even from the mother ship!
Money...Money....Money!

Btw Big game tonight man! Hope the lads are up for it!
Next 3 days are crucial i would think!....Especially for Jose!
Hope it's another memorable Euro night for the Old Trafford faithful.
Make some noise boys....Good luck!.....:)

Put most of your money in an offshore account.
Travel by aeroplane to Dempesar ( Bali) on a tourist Visa.
Mail your travel documents to a trusted person.
Bribe some local fisherman to carry you to Australian waters.
When the Navy picks you up come up with a story about how repressed you are at home. Act desperate, throw children in the water if necessary.
When they refuse you refugee status, don't give up, spend some time on a tropical island while the free lawyer the government will provide you tries to get you in.

OR:
Have an "Hi Tech" skill that will impress the immigration department.
Particle Collider Designer. "Ohhh dat souns cleva , we need more partcal Cliders "
Astrophysicist ( You could run the movie in the Planetarium ).
Bridge Architect. ( In Australia we prefer to drive around the rivers. Its a massive deal if we build a bridge )

Please bear in mind that none of these highly impressive qualifications will land you a job in Australia , but it will certainly impress the immigration department enough to let you in.

I have friends from France that have become citizens recently so it can be done. I think it's probably not easy but not impossible.

I was talking to a guy from Iran.
Him and his wife were kind of disappointed.
She'd been some sort of Material/Logistics manager at a Renault plant in Syria, and were assured that there would be jobs here for her.
After a couple of years she got a job on the assembly line at Ford. ( When i spoke to him it was a year before they closed the plant ).
His job had also not worked out the way he planned.

Some people would give their left leg to move here.
But others get pissed off because their careers are negated by false promises, and they may well have gone somewhere else if they knew what they now know.

There’s plenty of information online, it depends on which category you’re applying under.

You would need to meet a points tally based on things like age, education, skilled experience, English language skills etc.

It’s probably not all that dissimilar to Britain’s we’re looking for young, healthy skilled migrants but I know you have a masters and I assume your in the right age bracket so with your English skills you’re pretty well above the points you need already.

I reckon if I moved to Europe for work and got shit work I'd be pissed off too. I would be whinger. My father in law was pissed off because he applied to the US, Canada and Australia and only got Australia, now he counts how lucky he was that he arsed it here. He did very well in Australia, worked hard and made it rich.

Some immigrants are just campaigners but some of my best friends are campaigners so they will probably fit in quite well.

Work on your south African accent and tell them your farm has been seized and that you believe it's OK to be white.

Cheers. I can't believe we Poms have to apply, along with the likes of the French and the Iranians. Prince Harry is over there now with his Mrs and is being given the red carpet. That's what I would want; screaming at immigration officials that our queen still owns this country :D

In a queue with the French? WTF has the empire come to? :D
