Cheers. I can't believe we Poms have to apply, along with the likes of the French and the Iranians. Prince Harry is over there now with his Mrs and is being given the red carpet. That's what I would want; screaming at immigration officials that our queen still owns this country :D

In a queue with the French? WTF has the empire come to? :D

You sound like my grandmother, she had an unnatural dislike of the French from past history between England and the French. We did the Ancestry thing and found we had heaps of French and German blood in the line ...funny enough her other most hated race because of WWII.

That was one of the first aspects of civilised society that the English brought to its colonies. The queue. You should feel proud that this great hallmark of English tradition is alive and well in the modern world.

In Fiji getting your first “NO” from the Australian embassy is a rite of passage. Actually being allowed to travel to Australia is like winning a premiership - it actually takes many attempts and hundreds of hours of planning, training and competition.

Haha yeah we all had a pretty sweet thing going until you ditched us for the EU.

I think Boris was talking about trying to right the ship recently it seemed like a good idea when I heard him speaking about it but I guess it’s going nowhere a bit like him.

Disgraceful, we're practically family.

The Union Jack is still in the corner of your flag; what the **** is going on here? I'm not asking for much: only a nice house by the beach (with small domestic staff and pool) a very lucrative job and Saints flag once in a while. Hardly unreasonable, yet now I'm told to queue with everyone else. Your ancestors didn't give their lives on the beaches of Gallipoli so that I would have to endure this ordeal. A British passport once opened any door; now Jonny Foreigner thinks he's as good us as. :D

Its your own fault, granting us independence.
I mean what were we going to do if you refused, attack you with Massey Ferguson tractors?
Seriously , you've even given back places like India and Hong Kong.
How do you expect to do well when you give away all your stuff?

Work on your south African accent and tell them your farm has been seized and that you believe it's OK to be white.

I’m sure that my very good family friend, a white farmer in a very successful wine farm in the Cape, whose black employees are all Shareholders in his business, and who was attacked and beaten to within an inch of his life on his farm, yet will not leave because he believes in post apartheid SA, would be interested to hear your suggestion.

Google him...Charles Back of Fairview wine farm.

I realise you were having a bit of fun, but this hit a nerve because farmers ARE being tortured and murdered ( wives r*ped) and in the way of Zimbabwe, farms are being seized and the population starve with no one to feed them.

Edit: Read the article highlighted in purple. Very interesting.

Tourist note: if anyone ever visits Cape Town you will not find a better wine farm than this, with award winning goats cheeses and a chocolatier on the premises. Lunch at the “Goatshed” is a must. Five star. :)

BUYING A NEW CAR

If anyone is thinking of buying a new car, may I share my recent experience:

1. Go online to select the make and model of the car you want. Select the required options. Get a price. This will be the MRSP (Manufacturers Recommended Selling Price).
2. Go to dealer. Touch, taste, smell the model you are after. Take up two hours of the salesperson’s life. Do NOT commit to anything, make sure the salesperson understands that you will buy the car but until you finish your research (they’re not very bright, you might need to repeat yourself a few times), make sure the salesperson has your contact details and you have theirs.
3. Two weeks after that meeting, email the salesperson requesting a written quote requiring ALL costs to be separately itemised. Be VERY specific about your requirements. You should have got those down after the two hours you spent at the dealer. Do not answer the phone if they ring you. Communicate only via email.
4. The salesperson will eventually send you an email with a quote. Inevitably, the quote will not be quite what you requested (remember: these people are not rocket scientists). Make sure the quote actually adds up, and the correct taxes have been charged.
5. The quote will be something less than the MRSP. In my case: 4%.
6. Now contact an e-based disruptor via email or phone. You can easily find these guys via Google. If you want to know the one I used: pm me.
7. These guys operate on the same principle as any other on line shopping. Consumers got to a retailer to check out a product, then buy it online at a cheaper price.
8. You must be VERY specific about your requirements. But given you’ve spent those two hours at the dealer, that should not be a problem.
9. These guys aggregate private purchases on the one maker, then put them out to tender to the dealers. In my instance, there were five vehicles involved.
10. Takes about five days before they come back to you with a quote. In my instance: I got a further 10% off the dealers quote. All up, nearly 15% off the MRSP.
11. This cost me $178, no hours of my life, saved me thousands of $’s and the car was delivered to my door. Note: the $178 was paid only AFTER I accepted the quote.

PS: now email the dealer to advise them that they did not get your business. :)

The comments were aimed at the double standards over here regarding refugees.

Ha good work mate.

Disruptors are good... I should know.

Back in the day we'd do that by faxing all dealers lol.

That takes a whole lot of effort and thinking. When we bought ours we went to the same dealer as the time before asked for less than they asked got some floor mats and boot liner and crap thrown in and some money off. Could have got a cheaper one off the floor but my wife had to ask for a colour no one else would want so had to order it. Seriously though I don't even know what I want so just go look at the car and see if it's okay. We got a Mazda CX5 from Brighton Mazda, they gave us a reasonable trade in and because we'd bought off them before they looked after us on price. I haven't got the attention span to be that organised.

In Germany we hired a car that had all the driver assistance so now I want a luxury car. The car we got had lane tracking, the cruise control kept you always at a safe distance and braked for you even and if you flicked an indicator it would accelerate for you to overtake. It worked out a truck was going to pull into us in Italy on the Autostrada at 160km and slowed and stop us getting hit. If it sensed you were wandering it would tell you to stop and have a rest from driving and had sensors if you wandered in the lane and vibrated the steering wheel. My father in law has an E class Benz with the same package and that won't let you change lanes if there is a car in your blind spot and you can literally let go of the steering wheel and it stays in it's lane on the freeway. They are unbelievable, you can drive for 3 hours straight and feel fresh.

Sorry, it just hit a nerve. Charles is very close family friend and a more decent, ethical and caring man you have yet to find. He loves SA and has embraced and is still so positive about the “new” SA. And he lives it.

There have been plenty of serious comments like this however, because it gets very little media coverage around the world ( as you say you hear these things from your friends) and this is far from an isolated case and a lot of people here think it’s just a crock. Many of the farmers and their families have been tortured in horrific ways

I think a lot of people believe white South Africans “deserve what they get” but, you know, it’s like blaming German people today for what happened in WW2. Or Australians today for the Stolen Generation.

It definitely happens but some people say it's genocide or make it an excuse for perpetuating racism. In reality the whole country is struggling with criminal activity. People are poor and desperate and take it out on the wrong people, corruption, disorganisation and politicians that don't want to address issues are probably a big part of it. It's a mess and doesn't look like it's improving any time soon.

When politicians stand up and talk about seizing white farmers land it can only encourage violence against whites.

Whilst it’s true the whole country is struggling I don’t think you really give a shit about why you’re getting a machete in the head while your wife is being r*ped.

I have few problems with white South Africans being offered entry here, to me it makes sense especially given our current migration intake.

Undoubtedly some will question why single them out, the answer in my opinion is pretty obvious given what we have seen in similar situations in Africa. It’s interesting and worth noting that if they put to sea or turned up by air seeking refugee status imo they would get it. They would run straight into Australia without passing through another country. Why are they different from black South Africans is the obvious question and the answer is that they are now a persecuted minority. Black South Africans would be viewed as just another person from a poor and violent country much like the members of the current caravan heading for the US border.

The best resolution would be for the SA government and opposition to stop the rubbish for everyone’s sake but somehow I doubt that will happen.

The more i look around the more thankful I am to wake up in Australia everyday. I had my daughters engagement party down at sails last Sunday, my sons graduation ceremony at Monash on Thursday and I’m chilling the beer and tuning into the Red Sox game this morning. I will return to normal service complaining about the saints next week.

My understanding of this is that it comes down to African culture where it is seen as important that everyone has their piece of land.

So everyone is now getting land and unable to do anything with it because the whites have the skills.

This another Zimbabwe in the making.

The other thing that got me was the corruption in government.

The President can build himself a palace with public money, and it's acceptable because he is basically the Chief or Elder and it's fitting of him.

Diehard can confirm?

What I can confirm is that as much as the black population was screwed in the apartheid era ( where many still had employment, although not in any way excusing the blatant racist policies), the population is now doubly screwed by their own corrupt politicians who promised everything and delivered nothing.....except to a rare few. And I would hazard a guess that employment figures for the general population have not improved at all despite the affirmative action policies of the post apartheid governments.

It’s such a complex situation there that’s it’s really hard to actually even begin to understand unless one has actually spent time there.

In SA the president is an elected position though and nothing to do with tribal positions even though Mandela was actually a chief of his tribe.

The principalities of Lesotho and Swaziland do run along the lines of royalty though.

Just go to the service that John Cadogen promotes.
Tell them what you want , and the quote or best retail price.
They are fleet buyers but they do singles as well. Their fee is a few hundred paid for by the dealer that wins the business.
They will get you a good price, but it depends what car it is how much.
You'd probably get a huge discount on a Holden Astra or Commodore right now.

South Africa was invaded a long time ago now.
If they'd moved in and called an election and allowed the locals to vote, it would have sort have removed the whole point of invading in the first place.
From that time ...and any time until it happened ,forming a democracy and allowing everyone to vote was going to be a disaster.
Then it happened and it was.
I don't blame anyone for not wanting it inflicted on them in their lifetime.

Hopefully over the long term it will sort itself out.

Much of that rests with the people and their leader.

If they choose the path of victim mentality, it will take generations, or will simply fall apart like Zimbabwe.

Or they choose to embrace inclusion and understanding that they need the skill set of whites to advance the nation, as Mandela had.

The people need to take back control and demand that standards improve, not just blindly follow a president because he's one of them.
