Now tell the truth, Gringo. You bought those chocolate bars for yourself, didn't you? You didn't give a single one away, did you?

Possibly some truth in that, I was scowling when the little campaigners grabbed handfuls instead of one. If the mums hadn't been attractive, I would have told the little campaigners not to be greedy. Still probably needed to buy about a third of the amount I did. I reckon I ate so many little snickers last night I gave myself diabetes.

We had a sign on the door along the lines of "sorry no candy, the ghosts took it all". Heard a few of the mums outside have a little chuckle, obviously after reading it.

As we were waiting to exit the house we heard another group approaching. Looked through the spy hole and saw a mum looking at the door and have a giggle. She started to move on. Just then the kids she were escorting reached the front gate, having finished with the neighbours. One little girl saw our sign and got quite excited by the prominently placed ghost image on our sign. She was about to fling the gate wide open when the mum has told her "no don't go in, the ghosts took all the candy"

The little primary school aged girl stood motionless for a couple of seconds, still looking towards our front door.

Then exclaimed "yeah; right! [emoji849]"

Little smart arsed bitch [emoji51]

we had the girls about 15 years old come to the door one with her school uniform on the other with a bowtie around her neck and the third with bunny ears ... no effort at all .. i told them we werent doing halloween ... the next group came and it was a group of 6 kids decked out as super heros as always i asked them what they were dressed as and gave them their lollies .....
i like halloween for the kids getting into it but the teenagers need to give it a miss

My daughter who is now scarily able to driver herself around came home and said "I have a halloween party tonight i need a costume " , so we're like "shit how long have you known about this"? "About a month "

Hair fluffed up and lots of hairspray.. black mascara right down into the sockets... Bright red smudged lipstick. Some old red reflective party dress and black stockings with ladders .
SCARRRRRY.
( But then she can be scary at the best of times ).

Mind you, i'm sure the Bunny ears and School uniform worked for some people.

Our neighbourhood gets right into it. It’s only wifey and I at home now so we end up doing the too much candy take it all to work thing every year. The last kids to come around are always getting overs too, as it becomes painfully aware that we have over done the treats.

I have a little dog who is a smash hit with all the neighbourhood kids. Whenever I go for a walk if there are kids at the park they will grab the pooch and she will play fetch, hide and seek, and tag depending on what the kids feel like. Anyway every Halloween the pupster gets to say hello to the kids as they do their rounds and they always stop to give her pats and boops and call her by name. This year one of the accompanying parents dressed up as Freddy Krueger with the special hands and tried to pat the dog and the dog snarled and went her (just stopping short of nipping her). I had to lock the dog away after that.

It lost a bit of it’s sheen after that.

You can't blame the poor pooch for that! lol
Sounds like she was just doing her job!
Hate to think what my Rottweiler would do to any Freddie wannabe's!
Doesn't like surprises the big fella! :)

my pup before he went to doggie heaven last year was a 65kg Bull Mastif x Ridgeback, a more gentle dog you will never meet but his sheer size and his big barrelly chest meant when he barked the whole suburb knew about it ... he used to love halloween the kids would come push the doorbell that would wake him up (he slept a lot especially as he got older) and the Wooooof the kids would jump a metre in the air .. gave them a good scare :)

Yeah, I’m not blaming her. She was just looking after those kids. She’s only a small dog (Tenterfield Terrier x Parsons Jack) which is probably why the kids love her so much.

She’s a Saints member too!

Pet membership is a bargain, we got a huge free bag of dog food, leash, bags etc for free and I think it's like $10 or $20 a year. Mine's on the roll over with the memberships I can't remember what we paid but it's really great value what ever it was.

I asked my Sampson whether he would like to become a saints member
and i shit you not he growled at me for the only time in his life! lol

As if to say i've watched you dad when the Saints are on and you can leave me the f#ck out of that! lol
The big boy was not impressed with the concept, and even less impressed with the prospect of wearing
a Saints bandana! Normally despite his size and considerable bark he's just a big softie who is gentle as!
And clearly when it came to the saints are smart and discerning chap to boot! :)

Cannot understand why I Am A Star has drifted out to 16-1! I'm a big fan also
and may just have to break my self imposed embargo to have a nibble on her!

Also like Lean Mean Machine and think Coming Through is way over the odds in the 8th....Currently 31-1 also
Life Less Ordinary in the same race whom i actually took in a futures market a few weeks back at 150-1
One in the first that's also at a huge price is the aptly named Grim Reaper. Not without a hope!

But i'm not gambling anymore! lol
BTW Also took Runaway at 200-1 for the Melb Cup before he won the Geelong Cup bless his soul
looks like he will get a run too now!

Friend just dropped off some letters I wrote to her back in the mid 90’s when I was working in LA.
Yes, letters.
How we communicated before email or smartphone.....
Anyways, I’m glad she kept them as they have brought back some great memories.
And laughing for me, as I re-read these impressions again, nearly 25 years later.
Laughing at drive through ATM’s with Braille buttons, my first seventh innings stretch, tooling around in a T-Bird, hitting Long Beach ER on Super Bowl night, navigating US healthcare without US insurance. Californian women. Driving in Nevada snow on Californian tyres.
But it is the idiom of that place and that time that stands out.
I was so totally spaced by this.
It was fat to read the letters again.
That time was real.
:)

That’s a fantastic gift, my sister just gave me some old photos and I thought that was good.

Remember Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, Scooby Do and that Shepherd on the German detective show, Derek? Dogs are no fools. Smarter than humans in some instances, with superior intuition. No fooling them, except when you hide their tennis ball behind your back. They're highly vulnerable to that trick.

If you could write '90's Sunny a letter from the future, what would you advise him?

Seriously: I’d tell him to celebrate each moment.
Those years in LA are fondly remembered.
And, in part, were responsible for my second sojourn Stateside. This time in S.C.
Near enough a twenty year separation between the two.
That second time was a life highlight, without a doubt.
One of those times you hold precious as they cannot be repeated nor replaced.

And as I look back know, I marvel at how lucky I have been.

The result of good karma from previois lives, a Buddhist might posit.

The Guardian is reporting that Mark Latham to join One Nation.

Good lord.

News Corp reports former Labor leader will announce he will lead NSW branch of the party but won’t be on the Senate ticket

Mark Latham led Labor to the 2004 federal election defeat but is now reportedly going to announce he is joining Pauline Hanson’s One Nation.

News Corp reports Latham will reveal on Wednesday he will lead the New South Wales branch of the party but won’t be on the Senate ticket.

“You’ve only just got to watch this space,” Latham told 2GB radio on Tuesday when he was questioned about joining One Nation.

A number of minor political parties have been courting Latham, including the Liberal Democrats.

The former Tasmanian Labor premier David Bartlett called him a “sick, sad, sorry loser” after the news broke.

“This will end badly as (Mr Latham) is either unwell, a massive narcissist or dumb as a box of hammers (or all three),” Bartlett tweeted.

Latham led Labor to a solid defeat against John Howard in 2004, and he quit federal parliament in 2005.

He claims he was sacked as a columnist for the Australian Financial Review in 2015 for making offensive comments on Twitter about Rosie Batty, whose ex-husband murdered her son in a violent public attack, and other female journalists.

Latham was also sacked from Sky News after just four months co-hosting a show, due to offensive comments about fellow Sky presenters and the teenage daughter of the Reserve Bank governor.”

Got to love the immediate slurs that come out after something like this.
Whatever Pauline Hanson's views are, she certainly doesn't seem to be a fool and I've actually been impressed when I've heard Audio of her in the senate, making sure she fully understands an issue before voting on it.
Latham may well be a massive narcissist, ( though i think not more so than Kevin Rudd ) but Bartlett's other comments are just pure political bluster. No Latham is not a Dumb. What were you saying about him before the Howard/Latham Election Bartlett?
