I'm a fan of the show. But this season of Game of Thrones has been disappointing television.
The pinnacle was reached with the red wedding episode (S3, E9).... Nothing has come close to matching that IMO

I just can't wait until Cersei Lannister is offed... That sneaky conniving bitch needs to be killed off in a really macabre way

Episode 5 was the best this season, underwhelming so far. Sand Snakes plotline is awful, although I think that's writing and not much time spent with the choreographer.

It's a little awkward. Narratively, we're in the second act, taking the RW and the subsequent fallout as the end of act 1. The books have a few issues but still make sense within that structure, whereas the show seems to try and keep us constantly in that climax, shunting world building and nuance to the realm of boredom.
Anyone else getting sick of the overuse of 'soft focus' camera work this season?

It's driving me nuts & makes the show lose a bit of its dirty grittiness

Depends on how they develop them. Most teams have a few less skilled but highly competitive players on the list. Even the best ones. People had Ross delisted last year now he's expected to be a gun. Bruce was a back man who couldn't defend at the end of last year, Jason Blake was a spud, Goddard was the worst number 1 pick in history after a couple of seasons. I think they look better than Murdoch who for all his skills doesn't get enough of the ball.
Sacrilege!
Jason Blake was never a spud, although he may have been a sausage (to use Yabby's analogy). Not your garden variety, meat and potatoes footballer, he was a premium quality sausage ....
... and did I mention he was a top bloke too?

haven't read the books, but, all book series have tedious parts, even whole books to build the storyline for the future. I just found it odd that they went 2 whole shows without any boobs.....

Interesting to see the reaction in the US over the Sansa rape scene, is the show trying to hard to make Sansa's eventual triumph( guess) seem epic? a far too easy turning point for Theon's redemption.

Sit down lads, yes, just White there. Welcome to my Holmes, can I take your Coates? You must have been McCartin those around all day. Let's just Saunders over this way to the kitchen, I'm a great Cook. I'm being a little Cockie, that isn't Wright.

I'm disgusted with myself.
What the hell:eek:
All these shit puns and i wasnt invited to join in

Its still been a good day though:thumbsu:
I got offered a 50 inch plasma TV for only $100.
The volume control was broken but for that price i couldnt turn it down:rolleyes:

Got through it about a month ago. Cracking show.
Yeah, I'm really loving it. I really love so many aspects of it. I love Murdoch's interaction with his faith (obviously a big thing for me), I love that he's blind but that is portrayed as an empowering thing. I also love the strong sense of community and asset-based building of the community in the show. The actors are fantastic, too - especially loving Kingpin's character being much more complex than he's often portrayed. All of them are far deeper than you usually see in superhero stuff (and I say that as a massive fan of the genre).

It's actually significantly more horrific in the books. It happens to a character who's been in an even worse situation than Sansa throughout the books, and the acts themselves are more humiliating and disgusting. Sansa's arc however looks to be in pieces, her development as a character is being shunted aside for the sake of a smaller universe. Of course, this weeks, and the 4 remaining episodes might change that, so any further criticism will be reserved for then.

I like Don'Ofrios take on Fisk, he's almost autistic in his interaction with others, and his dedication to passions. Murdoch and Foggy are fabulous as well, Wesley is great.

The first season is very much about Wilson Fisk and the man in the mask rather than Kingpin and Daredevil, which has been a good way to do it. In the films, villains get butchered. Stane turned from a calculating bastard into a caricature of every villain, Hammer became comic relief, Red Skull ominously disappeared, never to be seen again. Mandarin was awful, Ronan got turned into a madman, The great other got 3 minutes of Screen time across two movies, Ultron fell into the pit of Whedon's whitty comments, Malekith got no development beyond dark elves bad and Thanos has done nothing but sit in his chair.

It was nice to see a villain get significant screentime and development, something that I thought Agents of Shield did well in Season two with Cal and Jay Ying. The television format does help no doubt, but it'd be nice to see a villain other than Loki become develop and become a compelling character in the films too.

Was speaking to my Dad (who's read the books & watches the series) about GOT and he mentioned that the Sansa/Ramsay rape was depicted 100000x worse in the books... To the extent that Ramsay had Theon/Reek participate & do all sorts of macabre things to her

If I could figure out how to post a spoiler tag on tapatalk, I'd give either the passage or a summary from the books from the scene.

Obviously just without the gap in between the O and I.

Breaking Bad one of the greatest series but nothing comes close to Fargo and True Detective IMO. Amazing television, both series.

Justified was also an awesome series... highly recommended. It's like watching the Kentucky version of Collingwood supporters.

Thanks for the heads up on Daredevil.

Fargo was good... apparently second season on the way. The FAll was good as well.

so much to watch.

Spoilers for this season of game of thrones, potential spoilers for unaired episodes have been redacted.

In the books, Sansa and Littlefinger don't go North from the eyrie, instead this is another scheme of Tywin from before his death.

When Ned and the Starks are all killed in Kings Landing, Sansa's best friend, Jeyne Poole is mistakenly left alive. Littlefinger takes her away and makes her a whore (remembering that she is the same age as Sansa, roughly 13).

Arya is missing presumed dead, so after the Red Wedding, Tywin sends Jeyne who has a similar colouring to Arya, North as a fake stark heir to marry Ramsay. Theon's role in the wedding becomes much more important, as the closest thing to a living relative, no one can outwardly question her authenticity.

In the first night, Ramsay rapes her digitally, and proclaims her to be cold and dry. He then instructs Theon to prepare her for him, with his tounge. The chapter ends with Reek bent to his task, leaving the worst of it to our imagination.

Later, we see that she's undergone similar psychological torture to Theon. Directly quoting from a chapter.

"No. This is just some trick. It's him it's my . . . my lord, my sweet lord, he sent you, this is just some test to make sure I love him. I do, I do, I love him more than anything." A tear ran down her cheek. " Tell him, you tell him. I'll do what he wants . . . whatever he wants . . . with him or . . . with the dog or . . . please . . . he doesn't need to cut my feet off, I won't try to run away not ever, I'll give him sons, I swear it, I swear it. . . "

. . . "I'm a good girl." Jeyne whimpered. "They trained me."

I'll take a Sansa rape as the lesser of two evils, albeit not happily.

The Wire is the Don Bradman of TV imo. Just an order of magnitude better than anything else I've ever seen. Breaking Bad is maybe a Viv Richards on that scale. Haven't seen Fargo or True Detective though, I'll put em on the to watch list.

If you're a massive fan of the genre I'm assuming you've been watching The Flash as well?

Blake was a gumby for his 1st 100 games... awkward, fumbling & the cause of many receding hairlines amongst Saints supporters.
Then he magically became strong & reliable. Great club man & respected by all but he certainly did spend quite a bit of his early career in the produce section.

I think he got used as a utility everywhere on the ground including the ruck. Ross came in and gave him a settled spot as a 3rd tall in the backline.

He never looked clean and even towards the end juggled his marks and floated kicks but the results were always better than the style with Blake. Early on he made me feel sick when he got the ball. He reminded me of Nick Maxwell, both seemed to look a bit like Gumbies when they played but got the job done when they needed to. Some guys look more awkward so get a harsher judgement.
