Clearly, you have all failed to realise the only legitimate answer to this question.

For all the flak the USA receives (not from yours truly, I've been there and the people are amazing)
But in the last year or so they have had a number of states legalise Marijuana & now same sex marriage.
If only our country were so forward thinking.

They also have 100+ citizens die from police shootings per month, civil forfeiture laws which effectively allow the police to steal from the general public to the tune of billions a year, corrupt politicians, top 1% owning over 60% of the wealth, 15% of the population living of food stamps, terrible health care system & exorbitant college tuition, illegal to grow your own vegetables in some states, Donald Trump running for president and let's not the good ol right to bear arms that results in a mass shooting every other month. "Land of the Free". LOL, how insulting!

Not trying to have a go, have been to America many times and agree the people are incredibly friendly and positive which is a credit to them, particularly when you consider how screwed their country has become. However, there is a reason they cop flak. There are a range of social issues over there that just aren't in play here, and I have not even bothered to go into their warmongering. Modern America is most definitely not somebody we should aspire to emulate IMO.

Anyway, this is a footy blog so will try to wrap this rant up:p

Despite your statistics being exaggerated and 1 just completely wrong, you can point out huge pros & cons for every country and the way they are run. I don't agree with the way they do everything (in particular their gun laws, which will be changed sooner rather then later) but it doesn't take away that for 2 quite massive issues for the general public they have gone away from conventual thinking which is extremely hard for them to do.
It's easy to sit back & do nothing but as you pointed out they have a lot of issues to be addressed and at least they are heading in the right direction.

I think you mean conventional thinking, which in the sense of marriage equality it is actually not that big of a step as say the inherent racism that America has shown over its history and in some cases continue to show.

If by sooner on gun laws, you mean maybe in the next century, and maybe by more than 50% of the states that currently comprise the United States, you'd still be off the mark on this front. The USA would need constitutional reform to limit one of the fundamental rights to even begin to reform gun laws on a state level which would then need to be passed on by each state government, they will not have such reform in the lifetime of anyone above the age of 20, and it's questionable if it'll be removed in any future generations as such things have and will become the beacons for civil unrest trending to civil war. This is different to Australia since our rights are not enshrined as law, they are inferred, there is no bill of rights, no enshrined power of the people in such instances, which is why gun laws here were so easy to pass through.

Let's also not forget that economically the USA is also a bastion of utter stupidity mixed with sheer and unparalleled brilliance, as evidenced by the US dollar being worth what it is worth world wide and them having a giant clock currently counting in the trillions and outspending even their own GDP (something 115% compared to our 15-19%) and yet it's us with the falling dollar and debt emergency, and Greece facing bankruptcy as a nation and ongoing osterity.

Long and the short of it is that sometimes, shit just does not make sense.

Also, as a man who has loved watching news from foreign places (because my life is oh so sheltered =(), I am thoroughly overjoyed to find that I at least have good taste in women. Thanks boys!

Wow that's got to be the worst spelling mistake I've ever seen!

I'm off the mark thinking the states will change their gun laws this century?
I'll wager any money on it. It was not even 5 years ago that gay marriage rights was 'never' going to happen.
Obama came out last week and said changes need to be made, the way they're doing it is wrong.

Kendrick is head and shoulders on top of the game right now.. To Pimp A Butterfly was superb but it didn't get near GKMC for me.

Anyone else see him live at the Eminem show in Feb '14?

He's absolutely killing it. Jay Cole is another that's on a good run. Would love to see them live.

I can't help but like a lot of Drake music. Sometimes you need something a bit more upbeat!

J.cole and K Dot are the best rappers going around right now.

would love to see lamar get back to his M.A.A.D days but still loved pimp a butterfly.

Article references 14.6% on food stamps, I said 15%. Look up any reference you want it is always around the 15% number. Hardly grossly exaggerated:

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article...eficiaries-exceed-46000000-38-straight-months

Or you can learn about cops killing more people in 1 month than in a century in the U.K. right here:

Lean more about civil forfeiture here:

Or here if you want a humorous take:

Not sure what exactly you think is grossly exaggerated or made up here.

The American middle class are being screwed hardcore and we are exceptionally lucky to live in Australia. To say we should be more forward thinking like them because they legalised dope smoking and gay marriage is honestly ridiculous to me. Are their gun laws forward thinking too? Is the militarisation of the police forward thinking also? Is a political system that is bought and paid for by corporates forward thinking? Is bailing out the banking system forward thinking? Is relentless spying on every single American forward thinking as well?

Seriously what would happen if you got caught smoking a joint in Australia anyway, the cops would politely ask you to put it out? LOL, who cares. Good luck breaking a law in America, the judicial system is a lucky dip. Could get nothing, could get 100 years. Who knows, hopefully you don't get a judge sentencing you that owns stock in the prison and directly receives a profit for the imprisonment of offenders. Think I making that up as well. Feel free to read any of the following:

http://freekenthovind.com/2015/02/08/us-judges-stock-prison-industrial-complex/
http://www.salon.com/2013/09/23/6_shocking_revelations_about_how_private_prisons_make_money_partner/
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/13/us/13judge.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Seriously, what country would allow private prisons with judges allowed to own stock? That is messed up. I am not anti-American in any way. As you say they are extremely friendly people, but big business runs the country and they do whatever the F they want. If this is forward thinking I do not want any part in it.

Throwing the people a bone like same sex marriage and legalised dope smoking is dwarfed by the loss of civil rights Americans are experiencing every day. Be happy you live in a great country, sure it ain't perfect but it is a hell of a lot sweeter than what they have to cop.

Cole was at that Melbourne show I mentioned as well! Was Eminem, Kendrick, Cole, as well as Action Bronson (awful) and 360 at Etihad. A lot of brawls and a lot of weed amongst that crowd haha

Yeah I love Drake, he's prob my fave right now, dunno why he gets so much hate.

My top 3 are Drake/Kendrick/Em with honorable mentions to Kanye/Cole/Big Sean/A$AP.

Xzibit - at the speed of life and 40 dayz and 40 nightz are incredible albums.

I played 2001 to death. Loved that album, still do!

Drake gets hate because his lyrics are cheesy as f and because he produces similar songs all the time, not broadly accepted throughout the whole hip hop/rap community. He does lack substance on occasion. He is one of my favourites though ahahaha

Dre 2001 & Nas 'I Am' have not been removed from the CD stacker in my car since I bought it ;)
