Yeah, I'm really loving it. I really love so many aspects of it. I love Murdoch's interaction with his faith (obviously a big thing for me), I love that he's blind but that is portrayed as an empowering thing. I also love the strong sense of community and asset-based building of the community in the show. The actors are fantastic, too - especially loving Kingpin's character being much more complex than he's often portrayed. All of them are far deeper than you usually see in superhero stuff (and I say that as a massive fan of the genre).

Daredevil has always been juxtaposed against catholicism, since comic wise he is in effect fighting the corruption of the demon which is tied into the Hand being the primary villain group (who promtply kill Electra 47 billion times because she's a sucky ninja). Although TBF, I'm more looking forward to Iron Fist.

If you're a massive fan of the genre I'm assuming you've been watching The Flash as well?
Meh. I watched the first 6 or so episodes, mainly because I do enjoy Arrow (Oliver Queen is a bit of a personal favourite, at least in the DC universe). But I found it's a bit too plastic, especially with its villains, the epitome of the very thing Highlander35 described. In one of the crossover episodes back to Arrow, the Flash crew openly admit that. Flash feels more like a 90s Street Fighter type game ("and for your next opponent..."). I also find the whole love-triangle thing a little too cliched - they've already got the badly overdone "One armed man vs Fugutive" thing going with Barry's mum (which is kinda inevitable, given the canon for Flash), so going for another highly cliched storyline just seems meh.

Ah, Electra. For what it's worth, I didn't mind Daredevil the Movie, at least as much as some other people did. But woh, the Electra sequel - ugh. Just ugh.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with the Electra character in the TV series. I suspect she'll pop up midway through series 2 (although given I haven't finished watching the first series, I might be wrong and she's already there). Here's hoping the producers are watching Arrow and don't make the same mistakes that crew made with the Black Canary (worst. casting. ever.)

Justified and The Shield all the way here. I'm a massive Walt Goggins fan so I'll watch anything with him.

The Shield is unbelievable. Love it. Justified I never got into but mainly because I had other shows on the go. I'll give it a look I reckon.

I like Don'Ofrios take on Fisk, he's almost autistic in his interaction with others, and his dedication to passions. Murdoch and Foggy are fabulous as well, Wesley is great.

The first season is very much about Wilson Fisk and the man in the mask rather than Kingpin and Daredevil, which has been a good way to do it. In the films, villains get butchered. Stane turned from a calculating bastard into a caricature of every villain, Hammer became comic relief, Red Skull ominously disappeared, never to be seen again. Mandarin was awful, Ronan got turned into a madman, The great other got 3 minutes of Screen time across two movies, Ultron fell into the pit of Whedon's whitty comments, Malekith got no development beyond dark elves bad and Thanos has done nothing but sit in his chair.

It was nice to see a villain get significant screentime and development, something that I thought Agents of Shield did well in Season two with Cal and Jay Ying. The television format does help no doubt, but it'd be nice to see a villain other than Loki become develop and become a compelling character in the films too.
As I said in a previous post, TV can still make a skidmark of villain character development, and character development generally.

What I also love about Daredevil is that classic thing of two people effectively wanting the same ends, but by very different means: the ancient tension between idealism and pragmatism. Fisk is the brutal pragmatist, bordering on utilitarianism. Matt is the idealist, inevitably setting himself up for failure to live up to his own ideals. Both want a better Hell's Kitchen, though, and that's what makes it fascinating.

I really enjoy Agents of Shield, even if it's a little lightweight. Great characters in Mei and Colson, brilliantly acted - I could watch their performances all day. The whole Lector/Clarice thing gets a bit tired between the two younger protagonists, though.

The pilot started with a bang and then it was a hell of ride right to the very end with the series finale.

Definitely look into Justified. It's my favourite show by far, although the start is a little rough when it picks up it really gets going. Since it's based off Elmore Leonard work, it's got some of the better dialogue going around as well.

Agreed - loved Justified. Also liked Banshee although S3 wasn't as good as S1 and S2. Hoping S4 gets better as it is set up nicely

Orphan black is pretty good.

my top 3 would be breaking bad, the shield and GOT.

Anybody seen.Z nation? If so any good?

Yep just finished binge watching S1 and S2 of Orphan Black. Tatiana is excellent in the lead - very believable in all her roles!!

GOT, Breaking Bad, SOA, Banshee, Justified, Walking Dead, Boardwalk Empire were/are all great shows

I have all of Z Nation but not watched yet....

She does a awesome job! Tough gig.

I forgot about boardwalk empire, enough good one.

haven't seen justified but ill watch it next seeing as everyone here rates it.

Daredevil was fine until Garner was introduced, then it became a staged descent from a rather dilapidated roller coaster where 2 kids and a dog fell out the back somewhere but no one noticed because lookit, blind man choreographing and wanting booty AT THE SAME TIME! Electra should go in the same category as Catwoman, where someone went "what we need in this comic book adapted movie is a strong female lead... let's put her in lingerie so preteens get aroused." and bad decisions were made by all.

I would guess the end, if at all, they're still setting up and IMO, they'll introduce Night Nurse (I think properly, but then, I might be reading too much into it) before to tie into AKA Jessica Jones.

Walking Dead was ruined for me since I had already read up to about 160 of the comic run, so to me it's just another zombie serial, but then I can't exactly suspend belief in such things either since I look at zombie flicks and go "it's amazing how insects and ants allow these survivors to survive" because yeah, ants and mozzies would screw all the plans of all the peeps.

There's a little mini series called Gangland Underworld which I highly recommend. Only six episodes but all very intense. It's about a big drug dealer who gets busted and to avoid jail time has to infiltrate a bikie gang. Highly, highly recommend.

Ugh, I know, it irritates the crap out of me. The constant insistence on taking strong female superheroines, and degenerating them to simplistic caricatures in a skimpy outfit is just so darn frustrating. That is why I really thought Sif was well done in both the Thor movies - granted, she's a minor character and so didn't get much character development. But she was as tough and interesting as the Three, for example. And while Jaimie Alexander is a very beautiful woman, that wasn't what made her awesome - what made her awesome was her nobility, strength, and ability to match it with the best of them.

You guys want strong female characters? Mad Max: Fury Road.

Why you all havent seen it yet is MADNESS.

I wouldn't exactly view Sif as a minor character, she is the Asgardian would be wife of Thor without the whole Jane Foster choice being there, as well as Warriors 3 and lady Sif putting her on par with the frontline Asgardians, for mine she suffered the same thing Skye did in SHIELD recently, in that her set up was less than ideal and probably sent a mixed message, unlike Skye though, she doesn't have a 5 minute clip of her being a complete badarse to make people sit up and pay attention that, both Sif and Daisy Johnson aka Quake, can and do make a lot of people and things hurt and die.

Catwoman was simply a poor choice for a movie, she is not a main, she is a support, a thief, a teammate, she needs a lead to work off, Electra is the same as she does not have the same gravity as say Gamora who can be a lead since cosmic shit > mystic shit simply due to the variables. Sif could work in a way as a lead, but won't since her character is always attached to Thor and the Warriors 3.

The Wire is the Don Bradman of TV imo. Just an order of magnitude better than anything else I've ever seen. Breaking Bad is maybe a Viv Richards on that scale. Haven't seen Fargo or True Detective though, I'll put em on the to watch list.

agree on the wire. best ive seen

Yeah, I meant in the Thor movies, she and the Three are rather minor, compared to Thor, Loki, Oden, and Jane.

Got to spend a little time with Colin Sylvia on Saturday (he made a one-off appearance at my local club in Templestowe). He's a ripping fella, would be great to party with, but you wouldn't want him at your AFL Club...could understand why Ross axed him. That said, i really hope he comes back for another game or 2 (he's off to Mildura or somewhere) because he's a gun at that level!!
