I like the current flag.
And even though i understand people saying "we cant change it cos our grandfathers fought & died for that flag" ( mine included) .
I gotta admit i wouldn't be opposed to getting the Union Jack off it.

I like the aboriginal flag but I'm not sure if i want it just whacked in the corner like this

I thought he was famous (infamous) for once calling it Invasion day in a speech. But i just had a look and cant find any proof to back that up.

Each to their own.
I wouldnt like a wholesale change to the flag, just the union jack bit.
But i understand your view cos im one of the few who love our national anthem and cant understand why some peeps want that changed.

We have had a lively family discussion this morning about changing the date of Australia day, I feel for our indigenous people not being able to celebrate today.
I think we become a republic and celebrate Australia day on the date our republic is ratified.

And even though i understand people saying "we cant change it cos our grandfathers fought & died for that flag" ( mine included) .
I gotta admit i wouldn't be opposed to getting the Union Jack off it.

I like the aboriginal flag but I'm not sure if i want it just whacked in the corner like this

But i wouldn't mind some type of similar emblem put there that pays homage to our sunburnt country & its original people.

Also, is not invasion day, invasion day would be the many times before that forgeiners came by this land and went "I dub thee random land mass of a galaxy far far away", as opposed to the English turning it into a penal colony and claiming ownership, as this occurred some 100 odd years before the first fleet. The indigenous population wants to be pissy and claim invasion day, it's sometime in 1644 (from memory) and they can blame Able Tasman for it and the Dutch. All this "but but, white fella and guns ZOMG!" is stupid.

Also, flags fine, anything gets changed it's the anthem, it's arse and no one really remembers the second verse anyway. It's the red headed stepchild of the anthem.

On Second though, the flag should be a roo with a smoko, knife in one hand, boxing glove holding a gumleaf in the other fending off a koala drooling. The anthem can be a remixed version of Blinky Bill & Skippy. Then no one can complain, but it'll be so bad it'll be good.

I love our song. And that almost mythical 2nd verse that 97% of the nation has never heard is my favourite part


* ok, Grandad may not have really died for that flag or anthem.
He actually drowned in a vat of beer while working at C.U.B in a work place accident.
Embarrassingly there was video surveillance footage of him climbing out for a pee 3 times then jumping back in

It is one day, just one day, that celebrates that I'm Australian, you're Australian, they're Australian and it's a bloody great country to be in.

Are they not Australian? Is the colour of their skin more important to them than celebrating that we're all Australian, we all love the joint and we're, most of us anyway, proud to be here.

I cant understand why that hasn't happened already 7 pointed star are well thought out but at this point i think we are the only country left that effectively uses a british naval flag.
An addition that recognises the first people seems like common sense to me.
Anyway Australia day should be feb 8 when the female convicts arrived everyone got drunk at ate well and had a mass orgy
