It's $2. It's not even up to them if you book a ticket online with ticketek no matter what for you pay a booking fee. Why not send the email to ticketek instead of wasting the clubs time with emails like that.
Well for a start get you facts right. It is 2.70. But if you happened to read my post that is not the issue.
The issue is that I have paid for a membership and a reserved seat for 11 games.

I am now forced to pay more for a product I have already fully purchased.

Considering you don't comprehend to well, I will give you an example.

You purchase a ticket to a movie at the box office for say $20. When you get to the theatre the usher says you have to pay $5.00 more to get in.

Oh and this is the clubs problem. I bought the product from them not from the booking agency.

If you don't understand the problem don't comment

Anyone needing a new pair of wheels for the coming season, I've got a pair going cheap. Diadora DD-Elevens.

Worn once on the lush surface at Filth Park and did not trouble the statisticians.

Size 10.5 US - or 10 UK if you prefer - PM me for details.

I understand that it's the "principle" of it but to me it just sounds like complaining over something extremely trivial. How bout we just cop the $2.70 and save a club that's millions of dollars in debt a little bit of money?

mate your argument here is lost if you start attacking people

I agree that the $2.70 is a trivial amount of cash but it's annoying that the AFL just pass the fee straight on to the fans and we'll just cop it.

More annoying than the $2.70 is that we've got to log on and book it, for multiple people to sit together etc...it's a going to be a bit of a pain in the arse. Surely the club is able to come up with some kind of plan with the venue to just reallocate a similar seat?

Hope they send another reminder email the day before or something like that, otherwise I'll forget.

How's about we don't.
Unless the club can show me where in renewing my membership that I would have to pay more than the advertised price for my membership and reserved seat, it is an illegal practice.
What's next? We pay our membership and reserve seating in good faith and the club decides they will put on a $5 entry fee on all home games?

Thin edge of the wedge.

The AFL is effectively price gouging, up to tens of thousands of dollars on prepaid members.

Give me one rational reason why I should pay one cent extra after purchasing a product of 11 home games and a reserved seat?

You either better have been the star of the park with boots like those or had razor honed sledging skills. ;)

The latter in spades.

Plus they were the last pair, so clearance prices.

I hope people do complain or the AFL will make this stupid system a permanent feature. They can **** off. I would prefer them to leave the whole thing alone. If they want to offer up cheap tickets to the crap games fine.

I think this extra money was for Ticketek not for attending the game. By the way the money you are talking about is a club decision not an AFL decision. Not many clubs are going to do it. I doubt we will. The pies have already said no.

Because it effectively voids pre-existing invoices in the process.

GA memberships have subject to capacity as a stipulation, it is a reason why 2 hours before the game I was in a seat, because the Pies can fill it, Blues can fill it, Bombers can fill it and etc, whereas Freo couldn't so i could rock up 5mins before the bounce.

Reserved seat's do not have this stipulation, if you have paid and entered into a contractual agreement with an entity they cannot pass through any further increases to you without amending that invoice, or gaining your acceptance to add those additional charges. $2.70 or $263.40 makes no difference, it is an increase that has not been agreed upon by reserved seat members who have not specifically accepted the increase.

They can gouge the GA members, since again it's subject to capacity, but if the club guarantees you a seat as part of your invoice they can't then change those conditions after agreement has been penned without approval.

So after 20 years I think I've finally gotten over our '97 GF loss as I watched the full replay of the game yesterday.

Some say we choked, gave it away, etc but from what I saw our first half was good, and our second quarter was our best of the day, but we never led by more than 17 points. We led 43-26 at one stage in the second and never extended the lead. We were very shaky early on with the Crows peppering the goals and kicking 4 straight behinds (Justin Peckett was kicking out from full back during that flurry of shots so he must've been nervous as anything), but as the game went on we eased into it and our speed on the wings with Aussie Jones and Matty Lappin was damaging in the first half. Barry Hall was instrumental in the second quarter with a quick fire string of three goals extending our lead to that game high of 17. I thought we should have been more in front at half time having had more of the ball but a few wayward shots from Andrew Thompson and Rod Keogh only had us up 13 at HT.

Peter Caven put the Crows in front during the middle of the third term and they never lost the lead from then on. His goal was a real turning point and the run off half back from McLeod and co was just too damaging for us. Malcolm Blight moving Jarman to the forward line in the second half really opened us up and Jamie Shanahan had no real luck in stopping him.

Nicky Winmar clearly wasn't himself, having lost his father the day before. You could just tell he was off during the game, and at the time of watching it back in '97 I don't remember knowing the full extent of what Nicky was going through. Watching the replay yesterday made it really clear - usually Nick was silky smooth and polished with the ball but he butchered it on occasion throughout the game and couldn't shake his opponents. He did kick a really classy goal in the first half however.

Harves had about 35-36 touches of the pill and ran himself ragged. Poor bloke was throwing up at quarter time. Banger was always known for his gut running and it was on display in that game lol.

It's a real shame that Matthew Young, Joel Smith and Spida Everitt missed the game but in saying that Tony Modra didn't play either.

All in all it was a real eye opener to watch, after 20 years my recollections of the game have been muddled and forgotten over time. I initially had thought we held a bigger lead over the Crows in the first half and gave the game away after half time but it was a slog throughout and it was just a case of the better team having won on the day. Having watched the replay I am not as frustrated/upset over the result anymore. We definitely had our chances but by no means did we let the game slip. Great coaching by Blight and a more intense Adelaide in Q3 and Q4 was the difference.

Not my intention to burst anyone's bubble as we near this upcoming year with opening up some old wounds but I had to get it off my chest! Lol

You are a brave man, I don't think I could watch it again just yet.
At half time I said to my wife of the time "we are screwed, they are playing better than us, we've just taken better advantage", I then went to the whiskey cabinet. Ended up in hospital with alcohol poisoning that night.

Well done! As you know I am still stuck in 1991 but having watched that Elimination Final loss to Geelong my next step is to watch the Grand Finals. Not yet though. Maybe when we are sitting in the 8, ready to play finals again.

I remember it was said at the time that one of Adelaide's tactics was to knock Harvs over each time he got the ball so he couldn't continue running and join in the play again further up the ground.

Also at Moorabbin the following day when Stan brought all the players up on stage he said something along the lines of ... when the history of this Grand Final is written, Nicky Winmar will be remembered for just getting onto the ground.

I didn't know the weight Nicky carried that day until after the game nor Stewie's mental toughness to play either. We didn't win but the efforts of our players should not be devalued or forgotten.

Geez. I wasn't completely done with the game until Jarman snapped his 6th goal over his head with about 7 minutes left in the 4th. I always held out hope, probably with plenty of blind faith, that we could come back and still take it. The lead got out to 32 points and then it went basically goal for goal in the 4th...as I said though it's no fault of the players, they didn't lay down and let the Crows run all over them, it was more of a lengthier turnaround over an entire second half. A real arm wrestle to take the game back from us.

Great post mate. For the past 20 years I held....not anger, but probably frustration that the guys didn't come through for us. I was very emotional after the game in '97 and obviously couldn't watch the replay until 20 years on...so it did hurt, it's one of the only games that I said I'd never watch again but I just had to sit down now in the clear light of day and take the game for what it was. We may have been favorites but we were favorites in 2009 as well. It doesn't mean anything. You get to GF day and WHOEVER you play is going to be a great side, they wouldn't be there otherwise.

To be honest with you I heard Nicky's dad had died but the media coverage and overall build up to the game/storylines weren't anything compared to what it is now. So I overheard his father had passed but it never really hit home to me until I watched the game last night as I can feel for what he was going through as my father has passed since then. It's a credit to him that he didn't want to let his teammates down and took the field.

Loewey talks about it in a bit of detail in this interview he did with Mike Sheahan back in 2014 - - and again I had no clue the extent of it until now.

If you guys think you can sit down for 2 hours and watch the game, then please do so. I'm sure we all have mixed views on how we think we performed, if we should have won the game, etc. So sitting down and watching it in it's entirety for what it is will IMO do you wonders.

The next one on the list is the 2004 prelim against Port, and then the 2009 GF...I don't think I'm ready for either just yet.

Great summary. I don't feel anger either. It is definitely disappointment and frustration. The teams that got us into finals and especially the Grand Final since '66 were special teams. They got us very close!

If it was easy, it wouldn't be worth winning!

Exactly right :thumbsu:

I've re-watched '97 once, since I was 12 when it was a thing and didn't really "get it" at the time since still developing, it just made me angry, not at us, but at the Crows. I don't blame them at all, it's not their fault, but by the end of it I wanted to punch the TV because I just felt robbed, my inner child coming through.

I've re-watched '09, but I cannot finish it, I still break down into tears.

I don't watch the prelims and otherwise when we could have, that's just, that's just sadistic punishment and I would end up hating footy.

To be honest, the bigger disappointments after losing 97 and 09 was the false expectation that we would automatically go one better the next year.

GF1 2010 still hurts the most because that's the closest we've come... 09 a close second.

For those few fleeting minutes after BJ goaled and put us in front.. it was finally sinking in that we might just really win one. What a feeling. Fans looking at each other in disbelief that maybe, just maybe we would finally have our fairytale after all those years of suffering. It would have been nuts at the G had we pinched it with hugs and tears and God knows what else.

people have to remember that in 97 some bloke called Neil Craig was a visionary in introducing heavy loads and tapering... ahead of it's time. The Crows over ran Footscray in the prelim and did the same to us. Their self-belief must have been incredible.

In the end, their star power outdid ours with guys like Heatley going missing, Nicky's dad... and if I was told correctly, Bucket's sister attempted suicide that week also. I might be wrong on that one.

we were out coached on the day with rumours to the effect that Stan just froze in the box in the last, and that he told players that anyone who went the knuckle in the first would be dragged. when they toweled up Banger, our boys should have flown the flag and knocked a few out IMO like the Hawks did in 89. we sat there waiting for guys like Hall and Keogh to state their intent but nothing happened.

Oh well...

The 2010 hurts the most for me. I went to both GF1 and 2, sat in the Saints cheer squad for GF1 and hugged and celebrated with people I didn't even know when BJ took that mark/kicked the goal.

GF2 I was up on the 3rd level just above the Saints end and just coming into the G on that day I felt it would be a miracle if we were to get up. Just the way the day had panned out, sitting in the back of the G, having known that GF1 was our best chance etc.

I remember after the siren went in GF1 the fans didn't know what was going on. I initially thought there would be extra time to determine the winner and if that rule had been in place I think we would've run over the top of them, but when the PA came over the ground and the players headed into the rooms I felt sick in the guts knowing what we'd need to muster the following week.

All in all though at least we got to experience what GF day was like. Imagine the Doggies supporters...

Spider was a huge loss but........
When the going got tough we needed our enforcer to stop the crap. Big Lazer wouldve flown the flag for Banger.
Sure the Crows were missing a few quality players as well.
But take your number 1 and your number 2 ruckman out of a GF and your pushing it so far up hill it aint funny.

Unfortunately your correct about Buckets situation. Huge effort by the man just to get up and play.
