I actually think Careless Whisper is an incredibly well-written pop song, and I say that as a up-myself serious ex fitzroyalty music type. He was a great performer and a really good songwriter, a true artist. Sadly like so many artists he seemed incapable of living a life conducive to health and stability. A real pity.
Sorry mate but anyone who came up with the lyric "guilty feet have got no rhythm" deserves everything they get.

Up until my mid 30s I always thought he was singing "guilty feeling gotten on the river". I always wondered what he was up to on that river.

The actual lyrics make a bit more sense!

Older was his best work. Some great dance tracks like Freedom 90 and Just too funky.

Freedom was a really important song, too, for loudly voicing the exploitative conditions record companies have over musicians.

I'm too much of a snob to be able to handle his music but it's still sad that he died so young, I can still remember girls singing Careless whispers on a school camp though so as a kid in the 1980s it was a bit of a soundtrack to life band.

Got my first ever pash to careless whispers on the dance floor at a blue light disco :)

Do you think we have time?

These are the days of the open hand
They will not be the last
Look around now
These are the days of the beggars and the choosers

This is the year of the hungry man
Whose place is in the past
Hand in hand with ignorance
And legitimate excuses

The rich declare themselves poor
And most of us are not sure
If we have too much
But we'll taking our chance to say
I sang twenty years and a day
But nothing changed
The human race found some other guy
And walked into the flame

It's hard to love
There's too much to hate

Worst lyrics ever:

I don't want to see a ghost
That's the thing I fear most
I'd rather have a piece of toast...

No says the Doc but you're upsetting the people in the waiting room.

"I need to take your pulse"

Hear the lark and harken
To the barking of the dog fox
Gone to ground

I love P.F.
but sometimes Roger got a bit too full of himself:p
I liked the simplicity of Daves influence.
But this is a conversation that could spiral into a 20 page debate if theres any Floyd nuts on here so ill quit now:D
