I can't imagine they were paying the line workers that money. My brother in law worked at a tool hire company while he studied at uni and was on less at Holden as a graduate engineer with a dual commerce engineering degree. It sounds like crap to me unless they were operators of the computerised equipment that is actually very much a programming job and as such a specialised job. When I was young I studied furniture design and did a further course in setting up large scale manufacturing plants and while they eliminate all the workers someone has to set the systems and in furniture it's pretty much converting CAD on to flat panels. Cars are a lot more complex and would add further dimensions to the same processes.

Like i said, they kept their overheads low, but their direct costs were high. Building cars is simple. All the work is in the designing.

Ok this is a random thread so ive a random complaint.
My train trip to work is under 2 hrs. But not by much.
Now in the mornings its free co's i scan off before 7oclock:thumbsu:
Then coming home it cost me $4:10:thumbsu:
So thats pretty cheap:thumbsu:
BUT!!!! If the trains F*** up and get delayed or cancelled or break down ( like happend to me yesterday). And because of this poor service my trip goes over the 2 hr mark i then get charged $8:20 insteado_O
Now i know problems happen. Thats just life.
But im finding it hard to get my head around the fact that if their service runs smoothly i get charged. BUT if their service runs badly i get charged doubleo_Oo_O
Thats like saying to Mowman " how much to cut my lawn".
And he says" ill charge you $50 to do a good job and $100 to do a shit job" .
:drunk::drunk:
Ok my childish grudge against Metro Trains has moved on to the next level.
Ive sent "Not Happy Jan" complaint E-mails now.
I refuse to let it go.
Im not stopping untill they give me my money back or let me ride up front with the driver:D.
If all else fails look for a naked* man chained to the train tracks on the news.

*dont really need to be naked but meh! Why not:thumbsu:

For those of you with the AFL Live App, just be aware that Telstra upgraded this thing in the last few days.
If you had already updated to 2017 and you log in now you are going to face a very confusing couple of moments.
This is what you do (memory permitting given I did this a couple of hours ago):
When you click on the app you will be confronted with a completely new format.
First page: it will ask you to select your team
Second page: it will ask you if you will allow push notifications, and allow the app to location track you.
Third page: it will ask you to select if you are a Telstra mobile customer (you get the app for free or, if you want to purchase the app or, if you want neither (the selection field is actually "No Thanks").

If you have already paid for the 2017 access, and you have activated the app, select "No Thanks".

This will take you to a log in page where you complete your login details and password. This will give you access to the app that you had previously - except now it looks different.

What kind of stupid ticketing system charges for time rather than distance?
Are they freaking taxi trains or something?
Catch an Uber train instead.

Random Grumpiness #1:

Why do web designers insist on changing the appearance and functionality of their sites?
To justify their existence, or is there some other obscure functional reason that is hidden from the rest of humanity?

This is the IT equivalent of marketer's rebranding.

That little trick was devised by Brent Smythe and his buddy, Barry, way back in the 80's as a way to get the dumb struck client to fork out another $200k on a media spend that Brent creamed 15% off the top.
Paid for Brent's two door yellow Roller.

Damn I thought it was just me.
I found Ebay easier to use 8 years ago.

I see the evolution of websites much like the evolution of our society.

Just as our society was once incredibly simple and easy to navigate for the majority but impossible for anyone else, and in the process of becoming more inclusive has now become complicated for everybody, websites were once simple to do a limited number of basic tasks, and in the process of becoming more useful for a wider variety of tasks, have now become complicated to do anything.

Progress, intit?

Hey my 16 year old was complaining he can't use the formatting on ms word because they changed it .

Yeah I fricken hate updates. Apple bring out new operating systems that must be deliberately too powerful for anything over 5 years old so they force you to upgrade to a new laptop. They then change everything so any instinctive functionality is ruined. You relearn the new system to a point where you don't need to think anymore and they change it again. When you buy a new lap top you then need to by all the applications you had already, ****ing clever capitalists.

Yeah I remember buying my mum an iphone when they came out and she only used it as a telephone and didn't take it out of the house in case she lost it. She's good these days but it took a long time. Now she post stupid positive affirmations on Facebook all day.

That bloody John palmer has a lot to answer for .
Marilyn will have to be strong

Planned obsolescence. One of the main reasons I use Linux. My HTC phone has a planned obsolete charger... So I bought the piece of hardware, fixed it myself, then bought one of the new magnetised chargers that are now available.

Hate planned obsolescence with a passion. Terrible for the planet.

There was a documentary about that. I think it started when light bulb manufacturers colluded to put a limited life into them to ensure repeat business.

Unfortunately, people are so gullible to believe that they must have the very latest.

Windows 7 is still perfectly good as is office 10. Then again we all use open office, for free

A former head of "Hoover" admitted that he wished he had bought Dyson when it was first offered to them.
Why?
So he could put it on mothballs and keep selling the same crap.

At one point my wife and I needed a vacuum cleaner, we had a Sanyo barrel type or something, and it hardly did a thing.
My grandmother had died a few years earlier , and we acquired her old original Hoover upright. You could still get the drive belts and everything for it, and it worked ok despite being a noisy *^&#.
A few years later my wife decided we needed a new one, we ended up getting an updated hoover.
Hey it had a headlight!.
But it really didn't work any better than the old one.
Now we have a Dyson. Which is noisy , but man it sucks.
