with all this car talk, i'm getting this bizarre loud knock coming when i go from nuetral to drive. get it also when stopping and taking off. or if i throttle quickly. any idea what would be causing it

The combination of nerves and really bad hang over wasn't so good. You think I'm melty, my wife is twice as bad as me. I remember before we married we were playing chess after only knowing each other for about a month. I sharked her and told her I was shit and then check mated her quick...she threw the board at me and kicked me out of her house. I should have known she was a nutter then.

Is it coming from the engine or the drive train? Type of car? Engine knocks you should fix quickly, they are usually simple but it's timing or fuel burning issues that can cause damage if left.

Could be an engine mount.

The engine is torquing and not being held well.

Is it coming from the engine or the drive train? Type of car? Engine knocks you should fix quickly, they are usually simple but it's timing or fuel burning issues that can cause damage if left.

sounds like its coming from the center of the engine bay not sure if near the auto transmission.

that depends on where theknocks sound is coming from... as mentioned it could be the engine mounts wearing so the movment of the engine block makes a knock sound but if its coming from the drive train area i would get it looked at as the knock could lead to outher issues

Are they the old falcon motor? In the old flacons, knocks could be broken valves etc but at least they are easy and cheap to fix. That's usually a clacking sound.

You need access , you need the control.
For example it can be possible to monitor a system via the internet.
That does not mean that its possible to control a system via the internet.
It depends how the system is designed.
Simple example.
I could have an electric switch with a light bulb, and a light senor to monitor whether its on or off. Hacking into the monitoring system can still only let you know if its on or off. The control side of it is hardware.

There are still many machines that are simply not connected to the internet.

Yes, you're right. Having written software professionally for 20 years, I'd rather we connect fewer things to the internet. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the way things go.

There is a strange "clunk" in the AWD models, which is not actually a problem.
Plenty about it on the Ford Forums.

We used to reverse out of the garage, into forward.... pause.... "Clunk".

Having had vintage Fords that was pretty common too, it's like there was heavy clunk as it engaged into drive.

yeah when we hit Svalbard we have a two day trip out into the wilderness (i say wilderness but Svalbard itself is fairly uninhabitied) with a guide on sled dogs its going to be epic but given my lack of experiance with the cold (im of Indian decent raised in Perth) its certainly going to be out of my comfort zone.. ive been told that once you experiance the northern lights its spiritually life changing so im really looking forward to chasing them down and adding that to my list of spiritual experiances

Hi mate, I’ve lived in Sweden now for over 10 years and had never seen snow before I moved here. Me and my old girlfriend used to spend New Years for a few years at a cabin near Tromsø which is about as close as you could get on the mainland to where you’ll be.

You’ll have a great time. The best advice to follow is from an old Swedish saying that you hear a lot “there’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing” and it is pretty spot on really so just dress like the locals. You can be out in -40 degrees and feel fine as long as you are really well dressed. Breathing through your nose is the norm really when it is cold as it will be where you are as breathing in with your lungs can hurt a bit.

Indoors you’ll be warm as toast. It is honestly a lot colder indoors in Melbourne in winter than it ever is in Scandinavia. Their insulation and heating is just so good, you don’t notice the cold once you’re inside.

What is a really fun thing that I use to do was get in a boiling outdoor hot-tub in -40 and then go out in the snow when it would get too hot. Was amazing how fun it was having a few beers doing that for a while, very invigorating.

Like I said you’ll have a great time honestly and doing things like the dog-sledding is something I’ve never done and would love to. Seeing the Northern lights is something I can definitely recommend, awe inspiring stuff!

Australian builders are lazy as **** in my limited experience, seems like they'll cut corners left right and centre to save themselves a bit of effort.

A German guy i work with was saying they stopped using double glazing in favour of triple glazing years ago now.
Australia.... we have a single pane of glass. They don't even include the screens on your new house.

In General it seems that they quote houses based on the lowest cost construction, then charge a fortune for any minor deviations.
Glass shouldn't be an expensive item, as a material its not expensive. And the technology for making double/triple glazing is all done and dusted.
Double glazing would do way more for the environment than those joke water tanks people put on their new home.

My pet hate at the moment is the add on TV for the power company where the guy proudly tells his wife he's spent 6 hours putting insulation in the roof, but he's made to look foolish because all they had to do was call whichever bullshit middleman power company it is and get their cheap prices.

Sorry bullshit power company. That buffoon has done his bit for the environment and you've done nothing apart from making less money from the activity of getting data from the power meter and sending a bill.

Where i work we use enough power to get a pretty good deal, but at the moment its all under investigation because the long term contracts are up and it'll cost us 4 times as much. We found that we can pay SP Ausnet directly for the meter on a separate bill to the Energy company. It seems the Energy companies put around $500 per year extra on top of the SP Ausnet price for absolutely ZERO additional value. There are also some pretty good solar options for Businesses now.

thanks mate ... im spending one day and night in Tromso before we fly up to Svalbard.. ive heard Tromso is a pretty special place so im really keen to check it out we are staying in the interesting place in Tromso called bed&waffles basically its a B&B but their thing is each morning on your doorstep they leave you a jug of waffle batter and sides.. each room has its own Waffle iron so you make your own waffles for breakfast ... how can you say no to that
when we are in Iceland we are going to the blue lagoon thermal pools to soak in the warm waters as it snows so that should be incredible ...
im an amature photographer so im really looking forward to this trip ..

Yeah all the AWD's have the 6 speed German box , because it came with the extra AWD outlets, so there IS a clunk associated with that, usually only when you first start driving it though. ( and its a damn good box, worth having the AWD just to get the smoother driving compared to the 4 SP ).

Diff bushes front and rear can bugger up , those aren't good, the'll cost you, its a lot of work to get to the front ones. I think nearly all Territories have them done at some time. You can replace them with harder aftermarket ones, but that will affect the isolation of the road noise and vibration.

I still wish my old AWD Ghia Turbo hadn't been stolen and trashed.

Part of me feels sorry for the bloke, as he has described himself as an addict, and the quantities seem small to an outsider to that world. Another part of me thinks what a dill, he is bringing drugs into a country known to have incredibly strict drug laws. He is a supposedly intelligent man as well, being a chartered accountant. If you were addicted to drugs, why not just do them in Australia, with much much lower risk of spending decades in a hell-hole prison?
