einai den kala. :( pos einai oi oikogenia sas;
kala thanks Perse...Can't say the same for a couple of close family friends sadly....:(
Terrible business all round!
Still fecking waiting to find out about another close friend of mine.
The Greeks and any useful info do not go hand in hand!
Seriously what year are we living in? You'd never know by communications over there!
Woeful infrastructure has left the country hopelessly unprepared for such disasters...

Parakalo, aderphos.

Terribly sorry to hear about your family, man. I have a reasonably good relationship with the Greeks here in Adelaide, I'll see a fair few on Saturday. I reckon it'll be a pretty sombre crew this week.

How & why is the Footy show still on TV
Agree...Cringeworthy blokey schtick went out 15 yrs ago i thought.
But clearly not. Their is obv still a market! But personally i believe it says
more about he countrys obsession with anything footy related.
Than being any endorsement for this lame duck!
Front bar leaves it for dead.

Finally after 11 odd years we have NBN...

Albeit a totally ****ed up third world system.

Thanks Malcolm you deadest knob jockey of the highest order for ****ing up our biggest infrastructure project since the Snowy Mountains.

And why? To protect old mate Rupert and Foxtel in return for favourable / biased media coverage of your woeful Government.

next election can't come quick enough you twat.

Swap einai and den around. But well done lol.

And for some strange reason your post gave me shivers. I don't know why. Don't ask.

As for the NBN - Lol, they ended up paying more for it with all the stuff ups they had than if they just built it properly to begin with.

Then we spend millions on determining whether people of the same sex should get married.

Priorities definitely in order in this country.

more votes in homophobia than nbn...

Getting back to Footy, does anyone know how Peirce went against Preus at the weekend? Heavens knows, we badly need a ruckman.

Wish they'd shut up about plastic bags.

My plastic bags end up in landfill, not the ocean.
The dickheads who go and buy a can of coke and get it in a bag and toss it out their windows are the culprits. Not typical australian grocery shoppers .

Bags don't kill Dolphins, people kill Dolphins.
Bring in tighter laws against littering.
BUT
Most of the ocean's litter , the huge majority, is not from Australia.
Us sitting back saying "we banned our bags " doesn't help at all. Stop trying to be a social leader Australia, no-one is even looking at us.

Whats so damn hard about giving up plastic bags? Stop using bin liners all together so you no longer have ANY need for the damn things. Also its damn naive to think that of the thousands of bags youve used in your life time that none of them at some point ended up outside a landfill.

Its really the most pathetic sense of entitlement I've come across that requires the most minimal conscious change from people but still the damn ****ing bitching.

I know the plastic bags from my shopping eventually end up in landfill.

I don’t know your domestic situation but I’m not sure how practical it would be for my family to not use bin liners.

Everything has a knock on effect, if I throw food scraps onto my compost I’ll have more rats than you can count and my neighbourhood will stink. If I throw all my rubbish into my bin unwrapped it will reek in no time and require more washing.

More washing means more chemicals straight down the gutter and into the bay and more use of a scarce resource water.

I watched a show that dealt with plastics in the food chain and it’s affects on our DNA, fascinating stuff. This study found that a high percentage of fish in Sydney harbour had contamination. The source wasn’t micro plastics from
Plastic bags etc breaking down it was long strands from our clothing pumped out by unfiltered washing machines.

My plastic bags get several uses, they line a kitchen bin and end up in my bin.

What do you suggest a family of six use as an alternative? Once we wrapped all our rubbish in old news papers but nobody buys them now and we’re not about to start again. That of course was part of the paperless society which was meant to save trees and reduce waste.

I don’t have the answers but this smacks of the don’t burn coal campaigners, no answers just problems.

PS. I went to a biodegradable plastic bag site and found they only end up as micoplastic anyway. Interestingly it linked me to a women’s/mums petition, I wonder how many of them use disposable nappies just for a start.

I mean how far are we prepared to take this, I wonder how many sanitary products and condoms get thrown out or flushed everyday.

One last thing those bigger heavier plastic bags I now have to pay for well you guessed it they become bin liners then into the bin and landfill.

Glen Eira has started a composting scheme where the green waste bin takes all your food scraps and you get a kitchen caddy thing that seals well and doesn't smell. We usually put a layer of leaves down to stop it getting gross. It's taken away about 50%to 75% of the red rubbish bin being filled. Also my wife is religious about the soft plastic recycling and takes the soft plastic to the supermarket to drop off. It means a family of 4 can get down to about one small supermarket bag of rubbish a week. We don't use bin liners in our big council bin and usually use a bread bag or one of the smaller bags that would usually go in soft plastics to protect the indoor bin.

It's really just discipline. I remember working in Germany in the 90s and they were full on. They had bins with about 7 compartments and they all knew the difference with different plastics and metals. They hardly wasted a thing.

this!

You can also add cardboard to your compost.

Stop buying fruit and veg in plastic wrapping.

When I was a kid, the old man would shop at Vic market and we had those string net bag things...

If we are serious, we'd be more slective with our consumption.

Buy a water filter instead of bottled water as an example.

So we should only do good things when others are watching us?

You can argue that we wont make a massive change in the big scheme but at least we have done our bit.

Yes I still have the string bags it’s all the plastic and crap that comes home from the supermarket these days.

I compost what I can but nothing that will attract vermin.

We don’t use bin liners I use the bags to line a kitchen bin and they go in the trash.

We have two bins one for recycling the other goes to landfill.

Back in the day the butchers and the grocers were around the corner and nothing came home in plastic it was all wrapped in paper or just thrown in the string bags.

All that’s changed with this free bag ban is I pay a couple of bucks for bigger heavier plastic bags.

If we go to the market then it’s pretty much like the old days, byo string bags or you get a cardboard box.

Safeway used to have a butcher in every store now it’s just meat on shelves in plastic, they also had bag boys who packed your shop into heavy paper bags.

Makes no bloody difference if a buy them or get them free , they end up in the same place, in my bin full of dogshit.

Its really the most pathetic sense of misguided altruism that it is the "product" that is bad and not what people do with it.
EVERYONE can easily find crap that is bad if you throw it into the environment. Just Don't. They once had keep Australia Beautiful campaigns. Now if someone throws their food wrapper out the window we blame the food wrapper.

Most of the crap in the ocean is coming from Asia, where if you buy a can of softdrink, they still hand it to you in a plastic bag.
Its damn Naive to think that they will change their ways because of something a supermarket chain in Australia does.
Do Walmart have plastic bags free. I don't bloody know.!!!!!

Keep people locked up and keep dangerous things out of their hands, because they can't have personal responsibility.

It's the idea that we might as well not behave well because no one else does. That's pretty crappy to be honest. Do your bit and you can't complain about others. It's like our politicians used to say we shouldn't invest in renewable energies because China makes more carbon. They do and they have invested in it any way. It was false and meant that it cost us because we didn't invest in either coal or renewables so now have the situation that it's more expensive and we are behind everyone else.

People use to drink drive and it took a long time to stop it because people thought they should be allowed to self regulate. Might as well change the system so that people are forced to alter behaviour for the better.
Other countries are more likely to follow a successful lead, Australia was the first country to ban smoking on airplanes. Literally when I was a kid they used to have ashtrays and you'd asphyxiate from the smell recycled of smoke going overseas. Now it's universal.
