It's the idea that we might as well not behave well because no one else does. That's pretty crappy to be honest. Do your bit and you can't complain about others. It's like our politicians used to say we shouldn't invest in renewable energies because China makes more carbon. They do and they have invested in it any way. It was false and meant that it cost us because we didn't invest in either coal or renewables so now have the situation that it's more expensive and we are behind everyone else.

People use to drink drive and it took a long time to stop it because people thought they should be allowed to self regulate. Might as well change the system so that people are forced to alter behaviour for the better.
Other countries are more likely to follow a successful lead, Australia was the first country to ban smoking on airplanes. Literally when I was a kid they used to have ashtrays and you'd asphyxiate from the smell recycled of smoke going overseas. Now it's universal.

Smoking or non smoking, sir?

In 96 I flew to Argentina and they were still smoking on there.

Ah the good old days.

I just emailed the examination copy of my thesis to the printer. I'll pick it up and hand it in to the University's Graduate Centre tomorrow. Then it's off to the examiners, probably for a couple of months or so.

I'll let you know when it's actually in officially tomorrow. And I won't give a stuff about whether we lose that night. :)

Congrats mate, fantastic stuff!

Update: turns out Adelaide Uni's Graduate Centre give you a BALLOON when you hand up your PhD thesis.

... If only they'd told me this earlier...

I guess they've just been blowing hot air all along.

A friend of mine handed up her PhD earlier today, and no balloon! She found it a bit deflating...

(it's true, though! she did!)

Please excuse the intrusion for a question without notice, as googling has failed me. Who were St Kilda's list manager(s) and head recruiter(s) in that 2000-2010 period when that last contending list was built?
John Beveridge, father of Luke, was chief recruiter for very many years.

I don't think we had a formal list manager per se, due to financial issues and or egos grant Thomas did it I believe when the nucleus of our most recent good era was assembled. Grant, who I think had many positives, was unfortunately not a list manager and there was salary cap balance issues throughout that time and into the start of our current rebuild.

I want to ask a question but I dont know which thread to put it on.

Here goes... How does our coaching staff and selection committee justify not having played Lew Pierce since his one game in 2016, given the state of our rucks over the last two years?

lets see how he go's next week before we start getting too caught up in the Lew hysterics ...even a brocke n clock is right twice a day over the last two years he has been woeful and lucky to remain on the list his training had been very poor and he was not really doing the work to make it as an AFL player ... he playerd well on Firday but lets see how he backs it up

Getting some quotes on shipping the hound overseas. My god. It's an absolute gouging. $5K basically to get her from here to Ireland. When you can get yourself there with all your luggage for $1K.

What the? I'm actually blown away.

Anyone have any experience with this? Know of any other options?

You can't have a dog in the plane cargo bay? I thought airlines used to do that? Surely they can't gouge that much. I think they used to just need to be vaccinated and chipped, or maybe that's just to the EU.

Thanks mate, Yeah will look further into that, the couple of airlines that do do it made it seem like there were A LOT of hoops to jump through, and actually state on their site, just use a 3rd party (who end up shipping commercial anyways).

More exploration required.

It's a joke and considering it is the same if not more when you get back to Australia (think of the quarantine rules).

I reckon it is a big reason why I am still in Europe, can't afford to come back with the 2 dogs and a cat. ;)

Whereabouts are you? The coming back into Australia part is from all reports a total head f***, haha, Eeeeek.

I'm thinking what Gringo mentioned may be on the money -- go through the red tape with the airline direct and should be a fair bit cheaper. The 3rd parties make it seem like a big deal, but really it's just a rabies shot, a tapeworm tablet and a certificate from a vet and you're good to go.

The hound is staying at my folks' for a few months either way, so a bit of time to get it sorted.

I'm in Sweden and have 2 dogs and a cat I have gotten since I got here. My wife only allows adopted animals... just one of her things.

Because Sweden is so developed there are barely any strays here so we had to adopt dogs from Spain . Sure the Aussie quarantine are going to love when I try to bring a couple of ex Spainsh street dogs into Australia:).

But I have a mate living in London who brought his dog over from Australia and did it with the airlines direct. He said it wasn't so bad in the end so I reckon you should look into that option first because, like you I nearly had a heart attack the first time I looked into how much the expert firms charge.
