What the hell is going on with politics in Australia right now? What happened to the decent politicians? So sad to see what's become of the country and I genuinely fear for its future.
it needs a real shake up ... i cannot think of one single politician that you can point to and say "that there is a leader " ...
the whole thing is just a game never mind doing whats best for the country never mind planning for the future its all about keeping their seat or improving their seat ...
the fact we use Humans as political pawns rotting away on Manus just so the govenrment can keep thier slogan relevant is right up there with the stolen generation as the shame of our nation ...
i lean to the greens but even they are lost in the ses pool of politics playing point scoring exercises instead of putting the needs of the country ahead ...

i know other countrys have their issues but wheres our Obama? wheres our Trudeau ? heck wheres our Ardern...

Yeah, but a bit like the saints this year no matter how bad things seem to get we can look around and see others somehow doing it worse than us.
I know we technically vote for a party, not a PM but the reality is a lot of people base their vote on who they want to be PM. So with the PMs regularly getting ousted by their own parties mid-term it seems pointless to have a compulsory vote. A necessary pointless thing though I guess.
Anyway, again, could be worse. America. Lol.

The main board is a joke any attempt at discussion is quickly derailed by posters taking cheap shots at other posters unrelated to the topic at hand. Don't know why I bother going over there

Every graph has its dips and troughs. The world progress graph is just going through as nasty dip at the moment. Might be best for our next Obama/Trudeau to just wait and watch a while on the sidelines I think like Rooey's doing with the saints (I'm determined to bring some saints relevance to my posts, you see)

Where's our Gough Whitlam or Mal Fraser even!
Bunch of populist egomaniacs who would be more suited to the Batchelor than running the country!
As for far right politics entering the game. God help us all!

Liberal party is dead as of today!
We will see a Tea Party like splinter take hold from here on!
Disturbing part is.....
Watch our f#cking cluelless electorate lap it up!

there is a story but they missed it ... they are currenty undergoing and EBA based on the strange way Flight Centre works out their pay scale .. Fair Work are investigating them for this as its not looking as if its above board but that message was lost totally in the story .. talking to two bitter former employees who put they version of events and practices overshaddowed everything ... i mean one of the former employees actually made the comment " if the customer can buy a flight for $1000.00 online and they come to Flight Centre and Flight Centre can get it for cheaper the flight centre consultant will mark it up to $1000.00 ..... " ummmm NO SHIT SHERLOCK .. thats sales , you buy something at cost put a margin on it and sell it for profit ..
people bang on about "well i can get it cheaper from webjet" well i can tell you the amount of times my wife gets a call after hours from clients who have lost their tickets or need an urgent change to their plans or have missed a connection and she fixes it for them i would like to see you try and get Webjet to provide that service.. and lets be honest here the mark ups are not even close to the so called "thousands of dollars gouged from customers" that the former employees mentioned .. in fact half the time the consultants are doing the price beat from the online providers that they themselves pay for out of thier monthly commission (one of the things being looked at by Fair Work) so you screw the poor consultant out of their livelyhood...

Yeah, people love Uber, AirBNB and the "disruptive" industries but they take jobs off people. Using a self serve check-out stops a kid getting their first job etc. The money goes off shore and the companies refuse to pay tax. Saving a few bucks off a fare stuffs up people running legit businesses and nearly every time the driver or other person is working below a reasonable wage. I know a parent from my kids school who did Uber between jobs and he said it actually worked out to about $5 per hour when he factored in wear and tear, and all the rest. The taxi company employs a heap of staff and pay tax and licensing fees. It's actually a shit thing but while it's cheap and sold as a kind of renegade service it will be popoular.

Same with politics everywhere. Guys like Sanders and Corbin who are actually looking our for the people are ridiculed by the media and never let in, meanwhile kleptocrats have free rein. We had a minister stand down in citizenship saga, who came out and said in his departing speech that it was a pleasure to have represented the minerals industry during his time in government. He forgot he was elected to represent the electorate.

They don't even hide it any more. I found this doc interesting and sort of describes the malaise people feel towards the political class. We know it's shit and broken but just not sure how.

I reckon Ardern looks the pick of the bunch. The others are more of the same with a nicer packaging.

I have been getting into Russell Brands Under The Skin podcasts lately, he gets some really interesting thinkers on and while he's annoying and a bit agenda driven he gets some actual ideas people on. We need some people with ideas and drive to come out and start driving what the people want again. Politics had a corporate take over at some point.

Our taxes at work...

They had Eric Abetz who is literally the direct relative of two high up Nazis on talking about all the achievements of the right wing of the party. They were all about all the things they'd managed to stop. Not one thing that was progressive, it was all "we stopped all these things" I don't mind having different sides of politics in power at different times to change things up, but they could at least stand for something.

see for me in Perth the Taxi industry shot themselves in the foot by providing an inferior product ... due to my insistance of NEVER driving if i have had a drink i have been a big user of taxis over the years especially for work functions between the late arrivals , not arrivals, fare increasing detours , dirty cars , smelly cars, arrogant drivers, creepy drivers the option of a Uber is very much a breath of fresh air for me ... i get that the Uber driver is getting ripped off (hence i usually chuck them a couple of bucks as a tip) and i know the taxi drivers are struggling to make a crust but until the service Taxis deliver improves im not using them ..
honestly ive been using Uber for 2 years now fairly regularly and i have not had a single complaint

i will never use an uber, their entire business practice is unethical and the way they treat their employees is a disgrace

the big **** up here, is the government legislated people had to pay the government to operate their business. they then let someone in who didn't have to do that. of course that's going to affect them financially, especially when the competitions business practice is much cheaper due to underpaying staff, not paying tax etc.

the taxi industry should be compensated for their losses. its ruined lives and families at no fault of their own.

oh sure im not saying Obama and Trudeau are prefect but they at least have a sence of being repsected statesmen , people who you look at from afar and say yep thats a leader ... Potato Dutton , Budgie smuggler Abbott , Shorten who looks like he has an extra chromosome, Hanson , Barnaby .... none of these look like leaders none of these act like leaders, none of these are people you could say you are proud to call our leader ...

lol

Check out the uber/taxi war going in WA amongst high society.....

Now its Morrison v Dutton fmd!
I was personally hoping for either Ratten or Mitchell, but as long as one of them can roll the bloke in the middle, things can only improve

I wonder whether #1 & #3 are strong in the contest

see i get all of that and in honesty if the taxis were as efficent as uber and the cars were as clean as uber , the drivers were as personable as uber drivers then i would gladly use their services and i would even pay the premium for that services .. but i have been burnt by poor service by taxi drivers far to many times ... i dont know what it is i would expect the uber drivers with their lets face it terrible conditions to be the ones to deliver poor customer service but EVERY single Uber i have had has been fantastic

its because the taxi's are protected by legislation to be there and the model they operate under. they pay money to be given a monopoly on the market, so there's the first hit on the need for quality. the 2nd is they don't have the user rating system. plus uber needed to be different to find a way in, the dissatisfaction people had with taxi's was it

the answer is in automated vehicles i think otherwise the costs make it prohibitive unless someone is taking a massive hit

Reckon Cho could take both of them on his ear!
Is it just me or does Dutton look like an evil Robot version of Keating!.....:openmouth:

The sole reason that Uber exists is because it a fills a void created by the taxi industry... namely, unreliable and long waiting times, dirty cars, undeucated rivers who are mainly 457 imports and the refusal to take on short trips.

Originally, most taxis were owner driven with a second driver taking the night shift.

what we are seeing is so called entrepreneurs buying up plates and hoping to get a return by sub contracting drivers. It's a flawed model.

In terms of Uber staff, it's at the sole discretion if you want to work for them or not. Caveat emptor.

Frankly I'd sooner take the train than catch a cab.

Uber is a disruptor. No different to other retail businesses that rely on cheap Chinese imports and minimum wages to generate revenue. Morepower to the consumer.

My company has done the same in real estate.

The reality for both Taxi and Real estate industries is that the traditional model in no longer sustainable. All fees were set based on the necessary revenue to cover expenses and make a profit. The end result is higher costs being passed on to the consumer.
