I thought I'd respond a bit more on the UN. It's definitely an old world order thing and the way they try to se positions to bring misbehaving nations in is embarrassing at times. They are a messy unwieldy beast but the options are pretty limited. Would you hand sheriff duties to one group?

I'm a bit biased because I have a cousin who works for the UN as a a project manager and the money they spend they spend pretty thriftily. He's worked in everything from rebuilding Sri Lanka after the tsunami, containing ebola in Africa, setting up camps in Sudan and even building an internet capacity and digitising the nations records in the Solomon Islands. If there was no UN there would be no-one taking an interest and he's just one of heap of people making big differences in some places that are going to be better off from what they do. If people hate refugees then what they do helps stop them landing on your doorstep more than sending them to pacific islands as punishment.
Like anything it’s not that everything they do is bad because that’s demonstrably untrue.

I see it as an every growing grasping organisation riddled with graft, corruption and inequality. I’d like to see it reined in to be honest. I don’t think you can get away from the reality that the strong have and will do more or less as they please. I certainly don’t want the U.N. dictating what we can and can’t do domestically. There they are again with a new migration pact which we rightly imo have refused to sign.

I don’t think in reality their any more effective than the old League of Nations who in turn weren’t effective. Think China and the South China Sea, it went to court they lost and said up yours and continued on their merry way as does the US etc when it suits them.

The worlds population has exploded we can all see when and where just as we can read the projections. The U.N. has an interest in the movement of people and the redistribution of wealth that is inconsistent with the interests of sovereign nations that I’m very uncomfortable with. I have often pondered the resettlement costs of just 1 refugee and thought of how many people that could have benefited in that country. We know that raising living standards has a direct correlation to birth rates so that seems an absolute win win to me.

At any rate this will end up longer than war and peace so I’ll leave it at that.

I agree to a point but then if you are China and the US want to remain the world economic controller you probably crack the shits. Having them having complete free reign is pretty frightening if you get rid of a meeting point. A lot of the old world powers are having issues adjusting to having to give up power and money. In the old days they fought each other with weapons when things got ugly, now they financially pillage or cheat, even take over economically. Look at Brasil, business interests paid to promote a president who is going to rape their country. I don't know how to fix the problems of the world and almost resigned to it being a mess.

True.
I’ll rephrase.
I try to treat people with respect.
Why not try that as an option?
You still missed my point. I treat everyone the same, you're the one so far who's said some people are different and essentially deserving of more respect. I literally couldn't care any less what colour someone's skin is, what they believe, what's between their legs or what they identify as, I care about the quality of their character.
Why not try that as an option?

I think you have confused me with someone else.
I have no idea what you are talking about.

“It’s ok for a man to hit a woman sometimes because women are more aggressive than men” “Women remain neurotic their whole lives after puberty”
“Women know if they hit their husbands nothing ever happens”
“Whenever a woman has an unwanted sexual encounter it’s the man who always gets the blame” “There was a time in history when rape wasn’t even a crime”

These are the words of Jordan B. Peterson, professor of psychology at the University of Toronto, best-selling self help book author, white supremacist, climate change denier, Hitler apologist, conspiracy theorist, sage of the Alt-Right, god-head of his own personality cult, pseudo-intellectual charlatan, and now contributor to The Australian newspaper.

Professor Peterson's latest contribution to The Weekend Australian (Saturday November 17, 2018) is a confused, Deepak Chopra style, tossed salad of words, misquotations, pseudo-intellectual rambling, Right-wing ideological tub-thumping, and blatant lies.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn’s memoir, “The Gulag Archipelago” is the subject of this massive 10,000 word diatribe. At 10,000 words this is about four times as long as anything The Weekend Australian usually publishes. The editors of the Aus are promoting Jordan Peterson as a serious genius.

Peterson quotes, or rather misquotes Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Karl Marx, and everyone in between. For instance, Peterson quotes Solzhenitsyn as saying the rise of Stalin can be blamed on Jewish intellectuals, godless Darwinian evolution, and atheist liberalism. Actually, Solzhenitsyn never said any of those things. These are the words that Peterson has put into Solzhenitsyn’s mouth to reflect Peterson’s own ideology. This is one of Peterson’s standard tricks. Elsewhere, Peterson quotes Albert Einstein as saying one can travel faster than light if one believes in God hard enough, Isaac Newton as saying that gravity is the power of God, and Charles Darwin as saying whatever promotes procreation is true and what is against life is not true. Of course none of them said anything like that. In Jordan Peterson’s world one can have one’s own alternative facts and even the word “truth” doesn’t mean true. Peterson mixes it all up with long winded, Chopra-esque, pseudo-scientific gobbledygook.

Peterson, while falsely quoting Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Karl Marx, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, and scores of other historical figures, sometime twenty in a single essay, also repudiates the same figures in other essays. Einstein is a fake who promoted “Jewish science”, Darwin is responsible for the rise of atheism, and Newton is to blame for materialism. Not only does Peterson speak from both sides of his mouth, he speaks from both sides of his arse.

Jordan Peterson’s headline on the story is “We’ve been warned!”
Peterson’s thesis is that “The Gulag Archipelago” is a warning that Stalinism could arise again if the Left agenda continues. Nowhere in Solzhenitsyn’s 3,000 page text does it say any such thing but that doesn’t stop Peterson from using it as a springboard for this 10,000 word rampage of Right-wing crackpottery: “the United Nations secret globalist agenda”, “multiculturalism”, “mixed race marriage”, “the climate change hoax”, “The United Nations war on the Catholic school system”, “postmodern tendrils”, “identity processing”, “political correctness”, “cultural Marxism”, “The whole education curriculum in the west is dictated by Communists”.

News Ltd gave Jordan Peterson so much space to expand on the neo-liberalist theme: “socialism has failed” in its “utopian ¬vision” because “the poor shall always be with us” "(People) are morally bound to accept the disadvantages of the position they are born to”, "the rich man at his castle, the poor man at his gate, God made them each and every and ordered their estate".

But Jordan Peterson goes much further than the standard, conservative, neo-liberal shtick. Western civilisation has been brought to the brink of collapse because of mixed race marriage, sexual permissiveness, allowing women and people of colour to attend university, giving woman equal pay and allowing them into traditional male professions such as law, engineering, aviation, and senior management, and no fault divorce law. Jordan Peterson is a champion of the “men’s strength movement” and the “men’s rights movement”. “European countries have ruined their economies by giving rights to women and minorities”. “Western values will die out if non-Christians (ie Muslims) are allowed into you country”. “There is an ongoing crisis of masculinity" and a "backlash against masculinity" where the "masculine spirit is under assault"

Jordan Peterson is not simply the latest far right nutter, filling lecture halls and theatres and selling countless DVDs and books with his long and verbose, quasi-evangelical and self aggrandising talks.

A self described “Great Seeker”, Jordan Peterson is part Rasputin, part Alex Jones, part Jim Jones, part Deepak Chopra, part Tony Robbins of the self help movement, and part L. Ron Hubbard. Peterson even called his philosophy “Jordan-etics”.

Jordan Peterson is the ultimate charlatan, but a dangerous one. Camille Paglia named Jordan Peterson “the most important and influential Canadian thinker since Marshall McLuhan”. But fellow University of Toronto professor Ira Wells has written a scathing article entitled “the professor of piffle”, describing Peterson as a mere YouTube star rather than a credible intellectual. Canadian magazine Macleans has labelled him “the stupid man’s smart person”. He may be a bigot, a narcissist and a sick individual but Jordan Peterson doesn’t tolerate criticism of any kind.
A so-called “champion of free speech” when it comes to using the N word for black people and advocating violence against women, “in June 2018, Peterson filed a $1.5-million lawsuit against Wilfrid Laurier University, arguing that three staff members of the university had maliciously defamed him by making negative comments about him behind closed doors” (“How dangerous is Jordan B Peterson, the rightwing professor who 'hit a hornets' nest'?” Dorian Lynskey The Guardian 8 Feb 2018).

His own university, the University of Toronto, formally sanctioned him when he claimed the university is corrupt but has not fired him because he has tenure of a professorship.
Frequently abusive, abrupt and obnoxious in interviews Jordan Peterson once, during an interview with Sam Harris, threatened to punch his head in. Although he denies it, he encouraged his supporters to harass and doxx a number of his critics.

Mad charlatan, intellectual faker, sick puppy, high priest of hate, Donald Trump’s philosopher; this Canadian crusader makes Australia’s own Andrew Bolt look like a first year apprentice at demagoguery. Jordan Peterson will be a regular in The Australian as fascism becomes normalised.

Well Shane Crocker sure doesn’t like him and he doesn’t miss Andrew bolt either who I find quite reasonable even if his views are right wing.

I must confess that apart from Peterson being mentioned on here I know nothing about him although it sounds like that’s about to change if he’s a regular in the Australian. Is what’s been written about him true?.

Seriously I can barely read the age these days it’s just full of opinion pieces often straight off the wire and more often than not full of political bias, distortions if not outright lies and utter rubbish. It sounds like Peterson will fit right in, when the hell did editors decide to fill our papers with crap about the US and trump. We have an election yet it’s taking a back seat to people with a trump obsession, people will believe almost anything these days you just spew it out and people seem to lap it up. I watched Stacey abrams the Georgia gubernatorial candidate she was so pissed she lost it was like a temper tantrum. Earlier I had watched her campaign she had all the Hollywood celebs and Obama she spoke and I swear it was like a televangelist I was waiting for the hellelujah. At any rate now Hollywood stars are calling for a boycott of Georgia, I kid you not the world is going ####### crazy.

Right well that's a long essay to say he disagrees with JP... I'd say he hasn't heard a whole lot of him though just from the incompletely generic things he has to say about Peterson. I just find it funny that the media worldwide is so angry at Peterson and every time they try to smear him they just get more people to buy his books, watch his youtube videos or attend one of his live events.

I think you have confused me with someone else.
I have no idea what you are talking about.
Nah mate you are the one "corrected" my comparison between ignorance of European culture and aboriginal culture. You don't get to cop out of pretty explicitly implying that Western culture is irrelevant because Westerners weren't treated the same way as aboriginals in one particular circumstance.

Peterson spent something like 30 years or so studying exactly what made Hitler (also Stalin and Mao) such a despicable person and teaching people how to not be like him, I'd say he's about as far from a Hitler apologist as one can get. That should give you an idea as to how accurate the rest of the article is...

Fortunately our Tory branch is doing a good job of self destructing at the moment. There's a good chance we can shake them off in the next couple of elections. Of course though the money men will always survive..
For the first time in my life I'm contemplating leaving the country. I'm a pessimist by nature and fear it's going to get much worse after Brexit, at a time when we're already sinking fast. We are moving further and further away from our old social democratic model, towards the American system. Sad to see that, after forty years of Thatcherism, we are a very cold, uncaring country, where the bottom line of the individual is the number one priority. Perhaps a fresh start whilst I'm still young enough is what I need.

Fifth richest country in the world has two million people per month needing food from charity food banks.
1 in 5 people below the poverty line.
Two million children skip at least one meal per day.
1.5 million people not merely in poverty but completely destitute.

And it's going to get worse.

I just don't rate the guy. He's a troll and a sophist when he's speaking of issues outside of psychology, pushing nonsense like the 'cultural Marxist' conspiracy theory. I think he's a shrewd entrepreneur, though, who is getting very rich from books and lecture tours.

I really think we’re all in the same boat, the problems that are plaguing your country are issues in many countries.

Having said that change can be good and you’re right the older you get the harder it is to make that kind of change. Alternatively you could get involved and make a difference, the system needs people with ideas, energy and a sense of social justice imo.

I'm a member of the Green Party, but I could do more. I think it's the sense of hope that's gone for me. It's seems we are so far down this track and the propaganda that there is no other way is so pervasive, that the potential for change is very slight. The business leaders, the right wing press and pundits, the lobbyists etc are so powerful and have such a tight grip on the system, that I don't think it can be changed now. We have became brainwashed by a forty year mantra that personal wealth is the only concern of the citizen; nobody and nothing else is your responsibility.

I sometimes have a really simplistic look at the world economy.
For example Australia produces stuff.
Primary stuff like Food and Minerals.
Other stuff that people value , perhaps more than Food and Minerals ( assuming they have enough food and minerals ).
Add up the value of all the stuff , and divide it by the population.
We have around $US50 000 per person.
But that's actually less than the average wage. In the USA the average wage is pretty much spot on the GDP per Capita. ( around the same as in Australia ).
I figure that this means that either our currency will go down, or our wages will remain stagnant until inflation elsewhere catches up. It also explains perhaps why our infrastructure is pretty crappy.

If we had double the population would we be able to double our GDP or will we just be mowing each others lawns and making each other coffee?

We look for free trade agreements.
If China had a border somewhere near Dubbo and we introduced a complete free trade with them, like the Euro's do, what would be the effect?

We would essentially be equating our economy with theirs. Transport and other factors would not be a barrier.

China have heaps of resources and GDP but there are so many of them they are poor anyway.

If the GDP per capita of China is $8800 and If Australia was to totally pool our resources with China it would result in a population of 1.41 Billion, with GDP per capita of $9600.
I really dislike going down the free trade path. It won't help china much and its going to make everyone here poorer if we pool our economy with them.

So with much of the worlds economy generated by minerals, what is the effect of an increasing population?

Looking at the UK they have less GDP per capita than Australia, but it seems that Wages and the cost of living are quite high. Perhaps that has the effect of pushing some out the bottom and under the poverty line.

I don't believe that capitalism is sustainable , and i don't see any viable alternative.
Maybe Stalin was on the money.

Used to think Peterson was a clever opportunist offering up some
Sustainable alternatives but ultimately the man has sadly gone
Down the road of divisive rhetoric that should be beneath a man of his
Intelligence! So predictable now with this constant anti left attack
That he has become quite the Right wing populist with this tired agenda that
Offers No solutions!

Until the important decision makers can sit down without pushing their
Indoctrinated narratives and see the world in a more balanced caring
And humane way we are just all pissing into the Wind!

As far as I can see for the most part, the old left has lost the plot!
And the ever increasing far RIght never had it!
Extremism from both sides does nothing for any meaningful debate!

Can't watch it? Copied over from Facebook.

It's about all the wonderful things we have done to help the Timorese people.

And I spent a lot of money on those dentures...
I would ask for a refund my man!
You look like a frozen stiff Penis with disturbing pearly whites!

That's the Pauline Hanson and Trump effect. The more they ridicule them the more popular they become. He's very divisive and I get the feeling he's a troll half the time but the people who whine about him are just feeding his fame. He's like the right's version of Clementine Ford.

The U.N. envoy on extreme poverty is a compatriot of yours. If you're interested in what life is like for millions here, the press conference of his report is a good watch.

Xi Jinping should take note, instead of banning Winnie the Pooh.

Yeah, I was quite surprised by England's wealth disparity. I was there during the Brexit vote and stayed in Camden, it's was stark even in London with tenement housing that looked third world and menacing alongside yuppies taking the terrace housing from the poorer people and renovating. It wasn't until I went to Plymouth though and drove through some areas that looked like slums that I saw proper poor people. The BBC was like a joke during Brexit too with constant pro Brexit bias and giving most of their air time to Farrage and Boris Johnson types all day. There was a big anarchist rally against Brexit on at Parliament and it didn't even make the news, it was big and had flares and riot police. Didn't even get a mention.

It was a real divide culturally with the wealthy people seeming to want to stay and the poor and uneducated wanting out. The EU is hard to know what's worse. The Yiannis Varoufakis book about Greece getting done in by the EU seems to say that he likes the idea of being in the EU even though it's a pretty shit body as well. I know a couple of French guys that live here, one is a qualified electrician and he was saying he hates the EU because he can't work in France because there are Romanians and Poles who will come in a van for a week and work for a fifth of the price a French electrical crew will. They sleep in their van and head home with what is big money in Eastern Europe. The Greeks drive to Bulgaria to shop because it's cheaper to pay for petrol than goods. It's probably easy to sell a Brexit to those similarly effected.

The Brexit was probably turned into a racist issue when it has some real financial issues that needed to be dealt with first. The UK was one of the countries who did well from the EU though so it was a funny decision.

It's everywhere now. It's here as well. In our state elections the firearms manufactures in the US have got together to run negative ads against the incumbent Labor party. They reckon the straight funding of right wing parties has failed to get any leverage in the gun debate. I'm a bit the same, it feels hopeless. The system is shit but no-one knows what to do to fix it while powerful lobby groups manipulate the system.

I have had to stop reading about politics because it actually makes me feel aggravated, I used to be passionate now I'm resigned. It's almost like there needs to be a cataclysm to spark any kind of refresh of the system.

Yeah, he's a very shrewd man. We have a right wing commentator called Andrew Bolt, he has done really well financially playing a media commentator version of Peterson. I know a guy who's in marketing, knows Bolt and claims he's a great guy in real life and doesn't believe the shit he writes. That to me makes him the opposite of a good guy. Another guy we know through friends is a right wing media commentator and he was a left wing as they came when he was younger, in his uni days he was a wild man and didn't hold back on the party supplies. These days he's painful to listen to.
