I bet it didn't tickle! Glad you're OK. I have done something similar. I tripped and my shin caught the edge of a star post and did not enjoy being able to see my shin bone

ouch! a star post at least has a sharp edge - I couldn't believe the mess I made on a blunt wooden step - the old shin she's pretty close to the surface that's for sure, N79......
