Ted Whitten in an interview with the Coodabeens c 1980s

I suppose you're first league game has got to be your highlight.

It may change with a lot of people's as the years roll-on

but if you really go back the nitty-gritty your first game is fantastic

Anyway, I ran out on to the ground, and did the lap, the wave to all the neighbours,

and all my family were there to waving to us you know .

I went to my position at CHF and I saw this monster coming towards me
I thought to myself this is not him anyway oil dripping all over him. - Hair !

It was him and I shook hands I said to him all the best Mr Fraser
and he gave me a little tap in the ankle, and said

You skinny little runt ! You watch what your doing today!”

The ball was bounced, and it knocked towards me, and I play in front and I ran to the ball

Fraser said eh “Don't be silly kid”
and I just stopped (in fright in actual fact), and he pushed me in the back, I got a free kick.

It was only 15 seconds into the game. I've got the ball. He said:
Kick this It'll be the biggest mistake you've ever made in your life”

We'll I'm terrified (!) I don't know whether to kick a Drop kick or a Punt kick or what to do

Anyway , kicked a goal fortunately. He said: “That's the biggest mistake you've ever made “

I got to half time and I kept running around thinking

Where's Charlie? but Charlie was in the back pocket
so it was silly to running down the back pocket for Charlie to stitch him up

So come out after half time and halfway through the third quarter
I was going for a mark (you know) running it back the same way as a ball was going,
the last thing I can remember that day is “This is it kid” and Fraser goes me right down the middle
lights went out and off I went ….
