what happened to craig smoker? why, after such a promising '98, did he barely get a look in the following year? always had a bit of time for that guy, he was better than merely the opportunist type.

Comrades - while I could not attend the famous R22 match at the Western Oval due to tennis committments, I made damned sure I was there at the MCG for the Elimination Final against North in 1987. I was sitting behind the Punt Road End goals - thankfully they had cleaned away all the turds / used condoms / vomit from the Richmond cheer squad.

I will never forget the expectancy in the air as we all waited for it to begin. Something miraculous was about to unfold.

And then the banner was raised and Robbie led the team out. I will never forget that primeval scream that drowned out the stadium - in fact, it is still inside me. In a way, it exorcised all the disappointments of the past twenty two years. The wait had been worth it.

The match was one hundred and twenty minutes of pure grace as we hammered Norf. Yes, tragedy lay two weeks into the future but it is still better to experience the extremes of jubilation and sadness than never know them at all.

Biffinator.
