Far fewer home invasions back then.
I think there's a big issue with crime in general. in Melbourne. The system often sickens me with lenient time served for violent murderous crimes vs the years stolen from victims and their families. Apparently 10-20 years meets community expectations for a cold blooded murder. I can tell u though it doesn't meet mine.
Going down a notch we have had police allegedly targeted by African "gangs" which is a first for suburban Melbourne I would have thought. We've had a car used as a weapon twice within a year. Actually three times. That hasn't happened before.
Everyone is angry about crime, but nothing ever actually gets done. Both sides of politics now scrambling to use it to their advantage when both sides should have done better to fix the problem.
Is it a sign of the times that things seem to be getting worse? Maybe I'm just getting old?
You're getting old. Melbourne now part of the larger world and not just a quiet little backwater at the arse end of the world. The amount of factors that contribute to all the aforesaid problems would keep this thread going for a while.
Me ? I don't think things will ever improve. Maybe that's the pessimist in me. Gap between the haves ( in which l include myself ) and the have not's ever widening.
Planet overpopulated, resources will dwindle, global warming, never-ending conflicts, idiots like Trump & Kim.
Meh. Can we make a difference ? Locally, maybe. Globally, nah.
