After a tough end to 2016 personally, 2017 has not exactly been great either so far.

My Dad had sudden bowel surgery yesterday, and during surgery found other complications that likely would have mean death in near future if not picked up as it by chance was.

Dad is in ICU and sure the recovery will be much longer due to the extensive surgery, but Dad and us have been very lucky in the circumstances.

The ICU staff and Dr who performed the work at Calvary have been outstanding. They deserve a massive thank you for their fantastic work.
All the best to your dad mate.

As for events in Bourke St yesterday, Mrs Toes was affected and my old man was almost hit by the car on the corner of Bourke and Elizabeth. Mrs Toes' work is right where the whole thing came to a close, where the shots were fired, and they had dozens of people charging into their store screaming out "shots fired, run to the back" etc.

She was a mess last night. The old man couldn't believe how lucky he was, having jumped clear of the car on the footpath and witnessing others less able to jump clear get struck.

Luckily for me I'm still on hols as I could easily have been amongst that crap any other work day at that time.

What a crazy world it is FFS!

This is on the magistrate that let him back out, not the cops on the day.
This is what irks me the most. The system's flawed. The twat should have been in the clink as a clear danger to his family and society. Annnnnnnnyway............

In the ABC doco on Adrian Bayley last year Ron Idles says that the reforms to the Bail system will work...he then says to himself will it happen again...probably.

The reforms to mental health institutions needed to happen in the early 1990s. But the problem was that the care in there was anachronistic and subsequently they were shut. Integration into the community in community housing has worked for 99.9%...but what our community needs to figure out is how to manage these drug induced mental illnesses in a manner for our times.

Scratch away the glamour of Breaking Bad and we see the horror and unpredictability of Ice. Seen it first hand in Northern Victoria.

Something has to give.

As I read this I was thinking about the episode where Mike and Jesse go to that junkie house and Jesse takes things into his own hands and goes and knocks on the door resulting in the guy digging a hole in his front yard for no reason as Mike got the ice back that were stolen.

That house was similar to the toilet in Trainspotting.

Yep. The whole criminal and justice system is completely screwed.

A major reason why i left the industry for property work.

Best wishes to your Dad and here's hoping that he's fully recovered in time to celebrate our 2017 premiership.

Thanks mate. He's struggling a fair bit now reality has set in, but hopefully onwards and upwards. He's a Pies supporter but I'm sure would be wrapped with us winning in any case...

The issue with judges/magistrates is they can't view the system as a justice system.
It's too easy to get caught up in the emotions of the victims etc.

They work in the industry and hence view it as a legal system. Only way they can make impartial decisions.
Remember the judges sentence god knows how many people a day/week.
How do you know the one you grant bail are going to commit forgetable crimes?

My issue is our attitude to ice and what'a been done about it.
Forget those who jaywalk, or those who litter made to feel like 2nd class citizens when questioned - the revenue raising bullshit our police uphold needs to stop and crime needs to become the priority. How these addicts are treated with more care then honest members of the public is beyond me.
We are so far backwards it's rediculous.

All the best mate and best wishes to your old man.
Thanks mate. Unfortunately last night/today has taken a bad turn and he's now on valium to calm him.

All pretty upsetting but I'm very confident he is in excellent hands. A psychiatrist is likely to be required tomorrow according to surgeon.

Having a community like this is a fantastic outlet and support network for sure.

As for the police in unmarked cars who persued him.
How many police cars are in that vicinity?
They should have boxed him in considering his erratic behavior YET decided to allow him to escape up Swanston to heavily congested areas full of pedestrians with school holidays and Friday lunches in full swing.

I would be pointing the finger directly at why the decision was made to persue him back into the CBD.
Remember he had stabbed his brother and taken his sister hostage. The first thing I would have done was disable his vehicle.
The police do their job to the best of the ability and it's easy to sit here and point, but sadly two kids and three adults have family members who have every right to sit and point.
Hope they take the state to the cleaners.

I want to know what movies you get on the flight back.
The Girl on the Train.

The one about the oil rig blowing up.

The one about the Ugandan chess player.

Snowden.

The one about ending slavery...Free Nation.

Meet the Joneses.

That's about all I remember....they were different from the selection 10 days ago.

On Jest-star there aren't many.

$10 for a ham and cheese sandwich for breakfast.

Dreamliner's are still cramped planes.

Thanks mate. Dad's been very lucky and unlucky at the same time (makes little sense i know). But we'll get through it and after reading reports of Melb deaths and injuries, certainly gives a reality check.

So many families affected by that tragedy it's hard to contemplate what they're going through.

Collected Woof from Kennel today.

Looks totally exhausted.

If we could understand 30 barking dogs they would all be screaming 'take me....get me outta here' because as soon as we went inside to pay they all shut up.

Dunno how anyone lives on site.

I own a transport company. If I and/or one of my drivers makes a mistake and kills someone we would both go to gaol.

If a doctor makes a massive mistake that results in multiple deaths it would be the end of their career.

A magistrate makes a major mistake that results in multiple deaths and nothing happens...they all look after their own!

The people that made the decision to allow this guy to be on the streets should never work in the industry again. Their judgment is completely ******.

Does anyone know why Ebay and Gum Tree are unusable on Internet Explorer but lightning fast on Firefox?
They don't waste their time building their sites for a inferior browser that is near death. Easier to build for browsers that are actually being used.

So you reckon to make Firefox my main browser like they suggest everytime I use it?
