Rewatching the highlights of the 96 gf.

How skillful was Brett Allison. He was so clean. Some classy plays when the game was in the balance.

We're currently all in on the draft for our next tilt at a flag (I'm optimistic). How did we assemble that 96 team - simpson, Allison, bell, Stevens, Archer, Carey, McKernan, sholl, crocker, rock. Some great players in that team.

I was randomly thinking today about how wild it was in hindsight that Brad Scott walked back the rebuild.

We made the bold unpopular decision to let go of Harvey, Dal Santo, Firrito, Petrie, and Wells, and then went into 2017 as one of the youngest teams in the AFL. We for the most part played the kids all year and finished 15th with six wins.

Come 2018, all of Wagner, Clarke, Nielson, Preuss, Hibberd, J. Williams, Mountford, and Fordham have been moved on after only two to four years in the system, and we've loaded up with Jared Polec, Dom Tyson, Jasper Pittard, Aaron Hall, and Tom Campbell. We went from the 17th oldest side to the 8th in one offseason, and have essentially brought our current situation onto ourselves just so we could finish 9th and 12th while never truly contending for finals.

How hard would it have been to keep developing the above names, not trade a pick that easily turned into Ben King for Jared Polec, and continue bringing more young talent onto the list to develop alongside leaders like Higgins, Waite, Tarrant, and Thompson?

Instead, you wait for the end of 2020 to commit to a rebuild, which at that point most of our mature leaders had either retired or been moved on, and to make matters worse, you make the worst possible hire in David Noble to lead the process. I occasionally still see people bring up the 2020 cull as the cause of our current on-field woes, but most of the damage had been done by that point.

The one positive is that I don't think our list would have been as talented had we done the right thing and not mortgaged our future for a couple of twelve-win seasons. If we can lift a premiership cup in the next 10 years, then it would have all been worth it.

Canā€™t believe North fans have travelled all the way to Philadelphia to boo Ja- I mean, Ben Simmons

Stumbled across an " open mike " session with David Dench & Kelvin Moore on the Kayo

Mike asked Dench about his retirement and Dench said coach Barry Cable told him that he and the match committee had discussed his future after a hamstring injury and told him he would be playing the year in the VFL as they thought his career was done. Dench told him l don't think so, grabbed his kit and left.
Only word he's spoken to Cable in 40 years was " hello " at a club function.

I thought we made a big mistake letting Preuss go at the time, but he hasn't fired a shot since leaving.

Marstermind it is a pity that you don't work for the club because we absolutely missed a beat not having Colby as North player 1056 and having 100 players between him and Cunners.

Yeah. Should have told Zane Duursma and Zac Fisher to cool their jets in the 2s last week so we could have had that symmetry.

Random thought/question - is Kangalotto still a thing? Havenā€™t noticed too many shaved heads of late.

God I hope itā€™s been consigned to the scrap heap. Seems to have been a thing for the duration of our sh1ttest years, and maybe letting it go will be the thing that finally breaks the curseā€¦.

I hope it's gone. Hate it.

Are you kidding? I could only separate the shorn players identities from their gaits on Saturday.

There's a pretty damning stat appearing. Inside 50 to scoring shots disparity.

Round 1:

GWS had 36 scoring shots from 60 inside 50s. That's a whopping 60% conversion.

We had 17 from 46. 37%.

Round 2
Freo had 27 from 45. 60% again.

We had 21 from 57...37% again.

Round 3
Carlton had 32 from 62. 52%

We had 21 from 51. That's 41%.

---

We're struggling to take advantage of when we are on top and are also leaking like a sieve when it goes the other end.

Outside of the 2020 pandemic, and the Rhyce Shaw situation, both rebuilds are practically identical. Keep your September free for next year.

What do you think of the 5.10 start? Is this a time slot we could make our own, maybe a half dozen games a year, and it opens up double headers on Friday's.

I'm looking forward to knocking off work tomorrrow, watching the game over dinner wuth the fam with some take out - the simple things! Inthink the time is also primetime between 5.10 and 7.50 being televised free to air and when the pubs are full.

I think Friday night football starts too late. When my kids were playing juniors they needed to go to bed at half time so the time might be good for younger families as well.

What do you think, worth a try, or would it be too hard to get to after work/school?

For TV? Yep. For game attendance? Nope.

I reckon its crap. I'm going to "have a cold so I better WFH" day tomorrow so I won't miss the start. But I don't want to play that card all the time.

A 6pm start would be okay, but then it would need to be a WA game at 9pm if they wanted to make it a double header.
