This too shall pass. 🙏🏻

That reminds me of a story...

There was an old guy called Nasrudin who lived in the Middle Ages and was a bit of a guru. He wandered from court to court thru the Middle East entertaining caliphs and sheiks and whatever.

He wound up in the court of some hard bastard ruler who said:

"I've heard all about you and think you mystic types are full of s**t. I'll give you a year. If you can do something to make me happy when I'm sad and sad when I'm happy then I'll give you these two sacks of gold to go on your way with.

If not I'll take your head and add it to my collection.

You have the run of my court."

So Nasrudin thought "s**t what do I do." Tried to run away, got busted and brought back repeatedly, only to be reminded of how much time he had left.

So Nasrudin spent the next 10 months pissing up, smoking the best hash and rooting as many of the harem as he could. Before he knew it his time was up.

The ruler summoned him and said:

"You have made the most of my hospitality and now your time is nearly up. Will you have something for me tomorrow."

"No wukkas" sad Nasrudin and disappeared into the sheik's smithy.

The following day he presented the sheik with a simple but beautiful gold ring with some sort of squiggles on it.

He took his bags of gold, stuck them on a donkey and prepared to go on his way.

The sheik said "Wait a minute sunshine, where do you think you're going?"

I asked for a profound revelation not some simple (tho admittedly beautiful) jewellery."

"My lord don't worry" said the now wealthy Nasrudin, "if you're ever happy read the squiggles and move the ring around your finger. Do the same if you're sad and I'll catch you next time I'm back this way. (Ie never)"

He jumped on his donkey and headed off on his travels as the hard bastard ruler looked at his new ring in amazement then nodded to his guards to let the old coot go.

Another Roo, Jai, this one third generation! 😁

This shits addictive. 1999 season from our opening pre season fixture at Waverley right through to the grand final.
I was at that game and it was freezing. We belted Geelong and Duck wore number 40 to promote 40 years of Mazda.

Takes a while but once you begin to remember the fixtures and whatnot it all comes flooding back.

RIP Gary Dhurrkay.
Suss Winnie against the Tigers in Ducks 200th.

You forget how great we were. Guns and champions everywhere.

So many narratives.
Duck injured round 1.
We kept getting run down late in games.
Go on to win 10 in a row.
Playing 5 games in Sydney.
Roberts, Scott, McCartney, all miss the grand final.
Rawlings, Dhurkay, Anderson hard luck stories also.
Duck and Mick bungee jumping in South Africa. Wtf
Flakey form throughout the year - with Duck not having all his way.
Denis happy we were scrapping for wins. So long as we finished top 2 and didn’t leave the G all September.

This team makes me question the decisions that led to certain players leaving and certain others staying.
For mine retaining Mooney, Bell, Welsh should have been the priority and instead we maybe held on to others who we couldn’t make the tough calls on.

Bloody hell Winnie was good.
Watching that I will never believe the tripe of hour modern footballers today would smash teams of the 90s.

Our 22 today wouldn’t get within 8 goals of that 99 side.
Stevens, Bell, Grant, Harvey, Simpson, King, Blakey, I’m not even going to name the defenders and forwards who could have a run in the middle.

During this time of no live footy I looked at some old stuff I taped and today I watched footy flashbacks with Wayne ‘the duck’ ‘the king’ Carey going through the 90’s.
Absolutely brilliant and may I say no wonder Garry ‘brownless’ lyon nominates Carey as the best player he has seen. Carey gave him an absolute lesson when he played for SA in 1992.
Long live the King

I never in my wildest dreams thought he was capable of the type of footy he played with us.

A real match winner.
Just miss the feeling of when a player was on and you just kicked it to him and let him do the rest.

Dish was like this in 2011-12 and obviously Duck his whole career - but bloody hell when Waite was in the zone it was amazing.

I did. You didn't watch the last match he played against us? He always had that x-factor about him, when he was up and about. As he said, under Brad (the best coach he played under) he was able to tap into that more regularly, as well as bring defensive pressure that he didn't previously.

The bit I didn't see coming was just how much of a cult figure he'd become.

You add one part Marstermind, and one part pandemic lockdown and you make a monster.
