Or you hope, more realistically

Well I do hope.

But still, after the day he had at the ALP conference, then going from the Oriental, to Distill, tell me that any reasonable person in his position wouldn't have been intoxicated at 3 AM?

Also, no one at 3 AM has the energy to walk from Distill to Hindley to Marble unless they're smashed.

At the very least he'd be lying about that.*

*Not that anyone should particularly give a damn.

Just out of curiosity, do those who were pushing the bandwagon after the assault of Mike Rann that there should be an extra penalty for assaulting a politician not exercising their official duties now see the error of their argument?

I.e Vader, ST, C98, (I'm unsure if it was actually you guys pushing that argument) surely you see the distinction between Foley being smacked up outside the ALP conference and some drunk bloke smacking him up outside Marble at 3 am?

I don't recall making any comment about the assault on Rann. I generally don't comment on SA politics, as I haven't lived in SA for the better part of 20 years.

Personally, I don't have a major problem with assaulting a politician being a separate crime from normal assault. Many states have laws which make assaulting police or ambulance officers a more serious offence and this would be no different.

However, it would need to be proven that the assault was politically motivated. In Rann's case, the motivation was personal (the guy thought Rann was/had been sleeping with his wife) and the normal assault laws would have applied. I haven't read beyond the headlines to know what the motivation was in the assault on Foley.

Nah, just complement it with extra penalties for pollies who are found guilty of misconduct. ;)

Just saw Ponting's reaction to the alleged Cook 'catch'.

****ing pissweak, infantile behaviour by a man who should not be able to call himself captain of Australia.

In terms of quality there in all likelihood is **** all difference between the three degrees (although this is naturally hard to assess at this point with UniSA). Adelaide's main draw card is a letterhead that will get you in all over town and for those who live north of Cross Road convenience!

there is a lot of truth in this entire paragraph. there is the quality of the teaching, and there is the currency of the degree.

It doesn't matter if the degree is better, if everyone believes it is. You then are exposed to better quality firms, better quality clients, experience and training, which are a few years then becomes self fulfilling.

One of the ways international MBA's are judged is by the 3 year increase in salary from completion. I.e. how much currency does that particular qualification have in the marketplace.

Because the world ain't fair, sometimes you gotta figure out how you can roll with the punches.

Adelaide University is hardly ****ing harvard here.

no kidding. but that's hardly the point.

what is also true, is that its just an undergrad degree, its far from
the final cast of the dice.

But attending the more traditional university in a town IS an advantage - it wont turn water into wine though.

NB I did not go to Adelaide Uni and it would have made SFA difference to me if I did.

Back on the Foley thing - did anybody see Ten News last night? I reckon that seems to be most likely what occured.

Anybody going to Hamish & Andy at Norwood Oval today ?

Well according to one of this girl's friends, he asked an 18-year old girl to dance with him at the Electric Circus nightclub (a place not previously mentioned) and she rejected his offer so he mouthed off at her. Perhaps the attacker came from the group of people..

I can believe the first part of that sentiment.

Far more likely is that Foley was a **** to a second group of people later on in Waymouth St and that's when he got belted than anyone being bothered to follow him from Limbo to Marble.

FWIW Foley is way, way too old for Limbo.

Well, it is kinda the point, atleast in the context of the discussion we were having.

Whilst the quality of university can obviously have a quantifiable impact, in these circumstances imo its a fairly meaningless distinction and certainly not worth the time spent discussing it.

NB- Im an adelaide alumni, so im not biased against them, or jealous of their students despite what some would suggest.

Soon as I heard about Foley my first thought was he has finally mouthed off to the wrong person. Violence is never acceptable but was only a matter of time until this man's mouth got him in trouble.

This is what I thought too. After 2am in town you learn to keep well away from any barmy in town.

fair enough. though i think Jo is right when he says no one would really choose to do a law degree in SA at anywhere other than Adelaide. whether they are then wracked with guilt afterwards is debatable.

Foley is way way too old for just about any nightspot in town. Is it really acceptable for our treasurer to be club jumping?

Theres no doubt he'd have had a skin full. The man can sink booze as good as anyone ive met.
