Foley is way way too old for just about any nightspot in town. Is it really acceptable for our treasurer to be club jumping?

Theres no doubt he'd have had a skin full. The man can sink booze as good as anyone ive met.

No, not even remotely.

It's a dog act to king hit someone if that is actually what transpired, but you'd be hard pressed to think it was just a random event.

The bloke cannot read his audience, if he honestly thinks that he can be part of some of the policy and decisions that has come out recently and walk around in that environment without incident (to and degree) he's kidding himself.

The Anonymous blonde on channel ten i feel delivered a measured and trained attacked on Foley. She passed opinion and critisism worthy of some of this sites better but obvious trolls!.Thats the feeling i got!

I have to side with Foley at this time about what people are saying, there critisim, there judgement, there biased standards! I can't side with him over what happened that day at the conference, though that must of been a stressful time/experience (not that im saying he was a victim)

The aftershocks of the Rann incedent was structured and measured (though i do belive that her lie dector test was in her favour, the one supressed from the public) Infeldelity is nothing new, nothing surprising and at times discrimatory the way it is dealt with, but Foley was simply hit, no one is saying why........but that Blonde on ten, can we pick her apart like we are picking Fol ey? Fairs fair! But we can't, she is anonymous. for all we know she could be a crack whore for the hells angels! there again she could be an A grade uni student in law at flinders who is a unmarried virgin who gives 20% of her wage to the church and fosters indigenous disadvantage children while volunteering at glenside!

One minute we gloat about the relitive peacful nature of our society and the lack of need for high level security in politics, the next we get on our high horse about a saturday night common assault.Drive a taxi, ask a copper or a hospital worker about saturday night assaults anywhere let alone the CBD!

fair enough. though i think Jo is right when he says no one would really choose to do a law degree in SA at anywhere other than Adelaide. whether they are then wracked with guilt afterwards is debatable.

As someone who did, and now deals with the hour plus drive every day I can fully say 'meh'.

Who is going to the cricket ? I'm going on Day 1 and also on Day 2 which is sold out! Going to be a cracking atmosphere.

Thinking of the 29 miners that lost their lives today and those they left behind. Absolute tragedy. :( Why do things like this always seem to happen just before Christmas.... seems to make it that much worse.

Seconded. A loss of loved ones is a loss of loved ones, but the consistency with which these things strike around the holiday season is unnerving. Can't imagine the grief they're carrying at the moment.

How long will the Aussies last tomorrow? With Clarke gone we're effectively 9 down. Harris, Siddle, Bollinger and Doherty all have genuine claims on the #11 position, yet 3 of them have to bat at 8, 9 and 10. North's claims on #11 are almost as strong..

It's all down to Hussey and Haddin. How long can they hold back the tide? Can they hang around long enough for the rain to arrive and rescue them?

There's very little rain predicted during the day, right?

My bet is we're all out shortly after lunch. What a massive disappointment - we now have to win two of the remaining three matches, which seems an almost insurmountable task. And England only have to win one more match - any of the remaining three will do - to make it impossible for us to reclaim the Ashes.

Sack them all, only Hussey and Haddin deserve to play at the WACA, maybe Harris.

Ponting, Clarke, North, Doherty, Siddle and Bollinger are a national joke

Watson's been OK as well. Would be nice if he could turn a 50 into a 100 occasionally though - he now has 12x 50s and just 2x 100s to his name. We really needed him to make the most of his starts in this game, yet on both occasions he got out soon after passing 50.

Katich hasn't disgraced himself either, but his achilles injury looks like eliminating him from the 3rd test.

The big question is who should replace Ponting as captain? Michael Clarke seems to be doing his level best to remove his name from the selectors mind, but there really aren't any other viable candidates. Everyone younger than Clarke is lacking in experience (thanks to the selectors' policy of only playing batsmen aged 32+ for the last decade) and everyone older than him is too close to retirement to be a long term option. None of the bowlers have really established themselves as permanent fixtures in the side, with injuries and poor form leading to a revolving door involving about 6 of the quicks. Lets face it, we have a Douglas Adams bowling attack - "mostly harmless".

Personally, I'd give Haddin the job - purely for lack of other alternatives.

Auction off the other 8 spots in the team on ebay for charity, couldn't do much worse than the imposters who have played so far in Adelaide.

Between Siddle, Bollinger and Doherty i've never seen worse bowling than in the last 3 days

I reckon the grandma off the Vodafone ads would have more of an impact at the moment.

I hear we may be getting these guys for the third test

Watson?

As for Watson not being able to convert his starts, I find the talk a bit ridiculous. His average is up to 41.5 now, to go with his exceptional bowling average of about 29. Awesome player in awesome form, probably our best player right now. In fact, he IS our best player right now. He's not converting, but I think that has a fair bit to do with the fact he's having to bowl 10-15 overs per innings and then come out to open the innings. I seriously can't remember the last time a genuine all-rounder was forced to open the innings. I'd love to see this line-up for Perth:

Hughes (Katich if fit)
Watson
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
Khawaja
Haddin
Smith
Harris
Hilfenhaus
Lee (I know he's retired, but C'MON!! :D)

It's believed we'll lose about two sessions if it's as severe as predicted. Maybe more, maybe less.

Such pessimism on here though. Miracles can happen.

I bloody love Lee. Always have, such an underrated cricketer by many Australians; well, by crabby, depressed forum trawlers at least. He had a job to do in that attack and that was to fire thunderbolts at useless poms. When the time came to lead the attack he averaged 23 with the ball. Such a champ. Come back Binga! :D

Watto is the best all rounder in the world by so far it isn't funny. Edit: Shit, forgot Kallis. :D

But Watto's a jet.

My leftfield XI for the 3rd test.

Watson (der!)
Cowan (massively underrated)
Klinger (not in blistering touch but deserves it)
Clarke (may have saved his bacon temporarily)
Hussey(der!)
Ferguson(good riddance north!)
White (gun-captain, I don't care if he is a newb)
Haddin(good touch-not a great keeper,can't get worse)
O'keeffe (shit, everyone else has had a go at the spinners spot)
Siddle (give him a captain who knows what he is doing and he bowls to plan)
Copeland(performances warrant it)
George(good enough nick, accurate, follows team plan)

I'm not including kato in this statement, but nobody else deserves to hold their spot

Ponting needs time to figure put whether he is out of form or past it.
North is gone. Just not up to it. Great state cricketer, thats all
Doherty is a one day player, and only that
Bollinger-sorry mate, you haven't shown anything
Harris-perhaps unfortunate, good bowler, but youth wins out in a line ball decision.

The selectors need to understand that you simply cannot win a test with 5 functioning players. We are no longer a powerhouse, more a middle of the road plodder. To reclaim glory, ballsy decisions need to be made. Maybe it will backfire initially, maybe it won't. But we WILL NOT regain the ashes with this sack of potatoes.

Why are any of you listing a spinner for the WACA?

You need to have a good amount of turn to bowl useful spin there, not one of our "spinners" is capable of even making the ball dance at the SCG. They're all slow bowlers who bowl way too fast, with far too little flight, no spin, and are just begging to be hit.

Should be an all pace lineup.

If we lose two sessions to rain then we might just be able to pull off this draw.

I've been an unashamed Watson fan since he broke into the side and I'm delighted with his form. Yes, it's a pity he doesn't regularly score hundreds, but he's ultra-reliable to put 50 on the board. You'd take that from an opener any day of the week.

Watson's good, and you may be correct in saying that he's our #1 player, though it's a sad day when 41.95 is an acceptable average for an Australian top order batsman. Anything less than 45 says that they're not good enough. That said, I'll take 41.95 with the bat and 29 with the ball any day of the week. I still think he needs to convert more of his 50s into 100s. When he begins to do that then he'll be the #1 allrounder in the world.

Right now that title still belongs to Kallis, who is 4th in the batting and 22nd in the bowling rankings. In contrast, Watson is 26th in the batting and 35th in the bowling. Kallis has him well and truly covered.

Lee has had his time. He used to be great. Now he's past it - he should be released from his Cricket Australia contract and told to go and have fun playing in India.
