Anyone get to any of the Adelaide Bite games over the weekend? Possibly my favourite thing in the world to do is going to the baseball at Norwood. Can't get enough!

I was made redundant yesterday, and I am unemployed for the first time since I was... 15. Very strange feeling (i'm 35)

So far, I've noticed that:
- daytime television sucks;
- not having a phone is a pain in the arse (phone was a work phone);
- big redundancy payouts look cool in your bank account;
- my partner's consistent message of me never sitting down and relaxing is now being forced upon me;

I think the worst thing is, irregardless of how i feel about my employer, I'm going to miss the people I worked with :(

Damn Sydney centralisation of finance functions!! (won't work)

Is all good. Will call some recruiters next week and bounce back. But i may have to cut my beard off, which so far is the bit I'm most annoyed about (think 4-inch goatee).
know your pain - happened to me in 2008!

my advice is take a break for a week, then hit the job markets hard. if you were anything like i was when made redundant, i was completely burnt out from my previous job. not trying to get you down here, but i was unemployed for 6 weeks before i found work (which ended up being entry level in IT, which i was in for 7 years prior to that)

but keep your chin up, something will come along! :thumbsu:

No, not yet. But going to try my hardest to get to a few games this summer. :thumbsu:

Sadly I missed everyone last summer but back in the day, used to love going to Norwood and watching the Giants play.

The CFS is currently attending a fire in at/near Paney Station, in the Gawler Ranges National Park, north of Wudinna on the Eyre Peninsula.

Although this fire does not pose a threat to life and property at this time, people in the area are advised to check and follow their bushfire survival plan, monitor local conditions and listen for further updates on this radio station using a battery powered radio.

Road users are advised to use caution on the roads in the area as smoke may significantly reduce visibility.

People in the affected area are advised to close all doors and windows and stay indoors if the smoke is causing you concern.

Winning basketball after a bloke goes down with knee in the 2nd quarter leaving you with 5 goes alright

The next day when your AC Joint injury from footy 5 months ago making your shoulder feel like it is attached by a shoelace on the other hand is shit...

so a few days ago we got a letter from the council ordering us to have one of our dogs put down, due to his dangerous nature. he likes to jump to see whats over the fence when people walk past our sideyard - the fence is 5 foot high, and our dog can just see over the top of it at his jumping peak. theres no way he could escape our yard.

any lawyer types out there know if what they have requested is legal?

Fight it all the way mate. The lack of knowledge by governing bodies of what is actually a dangerous dog is rediculous. Far too many pointless killings.

What sort of dog?

Not sure on the lawyer front unfortunately.

I like Rotties. There's a couple of really well mannered ones at the dog obedience I go to, really lovely dogs. A Rotty appearance with a Kelpie attitude could scare a few, I imagine it's pretty high paces and attentive to everything near 'its' yard?

People are usually scared of appearances mostly, ironically it's the little hand held dogs that are the biggest risk of being dangerous. My dog looks like a wolf, so I get some interesting reactions.

I'd definately be asking the council for examples of dangerous behaviour displayed and the relevent laws that are being impeded. Your dog's registered, yeah?

rotties are beautiful dogs, ours is a little bit on the hypo side admitedly.

yeah it's registered.

the wife has enquired as to why, and has been told that a couple of complaints have been lodged. we know it wouldn't be any of our neighbours as they are all elderly and like the our dog (as they know if they hear him barking in the middle of the night, something isn't right), so were guessing if it is indeed a complaint, then it's from people walking past. unfortunately we aren't allowed to find out any other information regarding the complaints (according to the council..)

just sucks. he was our first dog, and i'm going to miss him, but i'm not sure if it's worth taking further

Strong disclaimer of get a lawyer with all the facts that you actually pay for before taking any real action and this is not actually advice etc:

But, s 50 of the Dog and Cat Management Act empowers Councils to make the order to destroy a dog in accordance with the Act. S 51 however says:

(1) A council may, on its own initiative or on application, make a Destruction Order in relation to a dog if satisfied that—

(a) the dog is unduly dangerous; and

(b) the dog has attacked, harassed or chased a person or an animal or bird owned by or in the charge of a person in circumstances that would constitute an offence against this Act.

So assuming your dog hasn't done what is specified in (b) they can't make the order.

You should have been given the opportunity to make a submission to Council against the order. Do that calling them out on (1)(b). if that's ignored you have a right of appeal to the District Court.

But again, way up how much you care, then decide whether it's worth paying someone to consider this in more than 1 minute.

What exactly does he do when people walk past? Is he trying to jump the fence and barking his head off at them?

If that's what he's doing when somebody is trying to enter your property - fair enough. But if people are just minding their own business walking on the footpath and having the crap scared out of them- then, I'm sorry mate, your dog is out of control and you should either move him or train him better.

Good grab there Jo.

The Vic government are trying to introduce a dangerous dog law that is based around dog appearance.....nothing about their personality. This ****ing shits me.

EDIT: Yeah, counsils are a dream to deal with aren't they?

^Lawyer's wet dream, the amount of hours that will potentially be taken up in VCAT appealing as to what a dog looks like.

And Dante was wrong, the 5th circle of hell will be reserved solely for Council officers.

NOt to mention the amount of appeals that will occur due to owners disagreement with the assessment of their dogs appearance.

Good reference! I loathe any counsil dealings. Why do we have so much governing sergregation?

Why do we have so much governing sergregation?

**** knows.

Always bemuses me when people angry at the incompetence of state government's advocates getting rid of that tier and giving more of their powers to Local government. Clearly people who don't have to deal with local government.

The real problem isn't the amount of government, but the attitude within it. In my experience the vast majority of public sector workers are not what you'd call 'public servants' but are in life to make their lives as easy as possible.

The second you try and reform the system the PSA cracks the shits and says you're trying to destroy hospitals/schools.

It's all Yes Prime-****ing-Minister.

he's not trying to jump the fence, he just wants to see whats on the other side of the fence.
