I certainly know the staff at the women's and children's are in no way what you describe after the amazing assistance they gave our family a couple of weeks ago. Wait a minute, perhaps you are just using an ignorant stereotype?
 
DOG ATTACKS OR HARASSMENT

Council has specialist Dog Management Officers available to mediate and counsel should you become the victim of a dog attack or harassment. If a complaint is received the Officer will investigate and may issue a fine by way of expiation notice or if the offence is more serious or repeated the owner or person in charge of the dog may be summoned to appear in court to answer to a criminal charge. A court may, instead of or in addition to any fine, make other orders including that the dog be destroyed, disposed of or controlled in a specified manner. A court may also order payment and compensation for any injury, damage or loss suffered as a result of any action of the dog.

This appears to me to prevent your dog being destroyed without a cour order. Infomration on the Legal Services Comission website also suggests you have done ntohing wrong. http://www.lawhandbook.sa.gov.au/ch30s14s02.php

Interesting. It sounds very odd to me that a put-down order would be sent without any prior warning or directions (ie, put up a higher fence) etc

See, this is what shit's me, you bitch about the public service and you get the Nurses and Teachers defence.

I'm all for Nurses and Teachers.

Take out every pencil pusher from the DEH, DPLG and DTEI whose objective is to frustrate and not do their statutory duty and make them a nurse or teacher and society would be a much better place.

thats what we struggle to understand too!

the fence is 5 ft tall, and the dog has never gotten close to jumping it, let alone go someone (like is being insinuated in the letter)

thanks all for your advise, i think we'll be taking it further

I escaped to Sydney 24hrs before he was due to arrive. I did notice (before I left) that the AFP had put security seals on all the fire hydrant outlets & manhole covers along the routes he was going to take.

Would have been standing down the end of the carpark watching him get off Air Force 1 if I had still been in Canberra at the time.

Nah, you're right, I should list every public servant and evaluate their merits individually. This is BF, i feel free to generalise.

FWIW with work I constantly deal with the above departments and keep a list titled "People who are mildly competent". It currently has one name on it. <3 you Francis Hurley @ DTEI

Small anecdote, in November last year I tried to get an Association's incorporation details from OCBA.

I've called them every Tuesday morning since and they've still been 'looking' for them. We've had a Court order for them to produce the documents and they're still being creatively incompetent.
