Nah.. in a nutshell, one half of the country is predominantly Christian, the other half is predominantly Moslem. Rather than continuing to kill each other in an endless civil war, they've now decided to split the country in two.
.

The Christian bit (which there is much debate over the exact %) is the bit with the oil that pretty soon (more than likely)will be sold in US dollars threw US interests..

At the moment thats not the case with a fair chunk of the proceeds going to the other sudan that apparantly has links to the mystical Al Queda....

You must have missed the few decades of rather bloody civil war the country recently went through. They didn't just split to create a shell company for selling off the oil.

Been lots of bloody decades of lots of bloody stuff in lots of bloody places but the ones with oil only seem to matter.

Iraq
Afghanistan ( they dont have oil but as long as we have them oil doesnt come from former soviet republics threw Iran)
Sudan.
Libya.

But there is another link, Britian.
and another,Islam.
and all but Sudan (not sure) use to have strong support from the CIA......

Firstly, the former "CIA Support" for Afghanistan had nothinig to do with oil, and everything to do with the proxy wars between the Soviet Union and the USA.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. There's been nil involvement of any Western powers in Sudan, save for the UN, which is the same thing that could be said of every civil war in the region since the end of World War 2, oil or not.

One country that has raged in civil war for most of the last 50 years has now, via a fair referendum, split in two. The process has been duly recognised by a variety of UN members, if anything so readily by the West because it helps free up more African Union peacekeepers to help Africa police itself.

Never mind this important gem - until South Sudan builds its own pipelines and tanker docks, all oil from there must be pumped via Sudan in a contract arrangement, and since Sudan is on the terrorist sponsor list, South Sudanese oil will still be off limits to US businesses.

meh.......

i never quite enjoy reading right wing properganda...

People keep on talking about a potential housing bubble burst, but I reckon a commercial bubble is about to burst first, particuarly shopping centres.

Many centres and thereby their owners have seen the values of their properties skyrocket. In turn the rents have skyrocketed. This was during a time of drastic increases in retail spending (mainly due to cheap credit). Many leases are 5 years locked in at 5% increases each year.

Its not been close to 3 years of flat or declining retail sales. Internet shopping and the strong Aussie is only going to make matters worse. Today DJ's annouced a 11% fall in sales (guide). SP down 15% (amazing).

This has an obvious effect on retailers ability to be able to afford their rents, or atleast increase them. You cannot have wages going about CPI, Rent going above CPI & outgoings (electricity etc) going way above CPI and have sales that are flat or going down. Something has to give... and those huge loans that those centres have taken out...

Just my prediction...

I don't see how the housing market will go down by a huge amount. I know it's stagnated over the past 18 months, but there is still underlying demand. And, Adelaide is the cheapest mainland capital with high occupancy rates for rental accomodation.

Retail on the other hand......

Increased cost of credit will be the only thing IMO which would cause a burst. That or a mix of that and flat or negative wage growth. Europes troubles could just well cause an increase btw.

Our lending standards were tighter than those that caused the subprime mess and have since been raised further.

Europe and the USA are both basket cases.

Our retail is undergoing changes and some parts are currently basket cases. Food looks to be making the changes needed, clothing and accesories are basket cases till they adapt. Electrical is undergoing change, "x" months/years interest free may limit the damage. Books, records and videos we all know they are problem children. Shops are having to adapt, shopping mall around my place looks like ebay shop fronts. Would I buy shops currently - NO!

AREIT's or LPT and Property Trusts had their crash and may take years to recover. Residential may suffer a bit from credit problems but our tax system and supply and demand provide support.

No AFL matches in perth this Weekend
yeah?
What's so unusual about that?
22 games into 24 rounds?
Was always going to be 2 rounds with no games there or in Adelaide.

Mine is quite a minor issue compared to what others have posted.

Since my son has arrived, I have been thinking about moving back to Adelaide.

Due to recent personal events, it seems the most important thing to do.
I regret leaving all that I have worked for over here but feel its the right thing for me to do at this point in time in my family life.

About midnight last night, I was checking my twitter account and 3AW, Bloomberg, breaking world news, US embassy, MSNBC, Larry King and Piers Morgan were all twittering about the James and Rupert Murdock inquiry with the British parliament and then right in the middle, Taylor Walker tweet "Blue Heelers, just love that show"

That tweet just stood out in the middle of some serious global issues and just cracked up laughing. :thumbsu:

Check out these conditions from the TSL from a couple of weeks ago!

Physical brand of footy as well.......:thumbsu:

some of the pretty boys of the AFL would be to afraid of a breaking a nail down there..........

I found that question by Gary Lion towards Primus about draft kids not wanting to go to port as a dog act....i was quite touched how Sam Newman put Lyons innuendo to the sword.........

I found lyon all interview a bit like a typical victorian holding grudges against south australians and used this oppotunity to sink the boot in when a south australain was down....

but thats just me....
