Bikes are classed as a vehicle and are entitled to their space on the road like anyone else. Treat them like you would another car and you should have no problems. Remember that they are more vulnerable than someone in a car, and also note that bikes are here to stay and you're better off just getting used to them. If they break the give way rules (or any other road rule) then abuse the crap out of them as much as you would a fellow motorist. Courtesy goes both ways, neither bikes nor cars own the road.
PS. Inb4 "bike riders don't pay rego". Heard it all before.
PPS. I'm not a bike rider!
There are plenty of bike riders who fail to observe the road rules though, I see it all the time working in town. Some think that because they are on a bike they don't need to stop at a red light for instance.
I was also driving home down Main North rd the other week and a cyclist was just ahead of me, there were parked cars on the side of the road so he decided to swerve out into the middle of my lane and didn't even bother to check if it was clear to do so.
I would have ploughed over him but I had just recently washed my car.
Except for when you are driving on country roads and the jerks ride 2 abreast. Drives me insane.Agreed fully. Never understand why people are so angry at bike riders. They've got as much right to be on the road as other people and for the most part obey the road rules perfectly fine.
I had that in Dubai just last week.Had an on coming bike in a bike lane wtf?
certainly do, from memory (and i could be wrong here) that happened on the day of the adelaide collingwood game where we eneded to win to make the finals. i remember hearing about it on the radio on the way home from there
Yep, I don't know about anyone else, but we sang it at school in music lessons a lot. It's a very old song.
So not on the jukebox of every local and when it plays the bar doesn't bursts into song?
lol, depends on the Bar, Irish pub they might, depends how many Gen Y'ers were in there.
I put that youtube clip on my mates wall and asked him to do a cover of it. He is a member of the Mahones, a great Canadian Irish band so he said he would add it into the set of some of their upcoming gigs.
If I get a newer youtube clip in a more Punk Irish from them i'll share.

Apart from the fact that they are often doing half of the speed limit (not their fault of cause but it's painful getting stuck behind guys doing 25km up a hill on a 50km road) and have their buddy next to them taking up a full lane on a one lane road making it impossible to overtake them unless you're game enough to go into the wrong lane.Agreed fully. Never understand why people are so angry at bike riders. They've got as much right to be on the road as other people and for the most part obey the road rules perfectly fine.

Has it always been legal to ride two-abreast?
I was taught the same way as you although it seems everyone is a little different. I still remember going riding with my friends when I was around 12 or so and for some reason they believed it was better to ride in the lane that has cars coming towards them rather then behind...Has it always been legal to ride two-abreast? I've never understood why you would need to. When I was a kid riding a bike I was always told to ride behind the person in front of you.
If they're in a line rather than two-abreast they're pretty easy to overtake. Otherwise I can understand the angst.
