Rudd and Gillard should give Peter Costello a call and ask him to come back and challenge for Abbott's spot, it might give them half a chance of staying in power

he's the greatest PM we never had. if costello didnt retire and was in charge of the libs right now, well... the future of the country would be much brighter *sigh*. :(

Not so sure about that. He was a damn fine treasurer.. but I'm fairly sure that having a backbone is one of the pre-requisites for being PM.

Pretty sure he said that stabbie. But of course, as vader said, odds are he would. My thinking is he wouldn't have challenged just yet, waiting for a few more months for Julia to truly cook her goose and for him to shore up his support. She's very clever by forcing his hand now.

What im hearing is that if he gets less then 30 votes he is done as an ALP member probably become an independent next time round.

If he gets over 40 (unlikely) he will hang around and probably wait til end of the year to contest again if Julia is struggling.

If he gets around the 30-35 votes he will likely wait til Gillard gets smashed in the next election and then when she is dumped make another attempt to become opposition leader, though Shorten is the likely one at that stage.

(From my perspective i think he is done, his party not only doesnt want him they absolutely cant stand him.
There must be something bout him that the public havent seem, he must be a crap leader)

We really need to see a liberal leadership change... libs should win next time and I realy don't want abbott for PM.

The issue with abbott/gillard/rudd is that none of them, IMO, are good for the country as the PM. So they can change seats all they want - but its new (or old) blood we need to really lget the country going again.

Bring back Johnny?

Rudd >>>>> Howard >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Gillard >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Abbott
Ummm.... no. Rudd is categorically the worst PM in my lifetime, which goes back as far as Fraser.

I loathed Howard & his ideology, but I have to admit that he was far & away the most effective PM we've had in my lifetime. Gillard isn't fit to stand in his shadow, but she's still infinitely better than Rudd.

Agree with your position on Abbott though.

I think either way this goes it's only going to end up badly for the ALP unless it's decisive. If Gillard wins then it means the end of an ego-maniac, hell bent on power. If Rudd wins then I would assume he will push through internal ALP political reform, ending the powers of such people as Don Farrell a religious dinosaur that the public know nothing about. If its not a big majority vote, neither will happen. Then the ALP will stumble into one of the biggest electoral defeats in recent times (going by polling anyhow)
