Does anyone know how much a cab from Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport to the Melbourne CBD is? Weighing up whether to take the Skybus or get 4 of us in a cab.

I can add to the deceased dog list for this year - my Mum's dog finally expired tonight. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, and I gave him the nickname Michael Jackson (because he was born black and gradually became white as he aged), but I'm going to miss the senile old thing coughing and spluttering around Mum's house.

So I got 66 bucks concession on my water bill and I used 15 kiloliters for the quarter, the bill was still 120 bucks...so i paid at the end of the day 12 bucks a kiloliter..

and i got my rates in, house is valued about 8% lower but the bill is about 20% higher...

BHP pulling the pin on Olympic Dam. $30 billion investment off. $350 million per year the state won't be getting.

That kind of money would've paid off the Adelaide Oval redev in under 2 years or the new hospital would've been completely paid for in 5 and a bit. Brand new good stuff would've been on the horizon... Oh well

Probably karma for the state govt selling out on the Whyalla cuttlefish to the "big Australian".

Cant be understated how significant an announcement yesterday was by BHP. The state governments forward budgets all were dependent on Olympic dam getting approved. We are now going to fce $1b plus deficiets. This sort of incompetence would normally sink a government, luckily for Jay the liberals are a complete rabble. This state is absolutely ****ed for atleast the next five years again. Jack Snelling will go down as one of the worst treasurers in this states history.

I don't blame the government, there is nothing else they could do. The question is what do they do now.

I wonder if there has ever been any thought given to a State run mine. We sell off all these assets like Power and Forests, why not get one back?

The mine could be run by the public sector with out the need for concern of generating a profit required by shareholders.

It's all just a political cat and mouse game.

BHP are banking on the Liberal National Party winning the next federal election and eliminating the mining and carbon tax to decrease some of the rising costs they face. However, the SA Government lead by Jay Weatherill are trying to call their bluff by playing a December timeline on the deal to be signed or all cards are off the table and every bit of negotiation have to start again.

A $20 Billion dollars profit, I can not see BHP walking away from the biggest mine in the world and 25 to 30 years of mining.

I think they will announce something in the future but at this stage, I think they are all holding their breath and waiting to see who breaths first.

Residents of Roxby Downs paid for putting their fate in the hands of that which doesn't exist. Shattering stuff to watch play out, but a chilling reminder of what is all around us.

Anyone watching Big Brother?

Keep in mind, BHP has pressure from their lenders and financial institutions, to keep dividends up; that kind of pressure stops companies spending lots on infrastructure. Very short term.

I reckon Howzat on channel 9 needs more commercials. FFS.
You should do what I do..
  1. Record the program on the PVR
  2. Download to the computer
  3. Edit out the ads
  4. Upload edited version back to the PVR
  5. Watch program without ads.. and enjoy!
Only catch is that I'm usually 24-48hrs behind, because I can't start the download process until the show has finished recording and I usually do a whole night's worth of shows in one sitting.

Or just record it on IQ (if you have it). Wait until it's been going for 30 minutes or so, and then start from the beginning, skipping through the ads when they come on.

alternatively, download it and save the hour and a half that you'd spend doing this..

or - start watching it half an hour after it starts, but rewinded to the start, that way you can flick through the ads
