Showing my age here, but personally I prefer the old British comedies like Are You Being Served? and Fawlty Towers; stuff of that era. That's the kind of thing I find funny.
The poms have always known how to make great comedies and they still do. They just do it so much better than the yanks (let alone the abysmal Australian offerings). Almost all the comedies in my DVD collection are BBC sitcoms.

For those who like Friends, I recommend watching "Coupling". It's what Friends could/should have been - and unlike the US offering it's actually funny.

Then there's Men Behaving Badly, which is absolutely brilliant.

Of the older series, I recommend "Man About the House" and "Robin's Nest". On the other hand, "George & Mildred" was the less-funny spin off of "Man About the House".

For those with a political bent, you'll never find anything better than Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister.

The young ones and bottom are (were) very awesome shows. Mike, rik, Neil and Vivian made Friday nights very enjoyable as a child - and then came bottom and that was still good, but not as enjoyable.

But do agree on men behaving badly.

Haha Barney is awesome, wait til him and Robin get together in season 5, it is interesting.....

Yep, pure gunage.

Do you have an I phone? Barny has his own application you can download?

Another older sitcom I like is Married...with Children.

A best of and Season 1 have been out on DVD for years with the original theme, then about 12-18 months ago the remainder of the seasons was released, but the opening and closing credit music was replaced with a cheap and nasty imitation (Sinatra's estate must have been asking too much royalties for it).

Adelaide United are so so shit.

Should be re-named Port Adelaide Power - were quite good, now having big on-field problems, almost bankrupt...those 2 teams go hand in hand!
How the hell did they go from 2-0 to 2-3 within 20 minutes??? bunch of useless hacks!

throw in 2 red cards as well (and Dodd doing everything to try and get one at the end as well).

I am shattered at what's happened to my once proud club. I didn't go Friday cause I had a mate over from OS, didn't go tonight due to social sport and I doubt I'll be going back this season now. And this is from someone who would have missed all of 10 home games since our inception.

hahahaha definitely sounds like Port now with supporters not bothering to go watch their crap :thumbsu:

Another one straight from my DVD collection. Agree with your thoughts on the music too.

Music royalties are one of the key reasons why many shows aren't released on DVD - or at the very least their release is delayed. Imagine how much the royalties are going to be for Cold Case, which features music from a different year each show (the same year as the murder which they are attempting to solve).

Baywatch and The Flintstones both had their opening & closing credit music replaced, presumably for the same reason. The Flintstones was clearly written specifically for the show - "Flintstones, meet the Flintstones, they're the modern stone age family, from the town of Bedrock, they're a page right out of history...". It's beyond me as to how they failed to get the copyright for that music stitched up properly.

My mum thinks The Nanny is funny...I watch it but I rarely laugh...Friends on the other hand :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu: I've watched the whole series through 15 times (that's no exaggeration either) and know most of it off by heart (so no one ever watches it with me because I say the lines before the characters do) but I still crack up :D hopefully the talk about them making a movie is more than just rumours!

Friends was worth watching just for Joey and Chandler, those two were the most feelgood roomies on TV :D If I could find a way to remove Ross, Rachel and Phoebe from the show and just have Joey, Chandler and Monica it would be a fantastic show.

The Nanny was a decent show but probably hasn't aged so well.

Old british comedies are brilliant. Red Dwarf is still one of my favourite shows despite the overplaying. Fawlty Towers is timeless but I can only watch a couple of episodes before I start to cringe at everything that happens in it

Never could get into MASH, loved Hogan's Heroes.

Nothing will ever beat The Brittas Empire.

Nothing.

Once again, the British comedies reign supreme, leaving all US offerings in their dust. Brittas Empire, Red Dward, Fawlty Towers - all UK offerings.

I don't think anyone doubts that the Brits do it far better than than the Americans, but sweeping statements like 'there's been no funny American shows since ALF' are just plain wrong.

Friends is a disgrace imo. One of the most predictable, lame, stilted sitcoms I've ever seen. Prefer my comedies funny. ;)

Honestly you can see everything in that show coming from a mile away.

It may be a slight exaggeration... but it's certainly true that most American sitcoms these days just aren't funny. It's comedy by committee, with all the risk removed (and with it went the humour).

Thank God the Poms still know how to make good comedy....

The big bang theory, how i met your mother and from time to time, 2 and ½ men are good American based comedies.

I'm sorry, did you just claim that 2 1/2 men is a comedy? HIMYM has its moments, but 2 1/2 men is a laugh free zone.

That said, you'd still get more laughs from a 6-8 episode series of a UK sitcom than a full 22-26 epidose series of HIMYM. It's definitely one of the best US sitcoms currently in production, but a poor shadow of the stuff produced on the other side of the pond.

And what British comedy do you claim are funny?

Men Behaving Badly was funny – 10 years ago, Absolutely Fabulous? Yeah, na – not funny.

Little Britain was comedy gold in the first year and a half – now it’s just vulgar and grotesque toilet humour.
