Where did he (in the first person) actually say it, I mean, him, not his agent or his father or his trainer or anyone else say it, but where did Bernard actually say he was no good?

You’ve grabbed something from Wikipedia – fantastic bit of referencing there, a ton of credibility for truthfulness and honesty with that site. Not.

And in regards to being an arrogant **** who proclaimed he would have beaten Marin Cilic said “I think I should have won” – that’s not arrogance, that confidence. And heaven forbid any 17 year old to have some confidence in his own ability.

Plus, what other professional sport starts a game at
10:20pm at night? NBA? no, AFL no effing way – none, there is no other professional sporting organizations that treats there player such little thought or importance.

He had every right to whine about playing that late and so did Lleyton or any other player put in that situation.

If you actually go to the wikipedia article, it leads to where that snippet came from - a newspaper article stating the exact same thing. Or isn't that good enough for you either?? Do you have to hear everything from the horse's mouth to believe something, no matter how many sources quote the same thing? And to say "where did he say it?" do you think his agent was making it up? If so, great agent he's got there :thumbsu:.

I'm sick of people saying "so and so isn't arrogant, he's confident and what kid at that age isn't confident?" I know, and have been, 17 years old and no one I know (male or female) have acted like that - even ones who were good at certain sports. I'm not criticising him for complaining about being up so late, it's how he was extremely disrespectful of his opposition to say "I would've won if we played during the day". He also could've worded it differently to sound less of a sook, i.e. saying "it's disappointing that the game was so late" not "it's ridiculous" - saying that showed how immature he really is. He's in the big league now, he's not in the juniors, matches are scheduled at times that he might not be happy with, but if he wants to win some grand slams, he may just have to deal with it - the Aus Open isn't the only grand slam that plays games late at night. And since when do 17 year olds, ranked in the 280s, who didn't even qualify for the event, get to dictate when he gets to play? And maybe his opposition may have requested a night game considering the final is played at night.

Key word there, Lleyton had already won SENIOR grand slams when he made his comments, and I don't think I have ever heard Federer or Nadal have whinges like this.

I agree mate, massive piss take on my part.

Apart from the odd player here and there, most tennis players are tossers. Part and parcel of the sport I guess.

Yep as I thought Gen Y me generation, wouldn't expect you to understand the concept I was talking about.

And you never did or said anything stupid as a teenager that could be misconstrued as “disrespecting an adult”?

Let’s not forget (not justifying what he said) but Bernard Tomic is still a teenager who says stupid things....like everyone.

An adult in a position of authority? Nope, treated school teachers and Uni lecturers and the like with respect and funnily enough got treated with respect back. Not a hard concept.

Maybe it Tomic took it behind closed doors and had a calm rational discussion he might have got a bit further. As it turns out he gets invited to a meeting and then when he comes out still was sprouting crap. Didn't learn much.

Whenever I hear someone mention 'respect your elders' I always think of the 'Sunscreen song'.

"when you grow up, you'll fantasize that in your day prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and that you respected your elders"

This quote is attributed to Socrates (469-399 BC) by Plato.

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their
households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties
at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Agree with two out of three points there, but have never thought politicians were noble :D

Nick X the possible rarity in that.

watching the Border Security marathon on Lifestyle channel, I'm amazed at how dumb alot of people are getting into the country.

One classic now is the student going through quarrantine with two cards (she kept a spare in case she got busted) lol!

West Adelaide's clubrooms/gym/grandstand were affected by a fire over the long weekend - don't the Crows use Richmond Oval for their closed sessions?? I don't know how much damage it caused (although I do recall them saying it's about $200,000 damage but don't hold me to that) so will the Crows change ovals since it might be easy to get access to the closed sessions now (presumably, things might be demolished)?

Ok, just found the article:
http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,26636159-2682,00.html

Funnily enough, the Crows were actually going to be using the Richmond Oval yesterday but for various reasons didn't end up going - and as it turned out, if they had, it would have been a wasted trip.

Man, they just can't take a trick can they  Moved on from Norwood and now Richmond burns down. I wonder where they'll do their secret training from now on? They'll probably do it inside their new facility with the doors closed I guess.

Yeah, you're right, I wasn't thinking clearly. Very average of me to have said that and then completely forget about Westies. Really shitty thing to have happen to them

Is the SANFL helping them monetarily to rebuild it?

Well saved.

My favourite is how they can't comprehend what food actually means! I was on a flight into Sydney from San Francisco and the silly american girls sitting behind me were filling out the card and discussing the candy bars they had in their possession. According to them it wasn't 'food' so they didn't have to declare it. They couldn't comprehend when I told them to declare everything.

3 interesting onlookers at the Tsonga vs Djkovic match tonight. None other than Gary Ablett, Buddy Franklin and Andrew Mackie.:thumbsu:
