Australia has embarrassingly poor pay tv and internet service. Fox Sports does a good job offering live coverage but as an overall package Foxtel is a sad, pathetic joke. For the price we pay, the number and variety of channels offered is so far below what it should be it's not funny. People getting excited about "showtime comedy" and "showtime drama" being added shows how we've been starved of anything worthwhile. You pay a fraction of the price for many times the channels overseas.

Internet is even worse. We're paying $50-$90 a month, many customers living further out are paying well over $100, for slow download rates with -download limits-. This is unheard of in the US. Download limits, are you ****ing kidding me? A with a joke of a company like Telstra pulling the strings we're not going to improve to a decent standard any time soon. We are getting done over the counter even compared to certain third world countries.

Don't be overly grateful to Foxtel for slipping us a handful of extra movie channels as part of our $100+ package, they and our internet providers are keeping us in the dark ages and people need to be made aware of it.

I haven’t heard anything yet but was there any mention of the anti syphoning laws getting changed in the ‘Crawford Report’ that was released today?

Or will that announcement come once the government has had time to analyse it and make a comment on it in January?

And I agree with you Amer, pay TV and Internet usage in Australia is a joke.

Yep there sure is (depending on the department). In the first semester for statistics, I got about 40% for the assignments (weighted at 15% overall) and absolutely flunked the exam (truth be told it was an absolute **** of an exam) and walked out sure I wouldn't even get a supp. The rest of the class felt the same way, but come results time, pretty much everyone passed - I got exactly 50% much to my amazement.

By 3:30pm tomorrow, I will be finished uni forever (wish me luck :)).
Bet it feels good now mate!:thumbsu: Yer it seems most struggled, however we do need to get 45% in the exam to pass the course. I just want to see my marks now!

Crawford report was all about sports funding. Has absolutely nothing to do with FTA vs PayTV anti-syphoning laws.

Crawford Report was written for the Department of Health (which includes Sport), where Kate Ellis is the minister in charge.

The anti-syphoning report is being done for the Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, under Stephen Conroy.

Entirely different ministries within the government.

Oh ok. I thought it was all in the one report as i remember Sandy Robert and that stupid advert.

When does that one get released?

Once in third year Engineering I did an exam I thought was going to be easy - it was 3 questions long but after I finished the first I realised I was taking way too long. For the remainder of the exam I was a frenzied mess just trying to power through as much of the exam as possible before I ran out of time about halfway through the third question.

When I walked out a friend asked "so, which of the three questions did you do?" and I nearly cried.

Moral of the story: always read the front page, cos you might only have to do one of the three questions in the exam :p

Did exactly the same thing in my exam last week. Part A worth 40% you had to answer 4 out of 6 questions... So of course I did all 6. Luckily I did part B first so it didn't mess up my whole exam.

I'm not sure exactly. The discussion paper was released on 20th August. Submissions closed on 16th October.

The DBCDE website doesn't state when any decisions will be made.

Got into a school of ravenous barracuda yesterday on a charter boat, damn those buggers are fun :thumbsu: One of the people in our little group hooked onto a small one, around 30cm, and as she was winding it up a bloody monster about 1m long came along and bit it straight through the stomach and wouldn't let go, so she lifted both of them in. The big one wasn't even hooked, he just refused to let go of the other one, hahaha. Most uncanny thing I've ever seen in a boat :p

Am I the only one that finds the movie channels on Foxtel a complete waste of space. Once I got over the novelty of ad free movies, I think I could count on one hand the number of times I've actually sat down and watched a movie on any of the movie channels in the past 10-12 years (my DVD collection more than covers my movie fix).

Hence I don't have the movie channels on Foxtel.

See I like the movie channels, most days theres always a couple of good movies on to watch. Lifestyle Food is where its at though.

Serious? This show is so funny. – love it
Hopefully they have Bogans and a B grade celebrity version on it, like the UK version.

On lifestyle foods - the F word, Hell’s Kitchen with Ramsey and UK MasterChef are my favourites for what’s it worth. However Nigella Lawson is a gun chef.

But the best cooking show on TV is Top Chef on Arena with Padma Lakshmi. If you haven’t seen it, get into it. 8pm Monday nights on arena. :thumbsu:

that's what you get for turning your back on Australia, Guus

stay away, dont bring back a losing culture to Australia.
Go elsewhere, I beleive Argentina are getting a new manager. Maybe you can destroy them

True that. Great show. Loved the first and second series, then forgot it was on until recently (with another few series missed in between), so im in the process of downloading the other series.

I'm still on this holiday in Kingston and the lightning was going absolutely insane here earlier tonight. A lightning bolt struck a tree around 10km from where I was staying and started a massive fire, my mates and I were watching it on the second floor, ready to evacuate if it headed our way. Fortunately it didn't. We rang the CFS but the already knew about it.

I just checked out the CFS website and there's 50 fires or so going on in SA at the moment, fortunately the Kingston one is under control. Bloody frightening stuff anyway

The wind here is ridiculous, I'm wondering if this shack will hold together.

And you just know that FIFA wont do a thing about it.

The sport is backward in so many areas.

And what can they do now?

To reverse the results of the game would open a huge can of worms and set unbelievable precedence that will change the fabric of the sport. Overnight Ireland has applied for the game to be replayed; however, world football's ruling body seemed to indicate there could be little chance of granting that request.

The game is over and the umpire missed it. No one can seriously say the umpire cheated, knew he was going to do it and allowed the events to stand anyway. The umpire was positioned in an area of the pitch where his vision was impaired. The only thing and most logical outcome they (FIFA) will apply will be to suspend the umpire as it was an honest mistake that will be put down to human error.

Plus I don’t believe this makes him a cheat, well not a cheat like Diego Maradona and his divine intervention ‘hand of god’ goal. Thierry Henry has come out and admitted to using his hand. I think he did it as a reflex thing and as he has admitted it, not a cheat.

Start downloading the Top Chef: Las Vegas episodes – some good cooking.

Plus, are they really going to be making an Australian version of Come Dine with Me?
