Listened to this song for the first time in a long, long while and realized just how good it is when a band that identifies itself as a party band or less than serious releases a really heartfelt serious song.

Same with TV shows that identify as a comedy that have serious moments, [SCRUBS] for instance has some of the best serious/sad moments of any show I've ever seen.

Ridiculous. Let's take breaking bad, walking dead and game of thrones off. The shelves too. Target can suck a lemon
Haven't seen it but heard Target were told to take it off because of the really bad sexual violence stuff towards women in it. Ex sex workers were amongst those very disturbed by it . . Haven't seen those others you mention yet, but they wouldn't have that , would they ? As I have been told Walking Dead is good .......

Ex sex workers...ah the voice of morality!

This sums it up nicely:

Just an issue that annoys me. As someone mentioned (flawed genius I think) a month or so ago...a long term study was completed on violence in video games and there was no effect lasting psychological effect on the subjects.

Always reeks of some PTA group that has nothing better to do so they get all righteous about something minor. Parents at my high school got a book removed from the curriculum because it was deemed violent and graphic...it was a war novel for Christ sake.

Raise your children well and they can differentiate between what is right and what is wrong. I watched movies like terminator and robocop with my dad before I was in kindergarten, desensitised me if anything. Although I have been told by my mum that I would ask strangers if they were Sarah Connor...but I digress.

The GTA petition was signed by 40k people. A large number of which the e-signatures can't be verified as legitimate, and another large chunk shown to not even live in Australia.

Thats a ) bugger all of the population
and b ) mostly not even australians.

Can't be bothered checking the draft board but does anyone know how godees supporters went switching from a year of coincidentally spruiking McCartin's talent to suddenly favouring Petracca?
I'll be interested to see how they handle the inevitable day they delist Petracca and we select him as a Werribee fill in at Pick 69.

I'll probably be shot down hard for this but.....

Ok I've never played GTA but one Christmas a few years ago a younger cousin got it and was playing while all the kids watched. I watched about 5 minutes and in that time a hooker was dragged out of a car, punched several times and then shot in the face with a shotgun (Is my memory correct or exaggerating?).

There were kids ranging from 4 to 18 watching and I decided to put my breakfast beer down and asked them to turn it off.

Now I grew up on horror movies in the 80's so I don't mind a little Scanners head exploding but now that I'm a teacher I see and hear about kids in my class (primary school) watching movies like Hostel and Mamma and Insidious.

When I was kid and there was a fight at school we all gathered and watched including me so I'm not preaching but kids these days start fights so their friends can record it and during the fight chant 'stomp on his head'.

Earlier this week a boy in my class asked my why it's so easy to push girls around and when asked he thought it was ok to punch a girl in the face if she hits him first. I grew up being told 'under no circumstances do you hit a girl/lady'.

I know if kids are raised properly you don't get these issues but so many parents are failing and having access to images/games/movies like the one above isn't helping and I don't see why we need games where people are being killed so realistically.

Ok rant over and now I feel really old

My 2yr old bruiser of a son poses that question to me on a daily basis post his regular whack for his pushy 4yr old sister.

This is just it.

Parents aren't putting in the time and effort to instill into their kids the rights and wrongs.

My brother and I have played GTA, Call Of Duty, et al and not once have I thought about slaughtering a prostitute, hijacking a Ferrari, stealing an Aeroplane....

Me too Brett33, wouldn't change it for the world either and will do the same with my future kids one day

l used to think I was John Connor, I'd be trying to sleep and hear the neighbour's dog start barking and think "Oh Shit, it's happening".

Parental responsibility optional.

"All them other teams are shit"
And then there's this shit:

http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/pa...-kids-greens-say/story-fnet08ui-1227141319300

This woman is a sitting member of Parliament.

It's beyond a joke.
Dr Carr-Gregg puts it back into perspective with his last quote.

But Dr Carr-Gregg said parents should not start fretting if their son wants a remote control car or their daughter wants a doll.

“These gender differences are hard wired, and while I’m sure socialisation plays a role, to argue that toys in any way relate to domestic violence is, I think, too far a stretch,” he said.

“It’s a nail in the coffin of common sense.”

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Friendship hanging by a thread :)

I haven't played GTA since it first came out on PS2 but I would spend hours snipping people from a distance, killing soldiers and FBI agents...it was fun. If you are raised correctly you know it's just a game. I've been told if you rob a female clothes owner you get less money compared to if you rob a male gun shop owner...therefore gamers rob the males more often. Do we start complaining about gender equality then?

My nephew (6yr) came home a few months ago and complained that a girl kept punching him in class. I told him to tell her you didn't like and if she continues he should bring it up with the teacher. It went on a bit longer and nothing was done. One day after she kicked him he pushed her away. She ran off crying and the teacher called my sister and her husband in after the girls parents complained. They copped a big spiel about boys hitting girls and that it needs to stop now otherwise it could continue later in life. Nothing was said to the little girl. Apparently she now gloats that she can do whatever she wants to boys and they can't do anything back. Whereas my little cousin is likely to never fight back just in case he gets told off again.

Parenting and raising kids correctly outweighs violent video games. Kids shouldn't be playing them so young and you did the right thing in turning it off. The one playing it should only do it with kids his age. When I stayed at my nans house I was only allowed to watch south park by myself in a different room because my little cousin would repeat it all.

Bloody hell Jlind78 lift your teaching game otherwise our youth are stuffed ;)

I love it when they roll out Carr-Gregg.

The frequency with which he seems to be quoted on stuff like this, you'd think Australia has just the one early-years behavioural psychologist.
There are "go to guys" for every issue.

It's the same when John Bertrand is plucked from the clouds everytime an Australian wins something that we've never won before.

Of course there are.

Phil Cleary for domestic violence against women. Les Twentyman for youth issues in the western suburbs. Carr-Gregg for anything relating to adolescent psychology. The problem is they've all come out and said the same thing so many times they barely know how to distinguish between differing issues anymore.

Brilliant! I remember sleeping half way down my bed for weeks after watching Childs play. I would put my micky stuffed toy in my position so if Chucky came he would stab micky and not me. With that diversion I'd have enough time to catch chucky off guard and escape.

Agreed. I'll be doing the same with my kids.
