The new version of GTA V has been pulled from the shelves.

Pussification continues.
So not just Target?

Pfft. OzGameShop for deh win.
Ridiculous. Let's take breaking bad, walking dead and game of thrones off. The shelves too. Target can suck a lemon
Haven't seen it but heard Target were told to take it off because of the really bad sexual violence stuff towards women in it. Ex sex workers were amongst those very disturbed by it . . Haven't seen those others you mention yet, but they wouldn't have that , would they ? As I have been told Walking Dead is good .......
Ok Thanks Brett33 :) I really was commenting on something that I know very little about :$ Only heard comments on the radio yesterday , and jumped into the convo without checking all the facts :(Just thought the comment re "exsex workers" meant that it was terrible As you say ..... "the voice of morality " ........ Lesson learned for the day . To know what I am talking about :)
Just an issue that annoys me. As someone mentioned (flawed genius I think) a month or so ago...a long term study was completed on violence in video games and there was no effect lasting psychological effect on the subjects.

Always reeks of some PTA group that has nothing better to do so they get all righteous about something minor. Parents at my high school got a book removed from the curriculum because it was deemed violent and graphic...it was a war novel for Christ sake.

Raise your children well and they can differentiate between what is right and what is wrong. I watched movies like terminator and robocop with my dad before I was in kindergarten, desensitised me if anything. Although I have been told by my mum that I would ask strangers if they were Sarah Connor...but I digress.
The GTA petition was signed by 40k people. A large number of which the e-signatures can't be verified as legitimate, and another large chunk shown to not even live in Australia.

Thats a ) bugger all of the population
and b ) mostly not even australians.
And the people strike back - lol

Friendship hanging by a thread :)

I haven't played GTA since it first came out on PS2 but I would spend hours snipping people from a distance, killing soldiers and FBI agents...it was fun. If you are raised correctly you know it's just a game. I've been told if you rob a female clothes owner you get less money compared to if you rob a male gun shop owner...therefore gamers rob the males more often. Do we start complaining about gender equality then?

My nephew (6yr) came home a few months ago and complained that a girl kept punching him in class. I told him to tell her you didn't like and if she continues he should bring it up with the teacher. It went on a bit longer and nothing was done. One day after she kicked him he pushed her away. She ran off crying and the teacher called my sister and her husband in after the girls parents complained. They copped a big spiel about boys hitting girls and that it needs to stop now otherwise it could continue later in life. Nothing was said to the little girl. Apparently she now gloats that she can do whatever she wants to boys and they can't do anything back. Whereas my little cousin is likely to never fight back just in case he gets told off again.

Parenting and raising kids correctly outweighs violent video games. Kids shouldn't be playing them so young and you did the right thing in turning it off. The one playing it should only do it with kids his age. When I stayed at my nans house I was only allowed to watch south park by myself in a different room because my little cousin would repeat it all.

Bloody hell Jlind78 lift your teaching game otherwise our youth are stuffed ;)
I'm not an advocate for 'banning' all things violent and of course parenting is the major issue here. I'm just wondering if we're able to enjoy games without so much misogynistic content.

People comparing Terminator to the gore/porn that comes out today maybe haven't seen SAW?Hostel type movies. Terminator and Robocop are obviously movies but some of these 'new' horrors are so realistic it's almost like watching a documentary.

Have seen them.

I think we should also ban the news because of the reporting on some of the absolute atrocities that are occurring around the globe (this isn't directed at you jlind).

TBH I don't know where I stand. It's a grey area and probably having 2 sons 3 and 5 makes me more aware of the dangers.

I love a good sniper game and have at least a hundred horror DVD's. Stephen King is my fav author.

If the news showed actual footage of people having their heads cut off yeah I'd have a problem with it.

Last year a kid showed me a 2 min video on their phone. I literally felt sick after it. Footage of actual plane crashes, CCTV footage of people being hit by cars, a guy having his head cut off with a saw, a police car camera showing a huge guy literally killing an officer with punches to the head. Then the kid goes, cool huh?

I'm not blaming GTA or anything really but kids have access to so much violence and free redtube these days that their brains see violence/sex/women differently.

I looked all of that sort of stuff up as a kid, kids are naturally inquisitive.

I just think too much of the blame goes to outside influences when it's the parents themselves who are doing a shit job of raising their children to become well-adjusted individuals.

As a teacher I can Testify to that brother. Some of the stuff parents do to stuff up their kids it's as if they're trying to do a bad job.

if Skye won definitely...i mean...yeah who watches that crap?! :drunk:
I watched it. But it is crappola.

I suddenly want to watch the first series of Underbelly again.

I'm spewing that KFC already ended its double burger promo ... damnit.
I had one. It was amazing.

I promptly ran an ultra marathon to make sure I didn't let the 2.5 kilos of saturated fat settle.

"All them other teams are shit"
Of course there are.

Phil Cleary for domestic violence against women. Les Twentyman for youth issues in the western suburbs. Carr-Gregg for anything relating to adolescent psychology. The problem is they've all come out and said the same thing so many times they barely know how to distinguish between differing issues anymore.
They are also trotted out when there is even the most tenuous link to their area of expertise, sometimes they are even making an opposing point to the outrage we are supposed to be feeling from the story, or at least, not completely agreeing.

I'll probably be shot down hard for this but.....

Ok I've never played GTA but one Christmas a few years ago a younger cousin got it and was playing while all the kids watched. I watched about 5 minutes and in that time a hooker was dragged out of a car, punched several times and then shot in the face with a shotgun (Is my memory correct or exaggerating?).

There were kids ranging from 4 to 18 watching and I decided to put my breakfast beer down and asked them to turn it off.

Now I grew up on horror movies in the 80's so I don't mind a little Scanners head exploding but now that I'm a teacher I see and hear about kids in my class (primary school) watching movies like Hostel and Mamma and Insidious.

When I was kid and there was a fight at school we all gathered and watched including me so I'm not preaching but kids these days start fights so their friends can record it and during the fight chant 'stomp on his head'.

Earlier this week a boy in my class asked my why it's so easy to push girls around and when asked he thought it was ok to punch a girl in the face if she hits him first. I grew up being told 'under no circumstances do you hit a girl/lady'.

I know if kids are raised properly you don't get these issues but so many parents are failing and having access to images/games/movies like the one above isn't helping and I don't see why we need games where people are being killed so realistically.

Ok rant over and now I feel really old

On the gaming:
My 19yo daughter plays it. Loves it. And surprisingly enough doesn't feel like shooting people or stealing cars.
My 17 yo daughter has seen it and shows absolutely no interest. She is too busy with Halo and Call of Duty and the like.
My 14yo daughter wants to see/play it, but will only be exposed to Restricted stuff for 18yo's at roughly the same age I was........ which is next year.

None of them are violent. The sensibly are able to separate the gaming from real life.

On the studies:
Not just recently. Many MANY studies over the years have shown the link to be a crock, with most that show a link between the gaming and real world violence to have used skewed evidence or a preset agenda.

On the sexism:
MY 14yo continually speaks of a shitty girl at her school who is continually harassing, punching, slapping, kicking boys at the school. Not one damn thing is done about it. Funnily enough, my daughter has been told off for pointing out the difference that would happen if a boy did the same at the school to a girl. That's funny because my wife overheard the telling off - they won't make THAT mistake again!

I'm not the biggest fan of take-away (mainly because I'm a stinge and there is none around my area) but that double with a hashbrown was majestic
