How the hell do Man U keep scoring undeserved late goals every damn time, their club is more generic than City and Chelsea now, with them buying titles.
I grew up watching United and have been a fan since Gordon Strachan and Bryan Robson were running around for them, Liverpool were the greatest club in England and Sir Alex Ferguson was still north of the border working his magic with Aberdeen. United have been a big club for a long, long time and the basis for their current overall strength is not on the back of oil money, but on the back of success built and paid for by the club and its supporters. That they have been able to harness that during a period in which ridiculous amounts of money have been pumped into the game is a clear case of business acumen and making hay at the right time. Yes, United have a truck load of debt thanks to the Glazers using the club to pay off their takeover, but the business was always capable of supporting itself and growing without the input from oligarchs, sheiks and bankers. To say that this club is more generic than the blue crew is to thumb your nose at history and fact.

People may get all whiny about United scoring undeserved late equalizers in 'Fergie Time' but if you are still pushing hard in the 90th minute you deserve whatever success you may have in that period. If more teams showed more belief and fight perhaps they too would pinch equalizers and winners at the depth, instead of whining about it. United are playing some average football at the minute and folk like to kick them when they are down, no problem there. But if their teams cant close out a game when leading in injury time perhaps they should be looking at what they are doing and not at some imaginary influence on the game.

We will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Never suggested imaginery, the fact is simply that Man U, City, Chelsea and to lesser degrees Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool have vast economic resources compared to the rest of the EPL. Being pissed off this morning was that the Hammers deserved the victory and massively outplayed Man U and then score a goal through luck and a bit of skill, fair enough on the late winners, doesn't mean it was deserved at all sometimes.

Generic in the sense that its a club that all the popular and generic people tend to follow worldwide rather than outright loyalty to the club. Thankfully most of these people are now moving to City and Chelsea and subsequently laying the boot into Man U. I haven't layed my boot into them, but just disappointed that we got a bit of unfair result (football is not afl and luck and refreeing has much more of an impact).

What is the EPL equivalent of North?
I like to think something like West Ham (bias aside). That's why l picked West Ham because they reminded me a bit of North Melbourne in that they have a number of underrated players, don't always have the money or gloss, but work hard for each other and fight to the very end (usually anyway), honest battlers.

The league is far too skewed to the big clubs as K4E alludes to for a clear direct comparison. But a team that performs consistently well with a shorter cut cloth and who have won things in the last 50 years are Everton. IMO probably the best comparison available.

In the scheme of things they have been reasonably well performed for a long period of time. In fact, I think they are the club with most seasons in the top flight in England.
Beating out Aston by 8 years, indeed.

Anyone particularly interested in Mitchell Duke's foray overseas? I love the JLeague so any excuse to watch it with a positively biased perspective is fine by me.

I know less then nothing about the EPL, but I have a soft spot for Crystal Palace because Mile Jedinak is both their skipper and the Australian skipper and he plays the round ball game a lot like Aussie Rules. Hard and tough and has a bit of a look in his eye like Luke Hodge does and the great man Glenn Archer had. If he played our game I reckon he would be an in and under tough as nails midfielder.

I also like the romance of club names such as Sheffield Wednesday, Queens Park Rangers, West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion, which is not a valid reason for supporting any club really.

Chelsea colours the closest to North - as someone who knows very little about EPL I'm drawn to Chelsea purely on the colours (doesn't hurt that they're rather successful either).
I have always wondered why no one ever really pushed the colour association with Aussie Rules

ie Blue and White and Greeks.

This is why I chose Chelsea as my team when I was about 11 or 12. Everyone at my school was either a Man U, Liverpool or Arsenal supporter so I wanted to be an individual. Luckily at the time Chelsea were just getting started in the 'winning trophies' business. :)

That's how you do with picking EPL sides, they have got to have a bit of personality.
