Spot on.

We're in the helicopter parent super routine era unfortunately. Everytime the wife and I hang around friends like that they sap the absolute energy out of us, make every excuse under the sun not to live life, and they tend to be the most flustered and depressed of all. Try to avoid them at every opportunity

My 6 yr old and I come home at 2am after a post work/school fishing session on the odd week day regularly. He may get a day off the next day depending on the time, i get through the work day with a couple of coffees, and the next day he gets to tell his friends how many fish he caught. His bed time also gets extended to 11pm on Thursdays because he loves staying up with us whilst watching the footy.

My daughter's usually in bed around 9/10pm and wakes up around 8/9am, friends can't understand how we manage to sleep in past 6am. The only thing I'll say about routines is when they work in your favour they're worth it - e.g. MIL when she looks after our one year old will often ignore our requests to give her a nap at certain times during the day, and when that happens she doesn't go to sleep until 11/midnight which is a nightmare. Obviously will change when she's a bit older.

I don't think I'll mind the odd late night, but also like the idea of not setting in an expectation or pattern of behaviour of staying up too late as it's nice having time after they've gone to bed where we don't have to parent!

It's understandable needing a bit of routine to afford a break when they're between 1-2. But the amount of helicopters with 5+ yr olds who still treat them like babies is astounding. Their kids tend to act the most immature and emotional in the group too.

Last week, we took our Year 4's on their first school camping experience. An overnighter an hour down the road. Held the parent information session and the first question I got at the end was "How do I get in touch with you to see if my child is ok." I responded with "If you don't get a call from us, you know your child is ok". The principal added to this that they don't call the school up during the day to see if their child has settled in ok, so why would you need todo that for camp?

At the same time, these parents are the same ones that send their kids with a half a chemist full of "Just in Case" medication to drop off at the school without any parent supervision. Yes, that's right, they need to check their darling has settled in at camp safely but are happy to leave them unsupervised with a bag full of drugs that could put an elephant to sleep if it consumed them all.

Bought a swanky pair of noise-cancelling headphones 12 months ago. Sound is now only playing out of one side. Incredibly frustrating.

But then I turn the thing on and off again, and it says "Power on"... OUT OF BOTH EARS

You are like the little shits won't be able to talk while they are hand stitching all the tshirts I am making to sell overseas, so take a chill pill mum

I remember grade 5 footy training finished at 5:30

My mum forgot it was on and didn't get me until she realised I wasn't at dinner , got there like 7 and she was angry at me for being annoyed about it.

she wasn't calling to check on me at a camp 😂

A beautiful 30 degrees on the Murray , looking forward to the footy tomorrow
Was a great day with Cressas Corowa winning by 69 points and Kaelan Bradke former swans ressies was dominant up forward and Tyler Roos is good as well
Released the shackles a bit in the warm weather and they Carltons were well chilled and a bit sluggish this morning

Been fishing?

I’ve been feeling quite aloof since my dog died and an altercation with the muppet who told me to get over my dog dying and move on. Wish we were able to have a free hit at trolls sometimes in person without punishment

Taken a long time (nearly a year) but have finally started coming to terms with the end of my fencing career in a good way and no longer feeling ashamed, angry and disgusted that I didn't qualify for the Olympics or that my last seasons results were not that good.

Even in hindsight my results at internationals were not that bad (Outside of my world cup, which was as an amateur against professionals).

Internationals
Oceanics Individuals - 6th out of 78 competitors
Oceanics Teams - Bronze medal representing Australia
World Cup Individuals - 232 out of 270
World Cup Teams - 28th out of 40.
Grand Prix Individuals - 142 of 280 (Was final Olympic Qualifying event).

Best results within Australia
National Individuals - 12th
National Teams - 3rd
State Champion - Open Individual, Open Teams, B-Grade, Finished 2022 season ranked 1st in Victoria.
Arnold Classic - 2nd, 3rd
Riverina Championships - Winner (Semi national competition)

Have actually decided to get one of my Australian Jackets professionally framed with a few of my medals from my career (Thinking national medals, oceanics, two arnolds and state champion).

You have every right to be proud of your achievements, mate. And yes, 100% get that jacket framed and hung up.

I see your wealth of achievements and raise you a 2nd place overall in the 2012 Casey Cardinia Cycling Club Championships, a third place in the 2000 Hampton Park Secondary College Cross Country and 3 AMF Dandenong Sunday night league bowling championships.
😂😂😂

In all seriousness, an incredible set of achievements that anyone would and should be proud of.

I hate the way this club impacts my mood. I promised myself after last years GF that I would care less, dedicate less of my time towards the club and have failed miserably. God help anyone, student or colleague, that decides to piss me off this week.

Do you want me to piss you off now to get it over with ? Could make some teacher jokes? :p
