I don't have the meat allergy but I have anaphylaxis to tick bites and it seems to be becoming a really common thing now. I don't even take it as seriously as I should really.

Yeah I'm with you. Too much negative media on it so far in terms of resources/facilities etc. and can't shake the fear that something bad may happen.

I'm guessing you got that after being bitten?

Yep. After a trip to the emergency room, my newly-found immunologist explained that you have to get bitten once (at which time you don't have any side-effects of having been bitten) and the tick leaves some kind of protein in your system which stays dormant almost. That lays there until you get bitten again (however many months or years later) by another tick and when that protein gets into your system the second time, in some crazy chemical reaction it causes anaphylaxis to occur - if you have that predisposition to anaphylactic reactions to tick bites that is; my mum has been bitten by ticks dozens of times and she's never had a single thing come of it.

Pretty fascinating/scary thing to enter my life.
