Unfortunately for ND he was put up against some other very deserving people. Paris Aristotle has spent decades being a "refugee do gooder", helping traumatized children & families settle in Australia. From very humble beginnings as a 1 man "do gooder" he now has hundreds of people working around this Nation giving people hope, support and confidence that they can start a new life away from war, terror and unrest. They can contribute to our society in a positive way and reduces the anxieties of leaving your whole life, family, friends, home etc behind to start fresh.

No offence to ND, the work he has been doing recently has been sensational & he is fully deserving of such an honor too, however his activism doesn't really hold a candle to the depth & breadth of work some of the other nominees have achieved. As I said, nothing against ND, he's inspirational and deserves all the praise he gets - However I can certainly see where a "refugee do gooder" who's put in the work and dedication that Paris has might just trump him for such an award.

I'm going to assume you mean Waleed or Paris... In any case, IMO that's some racially charged terminology which I don't think is accurate nor fair. Would you call me a "terrorist lover" (being a white male with Irish heritage, Middle class, accountant)? Because I agree with a lot that Paris & Waleed say and believe.

I have Irish heritage as well mate. It's Aly, can't stand the bloke. Yes that guy has done heaps for refugees, good on him for looking after deserving ones. The trouble is the one's that are deserving get put in the same lot as the illegal ones.

I was more replying based on my dislike of the use of remarks such as "terrorist lover" or "refugee do gooder". To me they are disrespectful to those who simply have an opinion you dislike however could be seen to be loaded with the pretence of race being an issue &/or negative identifying feature.

I'm going to have to disagree with this.
Personally, I don't buy the argument that comments people make create division. If that were the case we must have had a very fragile society to begin with, and I don't believe that is the case. In fact I would argue the contrary, allowing people to speak their mind is a good thing. Free speech includes the freedom to offend. Yes, it means people might say things that we don't like occasionally, but it's far better than the alternative IMO.
