Heading towards the deadline, basketball boards always seemed to be overwhelmed by random trade proposals. Keeping them in 1 thread is a way of controlling them. Post them, and we all poo-poo them.

Anyway, one trade I like that was posted on DB.com was Baron and Camby for Kidd.

Why for Dallas: They get the penetrating guard they need, and get a quality center who blocks and rebounds like nobody else on our roster. better defender than most too.

Why for LAC: Cap relief. They can get out from Baron's deal now and build around Thornton, Gordon and Kaman. We'd throw in Bass as a sweetener if needed

To ATL: Bogut
To MIL: Marvin Williams, Zaza, Pick

Why ATL: Hawks finally get a decent center and is able to move Horford to his more preferred position of PF.

Why MIL: Bogut hasn't lived up to the hype, gets injured all too often and I thinking the Bucks are regreting overpaying him on that contract extension last year. Its a chance to get a decent return while his value is still kind of high.

Im not sure that one satisfies the trade rules.

Williams is making 4 mil this year? Zaza about 4 aswell? Bogut is on about 12 so fill is needed...although Bogut is a BYC player (which means his contract trade value is half of it's actual worth) which means Mil might have to supply some filler.

I dont know why they take Williams unless they were moving RJ

Horrible on a number of levels. Bogut is nearly impossible to trade due to his new extension so it's out on a practical level. As far as a personal move it's great for Atlanta but the Bucks have RJ, Moute, and our most recent lottery pick Joe Alexander at SF.

Makes sense but doesn't that mean that the Clips have to admit they screwed teh pooch just a few months ago? Nobody in the NBA admits to a **** up that quickly.

OK time to shoot me down.
Richard Jefferson for Raef and Webster.
Bucks get an expiring to clear some of our bloated roster and a guy with good size at the 2 who could still improve a bit.
Blazers get the scorer at SF they seem to want.

Ahh that's a good one, for the reasons you stated.

If you need me to wing it rather than shoot it down, Raef's deal is a super expiring, because insurance is covering 90% of it (I have NFI why this is) so not only can a team take it to reduce salary in future years, they essentially pay nothing this year.

So maybe the Blazers will angle for someone better than RJ (Marion? Wallace? Maggette?). If this gets done, it will be 2 mins before the deadline when the Blazers know they cant do any better

Maggette isn't better, he's an idiot on a very long contract. But yeah I'm preying for this deal so there's a good chance they could get better. Personally I don't think the Blazers need a guy who has to have the ball in his hands, they should be after Battier to hit open threes and defend the best guy to lighten Roy's load.

if you guys want expirings, will you move Redd aswell?

By the way, Mavs fans are 90-10 in favour of a Kidd or Baron/Camby deal. I'd love it.

If the Clips had any fans, Id ask them about it.

No way the clips do that trade imo - their GM is fairly newish, and he wouldn't want to admit such a colossal mistake.

Have been trying to work a trade that sends Earl Watson to Orlando, but they just don't have the pieces. The only way I can work it is if Oklahoma take back Brian Cook and I can't see why they would do that.

Cook and Bogans are both expiring>>> Watson to Orlando.

OK save money, Orlando gets their PG.

Their owner has gone on a spending spree after years of frugality, and they are still at the bottom of the league. Id imagine he wont tolerate this.

he can sugarcoat it by saying they did it for Kidd's PG mentality rather than saving money.

I know Bogans is, but I think Cook still has a year left.

Otherwise that's a no-brainer.

According to ESPN's trade machine, Cook expires this year

The beauty of that trade for the Magic is that they get Nelson back next year, and Watson becomes a useful expiring deal to dangle for other parts.

Yeah I was on RealGM's trade checker, which has Cook expiring in 2010 along with Watson.

Funky, in your OP, there's no reason for the Clips to include Camby. Davis is still a very talented player in the right system, so although you're taking money back, you're also improving talent. Baron + contracts for Kidd makes more sense to me.

I've had a few trades in mind recently, but have gone completely blank.

hey we're taking on a fat, injured chucker with a huge long term deal and we're giving up a HOF, walking triple double machine, pass first PG with a short contract. They should throw in Camby.

;)

Here's one that makes a heap of sense to me:

Houston:
Trades: Ron Artest (8.5M expiring), Jackie Butler (2.5M expiring), Carl Landry (3M for 3 years) Luther Head (2.0M RFA)
Receives: Rasheed Wallace (13.7M expiring)

Detroit:
Trades: Rasheed Wallace (13.7M expiring)
Receives: Anthony Parker (4.5M expiring) Joey Graham (2.5 RFA) Carl Landry (3M for 3 years) Luther Head (2.0M RFA)

Toronto:
Trades: Anthony Parker (4.5M expiring) Joey Graham (2.5M RFA)
Receives: Ron Artest (8.5M expiring)

Which team says no to that? Pistons get a couple of young prospects, Toronto finally get some talent and toughness on the perimeter, and Houston get a scary-good starting line-up as well as a 4 that actually compliments Yao really well.

Only thing is, Pistons would need to clear some roster space first.

I love it from Houston's perspective.

I don't know if Toronto would. They'd be pretty aware Artest would bolt next year (well...we shouldnt assume with Ron), so it's a salary dump.

As for the Pistons, I am sure they don't do it. Firstly, Rasheed is the heart of that team. Secondly, I dont think Dumars is ready to wave the white flag. Thirdly, Landry has a small deal, but it's still some guaranteed money and I think they'd rather have Sheed's entire salary spot at the end of the year

All the other guys are expirings as well.

They need to convince Bosh to stay, and Artest might help them do that. He's still a "big name" around the NBA community.

They're clearly not going anywhere, and all indications are that they're going to let 'Sheed walk. Why not get something in return? Maybe Houston throw in a 1st or something, but the idea's the same.

To ATL: Bogut
To MIL: Marvin Williams, Zaza, Pick

Marvin is many things, and one of them is still improving. We've taken the shit for drafting him so I want to keep him. When you see him sink jumpers all over the court one game and then attack the rim the next game he can be a very good scorer if he did both at the same time rather than settling on one (most often the jumper).

Plus, the Hawks can't afford a big money center. They've spent big on their 1, 2, 3 and Horford will demand big bucks.

Oh, and any concerns about matching salaries the Hawks still have one Speedy Claxton on $6m for this year and maybe next year. It's hard to remember when we signed him to $30m over 5 and he has played about 2 games.

DB.com have pretty good sources and scoops, and are suggesting a Amare for Aldridge/LaFrentz deal is in the works.

I LOVE this for Phoenix.

1. They rid themselves of STAT(PADDER)'s bull shit.

2. They solve their spacing issues. It's pointless running the Nash/STAT(PADDER) pick and roll when Amare roll's right into Shaq's man who has come over on help D. With LMA, Nash could revive the Nash/Dirk pick and pop where LMA can flare out to the elbows or baseline for the open J, something LMA is very comfortable with. IMO the Suns become very dangerous again with LMA patroling the elbows and baselines and Shaq donw low. There is no jurisdictional disharmony, like there is now with STAT(PADDER).

This also means that 7SOL is dead and buried. They exchange a rim rattler for player who lives between the foul lines.

And while having 2 35 year olds and a 24 year old seems a mismatch between youth and experience, I think LMA has basically reached his ceiling as a player, but with lots more of it to come.

For Portland, well I dont know really. Maybe they want another 'star'. A more aggressive scorer.

I don't see Portland doing it - they'd basically be admitting that Greg Oden will never be a go-to guy offensively, plus they'd be blowing their FA monies.

Methinks this "rumour" was floated by Phx.
